Chapter 13
I froze in my tracks, not quite sure what to do.
“Go answer the door, silly.” Eliza said, urging me that way. My stomach was in knots, and I can honestly say I’ve never been more nervous. I came up to the door and plastered a smile on my face. I took a deep breath before opening the door to see an ever-so-handsome looking Niall.
“Hi.” Niall said, his eye traveling up and down my body when he saw me.
“Hey.” I said back.
“You look beautiful, Torre.” he said, still standing in the hallway.
“Thank you very much. You look very handsome.” I said, motioning for him to come in.
“Thank you. Are you ready to go?” he asked politely.
“Yeah, just let me grab my purse.” I grabbed my purse from the hook by the door, and turned back to see him staring intently at me.I blushed under his heavy gaze, and his face broke into a smile.
“You’re cute when you blush.” he said, and I let out a slight giggle. What was happening to me? I’ve always been a really serious, level-headed person, and here I am, Niall giving me one little compliment, and giggling like a giddy school girl. Keep your head on straight and don’t become too attached. I subconsciously reminded myself. I closed the door to the apartment behind me, giving a sigh of relief that Eliza never made an appearance. She had been threatening to go and introduce herself all day, but I think I always knew she was kidding, although it would be something she would do.
“I’m really excited for tonight.” I said, trying to make conversation while we were walking down the hallway.
“Me too. I’ve got a nice evening planned for us. Well, at least I think it’s nice.” he said.
“I’m sure it’s more than nice, Niall. What exactly are we doing?” I questioned, surprised that on my first date ever I wasn’t a nervous, stuttering mess.
“That would ruin the surprise, wouldn’t it.” he smirked.
“Oh.” I said.
“Don’t worry. I don’t know you very well, but I’m sure you’ll love it.” he said, and I smiled at him. He just had a natural charm about him. As we exited the apartment building, I was surprised to see not a black, fancy car that all celebrities seemed to drive, but an older convertible, straight out of a Hollywood movie.
“Wow, nice car.” I blurted out, before I could think out my words.
“Thanks. It’s my favorite car I own. I thought this one would be fun to drive us around in.”
“Absolutely.” you agreed with him. I reached to the door handle, when I felt Niall’s hand stop mine.
“I’ve got it.” he said and opened the door for me, holding my hand while I stepped into the car. Gosh, Eliza even told me to let him open the door and here I am already messing the first thing up. The rest of the night should be interesting. Niall hopped into the car beside you and started driving.
“So, the first thing on our list tonight is dinner. Do you like Italian food?” he asked sweetly. Got that one right, Italian is my favorite.
“Yeah, it’s my favorite, actually.” I said.
“Great! Well this is my favorite Italian restaurant in LA. I always come here at least once when we’re in town. I’m sure you know about my love for food. The fans seem to think my stomach is never ending or something.” he laughed out. Ooohh his laugh was adorable. No, Victoria. Don’t get too invested.
“Actually I didn’t know that.” I laughed. “To be honest, I really don’t know that much about you. I listen to your music, and know a lot of the basic facts, but have never really learned that much about you boys.” I admitted. I’m sure he already knew I wasn’t a hardcore fan by the way I was acting, but I figured it would be better to just tell him up front.
“Well, there’s not really much to know. We’re just five normal guys. I think that’s what people forget.” he explained as he continued to drive to the restaurant. “That’s why it’s so hard. Like, people don’t realize that we’re just, like people. Like, we’re no different from anybody else, you know.” He looked at me intently.
“Um, well actually I wouldn’t know, because I’m not famous. But I think I know what you’re getting at.” I joked and Niall chuckled to himself. Eliza was be proud of me---she said joking kept guys interested.
“Sorry. I, um, forget who I’m talking to sometimes. All people are the same to me, I guess.”
“I get it. To be honest, I don’t know how you deal with it. All the fans, people’s judgement, it all just seems to be a lot to handle.”
“Yeah. It is. It just takes some getting used to, I guess. You learn how to handle it.” We then pulled up to a very fancy-looking Italian restaurant that I never would be able to afford. “We’re here.” he said.
“Wow. This looks like a nice place.” I said.
“It’s not as nice as it looks. The outside just makes it look like that.” he said, making me question what the inside looked like and what his version of “nice” was. “Don’t jump out of the car on me. I’ll come around and get you.” he said and I blushed at my earlier mistake, but he just shot me a smile. Well, at least he thought it was cute. He came around and opened the door for me, helping me out and we walked to the restaurant. There were only a couple paparazzi and they snapped a couple of shots of us walking in. I expected there to be some photos of us together, but it still made me uncomfortable.
We were seated in a table near the front, which seemed strange to me since it was really crowded, but oh well. The restaurant would probably get publicity for us being there, so might as well seat us in the front.
Our waiter came over and took our order. I ordered a plate of chicken alfredo and Niall ordered chicken parmesan. We talked while we waited for our food. He asked me about my family, school, some other basic things when it comes to getting to know someone. I asked how tour-life was, what it was like to be in the biggest boy-band on the planet, you know, just basic things when it comes to meeting a celebrity. It all seemed to go really well, though. Niall was so carefree and kind. Just really lighthearted. He was funny too.
After the waiter brought us our bill, Niall paid and we left the restaurant to get back in the car. “So where are we going now?’ I asked.
“Well, I figured we could drive down to the beach, put the top down on the car and cruise.” Niall said charismatically. Gosh, he was just so cute.
“Yeah, that sounds like fun!” I giggled excitedly.
“Sounds like a plan, then. But first, I think we should pick up some ice cream to eat while we cruise. How does that sound?” Niall let out a little giggle, like he knew he was practically melting my heart.
“Perfect! Ice cream is my weakness!” I said, a huge smile taking over my face.
“Good. Let’s do it then.” he said. He drove to a local ice cream shop right on the boardwalk. We both went in and ordered an ice cream sundae to go. When we got back into the car, Niall put the top of the convertible down. The weather was perfect for this. It was a nice, April evening. The night sky was clear and the stars shone brightly in the sky above you. It was a beautiful sight. And driving along the beach made it even more romantic. I couldn’t imagine anything better. No wonder all the girls were in love with Niall. He was perfect. After a bit of driving, Niall pulled into a parking lot right on the beach and parked. We sat talking and eating your ice cream while looking at the stars and listen to the waves roll into the shore. It was like a scene out of a movie.
“It’s so nice and quiet out here. I hardly get any time alone.” Niall said to me as we sat together.
“Yeah, I’m sure it must be draining, always having to act happy for fans and stuff. And being photographed and followed everywhere you go.”
“Yeah, well you see what happened the other day.” he chuckled, remembering the first time we met. “But you just get used to it. It’s nice that I can have times like these, with you, that it’s not too overwhelming.” We both sat in a comfortable silence, the both of us just taking in the scene around us.
“It really is beautiful out here.” I said.
“Not as beautiful as you, though.” Niall said.
“Wow. Nice line there Horan.” I laughed.
“It’s true, though. You really are beautiful, inside and out.” He said and it melted my heart. But right after he said it, his face changed and his mood shifted. I could tell something was wrong.
“Is everything okay?” you questioned him. He looked up and his ocean colored eyes met mine. A smile returned to his face.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine.” he said, and he seemed okay again. You guys talked a little while longer, and you actually learned a lot more about Niall. You left the beach and Niall headed back to your apartment complex. He walked you in and stopped outside your door. If you knew Eliza, she would have her ear pressed against the door, listening to every word you said.
“Well, Torre, I had a great time tonight.” he said a bit awkwardly.
“Yeah, I did too Niall.” I said equally as awkward.
“Well, goodnight Torre. I’ll talk to you soon.” He questioned.
“Yes, definitely.” I said. Niall went in for a hug, and when he let me go, he kissed my hand sweetly. He was so charming. He departed down the hallway with one more. “Goodnight.”
