Chapter 7 Harvested
"He was a humble farmer. Until a drought ravaged his land. Now he's found a new crop, human organs! He is... The Harvester."
The black endless void of the rift pulsated within SCP headquarters. Black goo dripped from the hole and landed on the ground, soaking into the earth.
A scientist in a hazmat suit collected the goo in a test tube. He looked into the rift and felt as if something was staring back at him. Something ancient and of immeasurable power.
Agent Jay watched from a window at a safe distance.
"So, the Red King, some sort of evil black goo, and a family of 12 kids." Jay said to himself. "And somehow they all relate to this rift in space and time."
"11 sir." One of the scientists corrected Jay. "The Louds have 11 kids."
"Oh yeah, 11 kids my bad." Jay said.
"I thought it was 22." Another scientist called out.
"DAMN!" Jay said. "If they had 22 kids, then Mr. Loud really needs to learn to keep it in his pants. Or use some protection."
...
Lynn Loud Jr. Had woken up the next morning. Last night was super creepy. She still didn't quite understand what had happened that night. Something was in Lori and Leni's room last night. Something horrifying.
Lynn wasn't even sure it was real, she hoped it was just a dream. But at least it was over now.
"Good morning!" Lynn said with a smile, as she greeted her siblings.
"You seem happy." Lincoln said, with a cold expression.
"After last night I'm just glad you guys are all ok." Lynn explained.
"I'm surprised you even care." Lincoln said.
"Why wouldn't I care?" Lynn asked.
"Maybe because you never care about anything." Lincoln explained. "You never care about anything but your sports, and yourself."
Lynn suddenly felt like she was being attacked out of nowhere. "Uh Linc' you know that's not true." Lynn said, trying to be as sincere as possible. "Of course, I care about you guys. You're my family."
"Sure, doesn't seem like it." Lori said.
"Yeah you just think you're better than everyone else." Leni added, with a harshness that is unheard of from her. "Just because you're athletic you think you can just push us around."
"Not to mention punching me all the time." Lincoln said.
"You're just a big bully." Leni added.
"What?" Lynn was overwhelmed with feelings of confusion, shock, and fear. It hurt, it really hurt. Her chest felt like someone was shoving a spike through it.
"And above all that, you put ME in the nut house!" Lincoln shouted, with anger in his voice.
"What? I didn't..." Lynn started to back away.
"If you hadn't dared me to go up those stairs." Lincoln said. "I wouldn't have lost my mind."
"I... I gotta get some fresh air." Lynn headed out the door.
As she left the house, she could have sworn she heard someone say "Good Riddance."
Lynn started to sob quietly as she walked across the front yard. Lynn usually put on a tough girl act. She didn't like to show any weakness, even when she was being horribly bullied in her first year of middle school.
But now, hearing all that from her own family, there was no way she could hold the flood gates. She fell to her hands and knees crying harder than she had in a long time.
Then, somehow, the twins caught her attention. She didn't know why, all they were doing was playing jump rope with Luan. But for some reason she felt an uncontrollable urge to listen to the twins chanting as Luan jumped rope between them.
"One two Freddy's coming for you..." The twins chanted.
"The Freddy Krueger song?" Lynn whispered to herself, wiping the wears from her eyes. "Why would they be singing that?" Lynn was pretty sure the twins had never seen Nightmare on Elm Street. That movie would be way to scary for them. Even though Lana liked to get dirty, and Lola could be a bit intense, the twins were easily frightened.
Then the sky started to fade to a deep red color. The sprinklers in the lawn started to spray blood. Lynn turned around to look at the house.
A hellish glow emanated from the windows. The door slowly creaked open.
Lynn could not believe what she was seeing. A dark figure stood in the doorway with red light behind him, he gave a slow deep menacing laugh. The figure had a dark cowboy hat, red and green striped sweater, and metal claws on his right hand.
Freddy freaking Krueger was standing in the front door of the Loud House.
"NOPE!" Lynn said. "No way, no, no NO!"
Lynn turned around and ran for the street, as Freddy stepped down the porch.
"Time for some Lynnception." Freddy laughed.
Oh my gosh, his jokes are worse than Luan's! Lynn thought.
As her feet hit the pavement of the street her shoes melted, and her feet were stuck.
"Wah!" Lynn yelled. "THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!"
Freddy appeared behind Lynn. He lifted his hand and slashed his claws across Lynn's back.
Lynn could feel the sharp sting of Freddy's claws and they dug into her back.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" Lynn shrieked in pain and terror. She opened her eyes to see she was sitting up in her bed.
"You having bad dreams too?" Lucy asked from the bed next to Lynn. Lynn looked at the clock. It was 3:00 am.
"I don't know how any of us can sleep after what we just saw." Lucy said.
It was only a few hours ago that the kids saw the Rake in Lori and Leni's room. Of course, the creature escaped before the parents saw it.
"When I told everyone about the Rake. I didn't think it would actually be real." Lucy said. "It's just a story, everyone knows that."
"I just got attacked by Freddy Krueger." Lynn said.
"Freddy Krueger?" Lucy said. "Like from Nightmare on Elm Street?"
"That's the one." Lynn nodded.
"But that's just a movie Lynn." Lucy said. "Freddy Krueger is just an actor in make-up. You know that."
"It felt so real." Lynn said.
"Look you know how much I love the supernatural but..." Lucy said. "Freddy Krueger? I mean come on, even I think that's ridiculous." Lucy paused for a moment. "And I talk to ghosts!"
Lynn got up and left her room. Downstairs she could hear her parents talking. They whispered, but Lynn could hear everything they said.
"I keep saying that we need to lock the doors at night." Lynn Sr. said.
"The girls said." Rita said.
"What the girls said doesn't make any sense!" Lynn Sr. snapped back.
In Lori and Leni's room they had draped a tarp over the window to keep the cold air out until they can find a replacement.
"I'm so scared." Leni whimpered. "I can't sleep."
"I Know." Lori said. "I can't sleep either, I'm scared too. What on earth was that thing?"
Lynn headed to the bathroom. She could still feel the sting of Freddy's blades on her back. She had to go splash water in her face or something. To shake away the memory of that dream.
She ran into Luan just before she got to the bathroom.
"Lori and Leni ok?" Luan asked.
"I dunno." Lynn said. "I can't imagine what they must be going through. I'm a bit shaken up myself."
"Maybe we should just leaf them alone." Luan giggled. "Let them rake their feeling together. Get it?"
"That's not funny bra." Luna scorned Luan. "Now come back to bed. You standing out here is making me nervous."
Lynn walked into the bathroom and turned on the lights. She splashed some water in her face. She looked down to see a pool of blood forming around her feet.
"What the?" Lynn said.
She turned around to look at her own back in the mirror. She saw four bleeding scratches going the length of her back.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!" Lynn screamed.
...
"My poor baby!" Rita said.
"It's gonna be ok LJ," Lynn Sr. said, practically crying. "Daddy's here for you."
Lynn was in the living room with the rest of her family, she was showing them the still bleeding scratches on her back. The sun was just starting to rise.
"Do I need to go to the hospital?" Lynn Jr. asked, her body still shaking from the shock of it all.
"I should be able to stitch you up myself." Lisa said.
"Well what would we even tell the doctors?" Lori asked. "We can't just tell them that it was, who did you say it was again? Jason?"
"Freddy." Lynn replied. "Freddy Krueger. From a Nightmare on Elm St."
"So, did he just claw his way out of the movies." Luan giggle. "Get it? But seriously that's crazy Lynn."
"Guys it's just like how the Garden Hose came out of Lucy's story." Leni pointed out.
"Sigh, it's the Rake, Leni." Lucy corrected her.
"Girls, monsters don't just crawl out of movies and stories." Rita said.
"Try telling that to my torn open back!" Lynn said.
Suddenly a series of visions filled Lincoln's head.
"No, no, no," Lincoln uttered. "SHUT UP!".
The entire room turned their attention to Lincoln.
"Looks like Lincoln needs to go back to the crazy shack." Luna said.
"No!" Lincoln said. "I'm not crazy. I... I remember... I remember everything."
"About what?" Lola asked.
The memories of what truly happened when he was in the mental hospital for those couple days, when he spoke to agent Jay had hit him like a freight train.
"I remember, what that agent guy said to me." Lincoln said. "Back when I was in the nut house, when I talked to that agent guy. He told me who the Red king is."
...
"OUCH!" Lynn yelled.
Lynn was sprawled out on an operating table in Lisa's room, as Lisa stitched her up.
Lincoln had called a sibling meeting, but he agreed to wait until Lynn was fixed up. What Lincoln had to say was big, but his sister's health was more important to him.
Lincoln stood by Lynn as Lisa stitched up her wounds.
"You sure it was Freddy Krueger?" Lincoln said.
"I know what Freddy Krueger looks like Stincoln." Lynn shot back. "And I know it sounds crazy but... He was real."
"If I'm right." Lincoln said. "That's not crazy at all."
...
The siblings gathered in Lori and Leni's room.
Lincoln stood in front of a white board that the siblings would sometimes use to make plans.
"So, you finally figured out who this Red King guy is that you have been obsessing over all summer." Lori said.
"Not just who, but what." Lincoln said, "And where. What you heard about the fire and me rescuing that agent guy, it's not really what happened.
See what really happened was covered up by the Red King himself. And I was given a false memory. But somehow the veil has been lifted, and I now remember what really happened that day. The agent told me everything he knew about the Red King."
Lincoln drew a picture of a spiral on the white board.
"This is the milky way galaxy." Lincoln said. Then he drew a circle on one of the arms of the spiral. "And this is us, planet Earth. But the Red King, he lives here." Lincoln drew another circle in the center of the spiral.
"Did we really need a visual for that?" Luna whispered to Luan. "I mean he could have just said he lives in the middle of the galaxy. We all know what a galaxy is."
"What's a galaxy?" Leni asked. "Is the Red King in my phone?" Leni held up her phone. Which had a label that read "Samsung Galaxy s8"
"Never mind." Luna said.
"So, what is the Red King?' Lori asked. "Some sort of alien?"
"Try Alien GOD!" Lincoln replied. "Somehow this guy was able to take over my body from millions of lightyears away!"
"You got possessed by an alien god?" Lucy said. "Lucky!"
"This is all because I dared you to climb that stupid staircase in the woods isn't it?" Lynn asked.
"I'm not sure." Lincoln said. "But before I got possessed the agent told me a lot. He found out about this Red King through antient ruins and stuff. Apparently, the Red King is as old as time itself, and he's seriously powerful. Like he's more powerful than all of Ace Savvy's enemies put together. And apparently his true form is so horrifying that you would go mad just by looking at him. When he possessed me, I could still see and here what was going on. He... He could somehow channel his powers through me. He could warp reality somehow, he made a camera disappear, and turned a door into a drawing. HE MADE FIRE COME OUT OF MY HAND!" Lincoln held up his bandaged hand. "He used it to kill two cops. And you know that creepy car sales man we saw in the woods."
"James Prawly." Lori replied. "Yeah that guy is a little off."
"Well he's actually being controlled by an alien parasite named Sparky! This Sparky thing made spikes come out of Prawly's hand, and he sucked the brains out of some other guy. I think the Red King said Sparky was something called a mind worm, it was like the Red King's pet or something."
"Now this government agency this agent guy worked for." Lincoln continued. "The guys who have been flying those black helicopters for the past couple weeks. They work for this agency I think they were called SCP. And they have a base somewhere in Royal Woods. In that base is this rift in time and space. The agent said it opened about 11 years ago, WHEN I WAS BORN! I think the Red King is somehow using this rift to send these monsters into Royal woods to get us!"
"Why would he do that?" Lana said. "What did we do, that some alien god is trying to send monsters to get us?"
"The agent." Lincoln said. "I believe his name was Jay. He told me that there is this prophecy, that the Red King will be defeated by a child who was born when the rift opened."
"So, in other words you?" Lori said "Kind of figures this would be about you? Come on guys, he's clearly making this stuff up."
Lori got up and left the room. She was fallowed by Luna, Luan, and Lola. Lily didn't really do anything because she is just a baby.
Lynn, Lucy, Lana, Leni and Lisa stayed.
"Well you guys believe me, right?" Lincoln said.
"Psh, you didn't make up these wounds on my back." Lynn said.
"I'll always believe you Lincoln." Lucy said.
"It's gotta be connected to what happened to me." Lana added.
"I don't know what to believe anymore." Leni said. "But no matter what, I'm with you Linky."
"I don't believe a single word of your story." Lisa said. "But I would love to use this opportunity to study a crazy person as he slips into madness."
"Uh ok." Lincoln said.
"So how do you plan to stop an alien god that's as old as the universe?" Lucy asked. "Especially if just looking at him will make you go made."
"Jay said there was something with his name." Lincoln said.
"The Red King?" Lynn said.
"No, the Red King's TRUE name." Lincoln said. "If we learn the Red King's true name and say it out loud. Either that will stop the Red King, or..."
"Or what?" Leni asked.
"Or it might end the entire universe." Lincoln said. "All I know is once the Red King's true name is discovered, everything will change."
The room was silent for a few moments.
"So that rift..." Lynn said. "It's a rift in space AND time, right?"
"I believe so." Lincoln said.
"Maybe we can use that rift to go back in time." Lynn suggested. "And we can stop you from going up that staircase. Then you will never get connected to The Red King, and none of this would ever happen!"
"Even if we know where the SCP base is..." Lincoln said. "That place is likely heavily guarded, and impossible to get into. Besides, I think this was going on long before that. Remember when Lucy and I saw that guy dressed as Michael Myers on the last day of school?"
"I remember." Lucy said. "Are you saying that was the real Michael Myers then?"
"I think it's very possible yes." Lincoln said. "There was also that ship that was capsized a few weeks ago. I can't help but think that is somehow related. But if The Red King is sending movie monsters after us. Then I would like to stop him before..."
"Before he sends the Harvester after you?" Lynn said. "We all know how much that movie scared you."
"Yes, it did." Lincoln said. "And the possibility of seeing the Harvester in real life terrifies me. That's why we have to stop The Red King, before it's too late. I think if I go back up that staircase, maybe I can communicate with The Red King."
"So what?" Lynn said. "You think the Red King is just going to tell you is name?"
"Maybe his name is Bob!" Leni said. "Or Kenny!"
The siblings gave Leni a look.
"What?" Leni said.
"I don't think an ancient alien god, is going to have a name like Bob, or Kenny." Lucy said.
"How about Jeff." Leni said. "Ooo! Or Stacy!"
"I'm going to head into the woods to find that staircase." Lincoln said. "You guys stay here."
"You can't go alone!" Lynn protested.
"If Michael Myers, or Freddy Krueger, or the Rake, or some other monster comes to this house." Lincoln said. "I need you guys to be here, to protect our other sisters, and our parents. But this I need to do alone, it's me the Red King wants, not you guys."
Lynn stood up. "Ok the rest of them can stay here. But I'm coming with you."
"Lynn." Lincoln sighed.
"No Stincoln!" Lynn said. "I'm coming with you. I just faced Freddy freaking Krueger! Compared to him, the Harvester is NOTHING!"
"She's not wrong." Lisa said.
"And hey, how tough can this Red King guy really be?" Lynn said. "I got your back bro, and I always will."
...
Lincoln and Lynn walked through the forest. Clouds started to form overhead, and it was starting to get chilly.
"I think it's going to rain." Lynn pointed out.
"See any sign of Har... you know who." Lincoln asked.
"The Harvester?" Lynn said. "No not really. Just remember it's only a movie."
"But movie characters are coming to life Lynn. You yourself got attacked by Freddy Krueger, remember?"
"Yeah," Lynn said. "Well even at that, Freddy Krueger is an all-powerful dream demon. The Harvester is just some old guy. If he shows his face, we can take him." Lynn scratched her back, as the wounds were starting to itch.
"Want me to get that for you?" Lincoln asked.
"Yeah could you?" Lynn said. "But be gentle, I don't want the stitches to come out."
Then they heard a faint whistling.
"Did you here that?" Lynn said.
The whistling grew louder.
"Sounds like... old McDonald Had a Farm." Lincoln said.
"I don't want to scare you Linc." Lynn said. "But didn't the harvester whistle that in the movie?"
"He did." Lincoln whispered.
"Alright whoever's doing that it's not funny!" Lynn yelled.
Then a knife flew out of the forest and stuck into the ground next to Lynn's feet.
Lynn's eyes widened and her jaw dropped.
They heard the whistling again. The siblings started to back away. Suddenly a net rose from the ground trapping them both. Leaving the brother and sister hanging from a tree.
"Old McDonald had a farm." A voice sang from somewhere in the forest. "E I E I O."
The voice continued singing. "On that farm he had some cattle.
E I E I O.
He sliced them up and made some stakes."
The man stepped out of the shadows. He was a scrawny man. He was average height, with dark eyes, grey hair, and a mustache. He had a baggy orange t-shirt, overalls, and a straw hat.
"E I E I O." A huge grin spread across the man's face. "Well, well, well, what do we have here?"
"It's him, it's him." Lincoln repeated.
"Um sir." Lynn said. "I think we accidently sprung one of your traps. I'm terribly sorry if we're trespassing, my brother and I thought this was public land. If you could just cut us down, we'll get out of your hair."
"Cut you down?" The man said.
"Yeah, just cut us down." Lynn said.
"Nah." The man said.
"Lynn it's the Harvester!" Lincoln hissed.
"Oh, come on Mr." Lynn pleaded. "Just let us go!"
The man pulled a gun from his back pocket and aimed it at the two of them.
"OH MY GOSH!!!!" Lynn shrieked. "HELP! HHEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPP!!!!!"
Then the man shot two tranquilizer darts into Lynn and Lincoln, causing them both to pass out.
Lincoln briefly woke sometime later to find he and his sister were being dragged across the ground in the net.
"Wha..." Lincoln muttered, "Where?"
Then he was hit with another dart and passed out again.
...
"Lincoln... Lincoln..." Lynn whispered as Lincoln slowly regained consciousness.
"L...Lynn?" Lincoln muttered.
"Oh, thank goodness I thought I had lost you." Lynn said.
The two of them were locked in a cage, in some dirty old basement.
"Where are we?" Lincoln asked.
"I don't know." Lynn said. "we were in this cage when I woke up. Lincoln I.... I'm really scared."
They heard what sounded like power tools, and the sound of a girl screaming.
Lincoln turned his head in the direction of the noise. Lincoln and Lynn where alone in the room. The screaming must have been coming from a different room.
"That's been going on for a long time now." Lynn said. "Off and on. What do you think it is?"
"Lynn..." Lincoln looked deep into his sisters eyes. "He's called the Harvester, remember."
"Oh... you mean he's..." Lynn said.
Lincoln said nothing, just continued to look into Lynn's eyes.
"Oh my gosh." Lynn said as the screaming started up again. "That poor girl. Whoever that is... they don't deserve this."
Lincoln looked around the room. It was dark he couldn't make out anything but his sister, and the cage they were in. He grabbed the cage lock and rattled it.
"We need to find a way out of here." Lincoln said.
"You're telling me?" Lynn said. "I... I don't want to... I don't wanna die Lincoln..." Lynn started to cry. "I don't wanna die!"
Lincoln embraced his sister and he started to cry with her. "I don't wanna die either."
"I'm sorry about all the times I pushed you around." Lynn cried. "I'm so sorry."
"And I'm sorry I wasn't there for you." Lincoln said. "When you were going through such a rough time, I wasn't there for you as much as I should have been, and I'm sorry."
"I love you Stincoln." Lynn said.
"I love you too Lynn." Lincoln said. They both started to cry harder.
That's when the door opened, and the Harvester walked in. He flicked on the lights to reveal the true horror show Lincoln and Lynn were in. The walls were lined with shelves, stacked to the ceiling. Each shelf was full of glass jars containing human organs.
The Harvester stacked some jars of fresh organs on the shelves. It didn't take a genius to figure out where the organs came from.
The two kids backed away to the far side of the cage.
"No, no, please no!" Lynn and Lincoln begged, while holding each other tightly.
The Harvester opened the cage and reached in.
"No please we're just kids!" Lynn begged. "We're too young to die!"
The Harvester grabbed Lynn by the arm.
"NO!" Lynn shrieked, pulling her arm away. Lincoln managed to grab the Harvester's other arm and bite him.
"Get off of me you little brat!" The Harvested demanded as he slammed Lincoln against the cage, causing him to let go.
"Lynn NO!" Lincoln yelled as his sister was pulled out of the cage.
"TAKE ME INSTEAD!" Lincoln yelled.
"Lincoln no!" Lynn yelled as she struggled.
"You know what." The Harvester said. "I'll just take both of you." Then he stomped his boot into Lynn's leg.
CRACK! The teenage girl's leg snapped like a stick.
"AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!" Lynn wailed in pain.
The harvester reached into the cage and grabbed Lincoln by his snow-white hair. He then slammed Lincoln's head into one of the steel bars.
Blood ran down Lincoln's forehead and the room started to spin around him.
"I WILL MAKE YOU PAY FOR THIS!!!!" Lynn growled.
...
Lynn and Lincoln where dragged trough a short hallway. Lynn moaned in pain, and Lincoln's head was fuzzy, and dizzy. The Harvester may have been able to handle the struggling of one victim, but two may have been a bit much for him, that is why he immobilized them both. Now he could just drag the loud siblings across the ground, to his slaughter room.
The room was bathed in red light. In the center of the room was a table full of blood stains. Shackles and chains were connected to each corner of the table.
Along the back wall was a counter-top full of knives and other sharp cutting tools.
The Harvester handcuffed Lincoln to a radiator. Lincoln would have to watch as the Harvester cut out his sister's organs.
Lincoln pulled and pulled, trying to get himself free. His head throbbed and he felt utterly helpless. Helpless to save a person he deeply cared about. This was his worst nightmare come true.
The Harvester made Lynn stand on her feet. Lynn tried to fight back, but the pain in her leg was so intense.
The Harvester made Lynn lie down on the table. The Harvested hadn't washed the table after the last girl he had there. It was warm, wet and sticky.
Lynn's heart raced faster and faster, realizing she would never get up off this table, that this was the end of her life.
The Harvester chained Lynn's arms and legs to the corners of the table.
"You're next little man." The Harvester pointed at Lincoln.
"Please let her go!" Lincoln pleaded. "You can have me, but let my sister go." His eyes were bloodshot from tears, and his cheeks where red.
Lynn too had bloodshot eyes and red cheeks as she was balling too.
"We haven't done anything to you." Lynn sobbed. "Please don't do this."
The Harvester started to whistle Old McDonald as he sharpened, cleaned, and sterilized his knives.
Lynn turned to her little brother. "I think this is the end Lincoln." Lynn whimpered. "Before I die, I just want you to now, I couldn't be prouder to have you as my brother."
"Thank you." Lincoln sniffed. "And I'm proud to have you as a sister."
"I love you Lincoln." Lynn said.
"I love you too Lynn." Lincoln replied.
"Promise me..." Lynn said. "That you will get out of here, that you will put a stop to that Red King, before he takes over the planet, before he hurts our other sisters, or our parents."
"I don't know if I can make that promise." Lincoln said, he was sure he would die next. "If I do make it, I'll try my best to stop the Red King, for you Lynn. But I don't think I can get out of here. But when I die, maybe The Red King won't come to Earth, it's me he wants. With me dead, he'll have no reason to come here."
"Now this is all very touching." The Harvester interrupted. "But I do have one question. Who the heck is The Red King?"
"An alien god who lives in the center of the galexy." Lincoln and Lynn both answered in unison.
"BAHAHA!" The Harvester laughed. "In all my years, I don't think I have ever heard anything so ridiculous. An alien god? Dang that is some crazy sh..."
"I thought..." Lynn said. "Aren't you working for the Red King?"
"Kid I only work for myself." The Harvester replied. "You two have quite the imagination. I almost feel bad I have to cut it out of you. Well anyway girly, time for you to die."
"Come on." Lynn said, "Give me your worst."
"Can't you at least knock her out first?" Lincoln pleaded.
Lynn breathed heavily and closed her eyes as the Harvester brought his blade to her chest. Lynn braced herself for the intense pain to come.
Suddenly the Harvester was distracted by a scratching sound.
"Did you here that?" The Harvester said.
Then he was hit by a blast of energy and fell to the floor.
The louds turned their attention to a large metal bug crawling on the ceiling. Smoke bellowed from the bug's tail.
"Sparky?" Lincoln said.
The Harvester stumbled back to his feet. He looked up at the bug. "What is that? Some sort of toy?"
Then the bug shot more laser blasts at the Harvester. The Harvester picked up a metal pan that he had his tools on and used it to block the laser blasts.
Bolts of electricity shot out of the bug's tail and zapped the harvester.
"GGGGAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!" The Harvester wailed as his body twitched and convulsed.
The Harvester coughed up a puff of black smoke, his face was singed black and his hair stood on end.
"Harvestin' season.... Is over." The Harvester said before fainting to the ground.
"I guess that's why they call him Sparky." Lincoln said.
Then the bug dropped onto the table and crawled up Lynn's chest, to her face. The creature had to be at least a long as Lynn's arm.
"Nice Sparky." Lynn said, with a nervous chuckle. "Now be a good alien bug thing and don't hurt me. Ok?"
Sweat dripped down Lynn's forehead as Sparky drew closer to Lynn's face.
"Don't make any sudden moves." Lincoln said.
Then the bug crawled its way into Lynn's mouth.
The bug burrowed its way into Lynn's brain to take control of her body.
"You... little... BRATS!" The Harvester growled as he picked himself back to his feet.
Lynn's eyes then started to glow red. She threw her hand up and broke the chain that bound her. Then the other one. Then she reached down and ripped the chains from her legs.
"What in the world!?!?" The Harvester said.
Lynn then got off of the table and onto the floor.
"Host, Lynn Loud Jr." Lynn said, cocking her head to the side. "Gender: female, species: Human, age: 13, condition: fractured bone in right leg."
A red glow emanated from Lynn's right leg, then dissipated within a few seconds.
"Right leg repaired." Lynn said.
"L-Lynn?" Lincoln said.
"Don't worry Lincoln." Lynn said. "Your sister will be unharmed. Once I leave her body, she won't remember any of this, it'll be just like a bad dream."
"What the heck are you?" The Harvester said.
Lynn turned around to face The Harvester. She grabbed the table, which was bolted to the floor and with one hand and ripped it from the ground and threw it to the wall.
The table slammed against the wall with a loud bang. Lynn glared at the Harvester, the red glow in her eyes getting brighter.
"I'm your worst nightmare." Lynn smirked. She aimed her fist at The Harvester and flames shot from her wrist.
"WHOA!" The Harvester ducked under the flames. "OH YOU LITTLE C..."
Then Lynn punched the Harvester in the chest sending him flying backward. He slammed into the counter behind him, shattering it.
The Harvester gasped for breath, as Lynn came in closer.
"Humans are so fragile." Lynn said.
The Harvester got to his feet and headed for the exit. "You haven't heard the last of me Louds!" The Harvester yelled as he ran away.
"What... what are you?" Lincoln asked.
"I'm a cybernetic organism from the planet Yolrov, in the Hoiter star system." Lynn answered. Or at least the bug-like creature controlling Lynn answered, with Lynn's voice.
"So, you are an alien then?" Lincoln said.
"Alien is a relative term." Lynn said, turning to face Lincoln head on. "To you, yes I am an alien. But to me, you're the alien. The soft, fragile, inferior alien."
"Wh-why are you helping me?" Lincoln asked. "I thought you worked for the red king."
"You have much to learn Lincoln Loud." Lynn said. "But the answers will come to you in time. When you are ready. But right now, we need to get out of this building."
Lynn broke Lincoln's handcuffs with her bare hands.
Lincoln and the possessed Lynn made their way out of the harvesters shack.
There is a saying that goes "We are not out of the woods yet." It means that while one may seem to be out of danger, there is still grave danger just around the corner. For Lincoln and Lynn this was true both figuratively and literally.
Though they had escaped The Harvester, they were still physically in the woods. Also, the true terrors are yet to come.
"So back there." Lincoln said. "Is Lynn a superhero now?"
"Not exactly." Lynn said. "I am what you would call a parasite."
"A parasite?" Lincoln said.
"I eat brains, Lincoln." Lynn said.
"You eat brains? ARE YOU EATING MY SISTER'S BRAIN!?!?!" Lincoln snapped.
"I don't eat the brain of my host." Lynn explained. "As stated before, your sister will be fine. My species takes a host for both protection and to use as a weapon.
When we attach ourselves to the brain of a host, we augment the body, giving the host superhuman strength, durability, and advanced weapons. But most importantly we give our hosts this." Lynn held out her hand and a metal spike came out of her palm. "We use this spike to penetrate the skulls of our prey and suck out the brains."
"So will Lynn still have these gifts after you leave her body." Lincoln asked.
"No." Lynn replied. "That is what make my species a parasite and not a mutualist. Once we are in the brain of a host, we control the body completely, similar to you notion of a demon, except we exist. The augmentations belong to me, not to the host, not to Lynn. Your sister is unconscious right now, she will never know she even had these powers. Once I leave Lynn's body, the augmentations will painlessly retract into my own body, and Lynn will once again be a squishy, weak human."
Lynn looked at the sky. The clouds were thick, and the wind was strong.
"There's a storm on the horizon, we better act quickly." Lynn said.
"When are you going to give me back my sister?" Lincoln asked.
"You wanted to go back to that staircase." Lynn said. "I have some business to take care of with that staircase. After that, she's all yours." Lynn gave Lincoln a half smile.
...
"So why didn't you just take over the Harvester and make him let us go?" Lincoln asked. "Could have been easier."
"I can't control those things." Lynn said.
"What things." Lincoln asked.
"Them." Lynn said. "He may look human, but I think you know as well as I do. The Harvester is not of this world. Same can be said with the Rake, Freddy Krueger, and Michael Myers."
"So that wasn't just a guy I a mask." Lincoln said.
"Its not the real Michael Myers either." Lynn cracked a smile. "The real Michael is a monster of fiction, that thing is just a mimic. But they do act and think the same way as the characters and ideas they are made to imitate. They believe they are real."
"Is the Red King sending them?" Lincoln asked. "And why is he doing that? Why would he make a bunch of movie monsters and have them believe they are really the monsters from the movies?"
"You are not yet ready for that information." Lynn said. "The Red King's dealings are too much for the mortal mind to handle."
"Who is the Red King?" Lincoln asked.
"Huh?"
"What's the Red King's name?" Lincoln elaborated. "His REAL name."
"DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS YOU AREN'T PREPAIRED TO HEAR THE ANSWER TO!!!!!!!!!" Lynn snapped, her eyes once again glowing bright red.
"Ok touchy subject." Lincoln said.
"We're here." Lynn said.
Before them stood the same staircase Lincoln climbed in the beginning of summer. Somehow it seemed lass spooky now. What was once this ominous force, now seemed dead somehow.
Perhaps it's because after what Lincoln had been through, a simple staircase just didn't seem that threatening anymore.
"You don't even know what this is do you?" Lynn asked.
"A staircase?" Lincoln replied.
"Psh, mortals." Lynn smirked. "No this is something much grander. Millions of years ago, this was a docking station for intergalactic spaceships. There are many around the world. The pyramids of Egypt, and Stonehenge are a few examples that come to mind.
Empires from around the galaxy gathered food and supplies from this planet to trade with other civilizations. I'm told it was magnificent. Of course, the king and I have never been to this planet before. But we have sampled some of their resources.
Over the Melina traffic to this sector of space slowed more and more. The last vessel to come here crashed in a place called Roswell. After that the races of the universe never really returned. At least not officially, there have been a few stories here and there of visits to this planet. But nothing major. That is until we got word that this was the home of the famous Loud family."
"Famous?" Lincoln said. "What makes us famous? We're nobodies."
"There is much to learn about your family's place in the stars." Lynn said. Lynn then reached into her mouth and pulled out a small metal ball, covered in clear slime.
"Ugh." Lincoln shuttered, grossed out by the site.
"I swiped this rom your sister." Lynn explained. "The really young one in the green sweater who is way smarter than she has any right to be. Really I was just taking back what's mine."
"Wat is it?" Lincoln asked.
"It's a bit of tech from The Red King." Lynn replied. "It entered the atmosphere with me. The little one, Lisa took it from its landing site. She had it locked up. But you've seen my true form, I'm small enough to get into many cracks." She pressed a button on the metal ball, and it lit up in a red light.
"So, what's it do?" Lincoln asked.
"It activates the staircase." Lynn said. "Once active the staircase will act as a beacon for the Red King and his fleet."
Lincoln picked up a stick and used it to knock the device from Lynn's hand.
"I can't let you do that Sparky!" Lincoln said, trying to sound as intimidating as he could. "I came out here to stop the Red King, not to summon him."
At first Lynn had a shocked and confused look on her face, then she smiled and let out a laugh. "Don't make me laugh human." Lynn mocked. "You saw what I did to the hick."
"I think I can take you." Lincoln said, gripping the stick tighter, ready for a fight. "I've seen what you can do, and the fate of my world is at stake."
"You think you can take me?" Lynn said with a mocking smirk.
"I think you'll find I'm more capable than I seem." Lincoln said.
"Even so." Lynn said. "What about poor Lynn?"
"Huh?"
"My orders are to take you guys in alive." Lynn said. "However, it's you The Red King really wants, your sisters are just a bonus. I'm sure the King won't mind if I knock out one little, boneheaded, sporty Loud."
"Remember I'm in Lynn's brain." Lynn continued "And I eat brains. All I need to do is start chowing down and bye, bye Lynn. The Red King doesn't REALLY know exactly how many of you there are. He won't even know Lynn was ever alive. Now be a good little doggy and drop the stick."
Lincoln slowly set the stick on the ground.
An evil smile spread across Lynn's face. "Good dog."
Then she picked up the metal glowing ball. She opened a hatch in the side of the staircase and placed the ball inside.
The staircase lit up with red lights.
"You won't get away with this." Lincoln said.
"I already have." Lynn smiled. "but a deal is a deal. You can have your sister back now. But before I go, I need to tell you something."
"What?" Lincoln said.
"These monsters, the government, and even the Red king. It's all connected." Lynn said. "It's all connected through the Rift, the being that dwells within it."
"What being?" Lincoln asked.
Lynn started to cough and gag. She fell to her knees and started to vomit clear slime. Then the bug Sparky dropped out of her mouth and scurried into the woods.
Lynn was on her hands and knees her whole-body trembling. Lincoln knelt beside her and wrapped his arms around his sister.
"It's ok." Lincoln said in a soothing voice. "You're safe."
"Wh-what happened?" Lynn said still trembling in her brother's arms "Am I dead?"
"No" Lincoln said, "we made it. We're ok."
"I'm c-cold." Lynn whimpered. Lincoln held her tighter.
"I wanna go home." Lynn cried.
"We will." Lincoln said. "but we have one thing to take care of first."
Lynn looked up to see the staircase, now glowing red.
"What is that?" Lynn asked.
"It's the staircase." Lincoln said.
"Why is it glowing?"
"long story." Lincoln said. "How are you feeling? Can you walk?"
Lynn got to her feet. "Yeah I... I feel pretty good. My leg? It's healed! But how?"
"Again, long story." Lincoln said. "but I think the answers are up there. I have to climb it again."
"What? Lincoln no!" Lynn said.
"I need answers Lynn." Lincoln said. "And this might be the best shot of getting them."
Lynn put her hand in Lincoln's hand.
"This time." Lynn said with a smile. "We do this together."
