Chapter 19: The King's Secret
"Oof!" Luna was thrust to the floor of Crow's ship. She was handcuffed and a metal clamp covered her mouth.
She tried to get back to her feet and escape just before the door closed.
"Not so fast luv." Crow grabbed her by the back of her shirt collar.
"MMm!!!!" She tried to call out for her siblings as the ship sealed off.
"Perhaps you should enjoy the ride." Crow smirked as the ship took off from the casino planet. "It'll be your last.
The ship escaped the atmosphere and jumped into hyperspace.
"do me a favor and stand right about here." Crow moved Luna to the spot he wanted. Then he took the clamp off of Luna's mouth.
"You can't treat me like this bra!" Luna protested.
"Kid, you really need to learn to chill out." Crow said, pressing a button on his arm.
Luna was doused in a freezing cold cloud. Within seconds she was frozen in a block of some solid silver colored material.
"Get it?" Crow said. "Chill out! HA!"
...
Crow's ship docked in the hanger of the Singularity.
The Red King stood in the hanger, watching the ship make its landing.
The ramp came down from Crow's ship, and Crow marched out. The silver block Luna was frozen in floated behind him, carried by a high-tech casing that incased it.
"Your majesty." Crow greeted the King.
"Crow." Red said. "To what do I owe the pleaser?" Like most of the galaxy, The Red King did not trust or even like Crow. But also, like most of the galaxy he respected Crow as the galaxy's most skilled bounty hunter.
"Those kids you're after." Crow said. "I got one of them. The uh... the musical one. What was her name? Luna?"
"She alive?" Red asked.
"Yeah of course, sir." Crow said. "She's frozen in this block of carbonite. So, it's what? a million credits for each one, yeah?""
"You froze her in fucking carbonite?" The Red King gritted his teeth. "The fuck is wrong with you boy?"
"Is there a problem?" Crow asked.
"Yeah there's a fucking problem." Red scorned. "you could have given her brain damage, or tissue damage."
"Well boo fucking who!' Crow said. "Ain't you just gonna kill her anyway."
"Kill her?" Red said. "What the fuck? Do you even know why I wanted her and her family here?"
"Well, with all do, respect mate," Crow said. "I never really gave it much thought."
"No, you didn't." The Red King got closer to Crow, rage filling his eyes. "Because you don't care why you hunt the people you hunt. All you care about is your paycheck. And that is why you're not getting a single fucking cent from me."
"Are you kidding me mate?" Crow said. "After all that work, I did getting the little brat here."
"Unfreeze her." Red growled.
"Unfreeze her?" Crow said. "I don't know about that mate. I was thinking she'd make a very nice decorative piece on your wall over there."
Red hot flames ignited in the Red King's clenched fists, and his eyes started to glow red.
"Or I'll just go unfreeze her." Crow said. He went over to the frozen carbonite Luna was trapped in. he pressed a few buttons and the carbonite started to thaw.
Luna fall to the ground coughing and gasping for breath. The Red King knelt down by her side.
Luna was barely conscious. With lightning quick speed Crow snatched Luna's boots from her feet.
"Dude, what the hell?" Red asked.
"Well if ya ain't gonna pay me for bringing her in," Crow explained. "I might as well pawn of these boots. These are nice boots, should be worth a pretty penny. Granted they won't be worth the million credits you promised. But I think I'm entitled to something at least."
"Get out of here!" Red growled. "Get the hell out of here! And if I see ever see your face again, I will kill you without hesitation. DO YOU FUCKING UNDERSTAND ME!?!?!"
"Yes sir!" Crow squeaked.
"THEN GET OFF OF MY FUCKING SHIP!!!!!!!" The Red King demanded.
Crow scurried to his own ship and flew off.
...
"Fucking Red King." Crow grumbled to himself as he flew away. "Puts out an add. A million credits for each of those blokes. He only said the boy had to be alive. I didn't even have to keep that songbird alive, but I did. And what's the thanks I get?
Ungrateful son of a... That jerk is unfit to rule this nation. That mouthy little twit should be dead by all rights."
Then Crow noticed the boots he had sitting on his dashboard.
"But who's to say her family needs to know she's not." Crow smiled. "You want the Louds, I'll make sure they come right for ya."
...
Luna slowly regained consciousness. She was in a bedroom, but not her own. She was in a soft well-kept bed with white sheets. The room was well lit and clean. It was like a really nice hotel room.
"you sleep well?"
Luna turned to see the Red King standing in the doorway, leaning against the door frame.
"YOU?!?!" Luna sat up immediately. "What... what are you going to do with me? Enslave me? Execute me?"
"No, no don't be silly." Red said. "How are you feeling? Are you comfortable? Can I get you anything?"
"No, I'm... I'm good." Luna said. Luna got out of bed then noticed her boots were gone.
"Uh dude, what happened to my boots?" Luna asked.
"Uh yeah about that." Red Said. "The guy who brought you here, Crow. He, well he stole them. Said he was going to pawn them off for money after I refused to pay him for your capture.
I put a bounty on the heads of you and your family in order to get you back here. But I never intended for you to be mistreated the way you were. Crow has a reputation for being, well a complete fucking asshole. But don't worry we can get you knew boots. Come on, I wanna show you something."
"Uh sure." Luna cautiously followed The Red King into the hallway. Red lead Luna to another room on the ship. This room had a massive window that took up an entire wall. Outside the window, a massive star was visible. A gigantic swirling ball of fire lighting up the darkness of space.
"Wow, rad!" Luna said in amazement.
Luna noticed James Prawly (the man controlled by the parasite named Sparky.) standing in the room.
"Haven't seen you in a while." Luna said.
"And I was beginning to enjoy the peace." Prawly/Sparky grumbled.
"Look at those cruisers over there." Red suggested.
A group of raptor cruisers were lined up in a circle. Each one of the enormous triangular ships was spewing boiling hot lava into the frigid darkness of space. The lava from each ship condensed into a massive ball of molten rock.
Then the ships started to shoot balls of ice at the lava to harden it into solid rock.
Once the cruisers stopped shooting out ice, they created a forcefield around the ball of rock.
"What is that?" Luna asked.
"That force field condenses gravity in a way that can bend the fabric of time itself." Red explained.
Water started to condense on the ball of rock until it created oceans and clouds. Soon the chunks of land on the planet turned green and plants began to grow.
"You have just witnessed the birth of a new world." Red said.
Luna's jaw dropped. Sher looked over at the Red King.
"Uh, Mr. uh, Red King sir..." Luna said, her heart pounding. Afraid of what the answer to her next question could be. "... are you... are you..." Luna gulped." Are you God?"
"HA! No of course not." The Red King laughed. "I am but a humble citizen of this universe, same as you."
"Dude! You just made a planet!" Luna said.
"True, I do have a lot more toys than you have back home." Red smiled. "But my people and I have been asking the same questions as you. Where do we come from? Why are we here? That is why we create these worlds, to learn the truth about the origin of life. And maybe, the origin of my powers. Luna are you familiar with the Big Bang Theory? And I don't mean the awful sitcom, I mean the actual Big Bang Theory."
"Uh yeah," Luna said. "The theory that the universe was brought into existence by a..."
"A massive fucking explosion that would make Michael Bay shit is pants." Red finished Luna's thought. "Well I was only 6 years old when I was brought to the beginning of time and took that explosion strait to the face.
And somehow even after taking the biggest explosion in the damn universe to the face I survived. Of course, I was destroyed from the explosion. Ripped apart atom by atom. Yet some part of me survived. I was a disembodied consciousness floating among the chaos. At first it was nothing but swirling fire and energy. No gravity, no up down, no sense of time. I didn't even have a body. Rather terrifying for a young boy such as myself. Especially after being ripped from my own family, a family that wouldn't even exist for millions of years.
I don't know how much time had passed before the first atoms were created. Then the first planet. But eventually a star was formed, and orbiting that star was a planet, one that could support life. And it was on that planet that I was reborn.
I was somehow able to pull my body back together, exactly how it was before. But the difference was, now I could do things that I could never do before. Amazing things that were both exciting and terrifying. I could move things with my mind, I could create fire out of nothing. Create objects made out of pure energy that were somehow solid. I could even fucking fly.
Of course, the really bad part was, that planet I was on. It wasn't the planet I was born on it wasn't my home. My home planet didn't even exist yet.
I had no friends, and no family. But eventually I was found, by a pack of, well what can only be described as... raptors. These raptors were smart though, even smarter than the ones from Jurassic Park. They were smart enough to raise me as one of their own. My powers made it easy for me to hunt and provide for both myself and my new family. Soon they made me their leader. Of course, I outlived all of them. Centuries passed and I witnessed hundreds of generations of these raptors be born and die. I not only witnessed but helped them become a civilization and eventually reach the stars.
Having lived so long, it became hard for me to develop connections with people as they would grow old and die while I aged at a snail's pace.
But with these raptors, my adopted nation now having the technology to travel through space. I decided it was time for me to venture out into the universe and find my home world, to find my real family. But it had been so long, I forgot what my home world was even called. We must have seen thousands of worlds looking for creatures that looked like me.
Along the way I met Zax and his people. His species were practically living rocks, which meant he could live for hundreds of years. For the first time in an unimaginable amount of time, I actually had a friend. And the two of us one day met a little robot worm creature we named sparky. Sparky of course as you know, had a very special ability. He could possess other lifeforms and control their bodies.
At first that was kind of terrifying. But when he was possessing someone, Sparky could actually communicate with us. He agreed to only possess criminals. You know bad guys, people who would be imprisoned or executed anyway. So, Sparky became one of our friends too. Together me, Zax, his sister Gaya, and Sparky traveled the universe salving problems, and helping anyone in need.
Soon we became famous throughout the galaxy. We were like a group of space fairing superheroes. Like the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Of course, that all fell apart when Zax's home world was destroyed. It was hit by a massive meteor that whipped out all life on the planet. A few hundred of his people made it out and are now living on the ship he calls the Gem. I could have stopped it. I could have just turned the asteroid into dust with a snap of my damn fingers. That is if I was there. Instead I was on the other side of the galaxy fallowing up on a lead of where my home planet could be."
"Whoa, that is one heck of a story man." Luna said. "Hey wait a minute. Michael Bay? Guardians of the Galaxy? A sitcom called The Big Bang Theory, which I like by the way. These are pop culture reference from Earth! HOW THE HECK DO YOU KNOW THAT STUFF MAN?"
"Well your planet sends out radio signals all the time." Prawly replied. "Movies and shows like that have been broadcasted across the universe. Any alien race can find them."
"Actually, I saw Guardians of the Galaxy in the theaters." Red explained.
"Wait, WHAT?!?!" Both Luna and Prawly said at once.
"Luna, I think it's time I told you my real name." Red said.
...
Luna went back to her room trying to process what she had been told.
Then a raptor came into the room.
"Hey, my name is Blue." The raptor introduced herself.
"Luna," Luna replied. "Hey, your father is Michael, right? Dude's got like, robot parts."
"You've met my old man?" Blue said.
"Yeah, he's a super cool dude," Luna said. "Helped us out of quite a few jams. Though, knowing what I know now, we weren't really in as much danger as we had thought. You reckon he knew."
"No, I don't think he did man," Blue said. "Very few know about the Red King's true identity. I just found out myself not too long ago. Blew my mind."
"Well why keep it a secret?" Luna asked. "If we'd known he was really, you know... It would have saved a whole lot of trouble."
"Who knows bra," Blue said. "Red's a complicated man. I don't think he even knows why he does half the stuff he does. Hey, I hear you're quite the wiz on the guitar."
"Yeah I am!" Luna said proudly. "Maybe I could play you a song sometime."
"Well we do have quite a few guitars on the singularity." Blue said. "Or at least I have some good ones in my room. I even have some instruments that I bet you've never even heard of. Some cool alien instruments."
"Wow." Luna said. "I would love to see that."
"Oh, but first, I have a message for you." Blue said. "Can't believe I forgot the whole reason I came here."
"A message?"
"Yeah, from the Red King." Blue said. "He's pinpointed where the rest of your siblings are. Apparently, your old ship is on a planet in the Alpha Centaury system. I guess your family's gotten pretty close to home, eh?"
"Alpha what now?" Luna asked.
"It's the closest star to Earth." Blue said. "Besides the sun that is. Pretty amazing when you think about it. You kids have traveled further than anyone in your entire species. Must make you feel pretty special don't it?"
"I guess." Luna said. "I really wish I could talk to them though."
"You can!" Blue said. "That's what I'm saying Bra. We can link up to your ship so you can communicate with them instantly. It'll be just like doing a video chat, but from lightyears away."
"Instantly?" Luna said. "So, I can talk to them in real time? No lagging or anything? You can just send a signal lightyears away, just like that?"
"Well we are the smartest race in the galaxy." Blue bragged.
...
Back on Shipzilla...
"So, you want us to come in with all the weapons we can get and mount a daring rescue?" Lynn asked.
"NO!" Luna said. "Don't bring weapons. Trust me, you won't need them. I don't need to be rescued, I'm not being held captive, I like it hear."
"You like it there?" Lori said.
"Yeah, I got a really nice room. And the raptors are treating me well." Luna said. "There not monsters dude."
"But your trapped there." Luan said. "Lightyears away from home, away from us."
"Not really dude." Luna said. "I can leave anytime I want. They can open up a wormhole and send me right back to Earth upon my request. Oh Michael, I met your daughter here, Blue."
The cybernetic raptor Michael perked up.
"You met Blue?"
"Hey pops." Blue appeared on the screen.
"Blue! Honey!" Michael said.
"Hey, I told the Red King you're not a traitor." Blue said. "Told him it was a big misunderstanding, that you thought he was going to hurt those kids."
"Well, wasn't he?" Lori asked. "He literally kidnapped our sister."
"Nah dude, that maniac Crow kidnapped her." Blue replied. "Red just wanted you all back at the Singularity."
"Well how do you think we got into outer space in the first place?" Luan asked. "Your people abducted us!"
"you guys really just need to come back here ok?" Luna said. "Anyone in the galaxy can pick up this signal and I don't think Red wants anyone else to know his real name. Just come back here and he'll explain everything."
Luna hung up.
"Well what do we do now?" Lincoln asked.
"We should get off this planet at least." Michael said. "From orbit we can better plan out our next move."
Shipzilla took off and exited the atmosphere of the Inkling home world.
"I know everyone else is thinking it, so I'm just going to say it." Lynn said once they returned to space. "How do we know that was the real Luna?"
"What do you mean?" Lincoln asked.
"Well back on Earth, it's pretty easy to impose someone's face onto a video to make it look like they're saying something they never actually did." Lisa explained. "Kind of like a virtual puppet. Is that what you were thinking Lynn?"
"Well yeah." Lynn said. "I see people do that with athletes and celebrities all the time. Usually as a joke. Like making them say something stupid."
"Well, if you can think it," Michael said. "We raptors can do it. But that would be a pretty dirty trick, even for the Red King."
"I think we should trust her." Lincoln said. "I know my sister, and I'd know if she was just some CGI puppet."
"Or do you just want to go to the singularity so you can learn the Red King's real name?" Lynn asked.
"Lincoln's right." Luan said. "That was the real Luna, I could feel it."
"Uh Pal." Lori said. "How long will it take us to get to the Singularity?"
"Well assuming the Singularity is still in the center of the galaxy." Pal said. "I'd say a couple months at least. YAY! Road trip!"
"A couple months?" Leni said. "Do we even have enough food for that?"
"Well there is one other way." Pal said.
"What's that?" Lori said. "Opening a wormhole?"
"No, I don't have that sort of technology." Pal said. "But, if we go faster than light speed."
"Psh impossible." Lisa said. "Nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. It's a law of science."
"We can if we go right to... LUDICROUS SPEED!!!!!!" Pal said.
The room went silent for a moment.
"You have literally got to be kidding me." Lori said.
"Nope." Pal said. "We can go into ludicrous speed. But I must warn you. This ship is very old and going at that speed could cause significant damage. That's why I've never brought it up before."
"So, the answer, is literally Spaceballs." Lori said.
"I have no idea what that is." Pal said gleefully.
"Never mind." Lori said. "If ludicrous speed will get us to Luna, then do it. Ugh I can't believe I'm actually going to say this but... LUDICROUS SPEED GO!!!!!"
"You might want to buckle up." Pal warned.
BOOM!
The ship jumped into hyperspace. The sudden g-forces flung the crew against the back wall as the ship speed past hyperspace.
The blue tunnel of hyperspace turned orange, and then turned plaid.
"This is just like the ride at the fair!" Lincoln said lifting his hands up as he and his siblings were stuck to the wall.
"WAHOO!!!!!" Lynn cheered.
"HOW LONG IS THIS GOING TO TAKE!?!?!" Lori asked. "I don't want to spend a month stuck to this wall!"
"Only a few more minutes miss Lori!" Pal said.
They were all thrown forward as the ship came to a stop.
The siblings moaned as they got back to their feet.
"YEAH!" Lynn cheered. "Let's go again! Let's go again!"
"Let's not." Luan moaned.
"We literally just traveled half the length of the galaxy," Lori said in disbelief. "By ripping off of Mel Brooks."
Outside the window the black whole of the center of the galaxy was visible. With the Red King's ship, the Singularity orbiting it.
"Well, we're back where we started." Lori said. "This better be worth it."
"Incoming transmission from Zax." Pal said.
The siblings all moaned.
"Ugh, what does he want?" Lynn asked.
Zax's image appeared in the window.
"Louds, did you get back to Earth yet?" Zax asked. "We need that peanut butter. The planet buster cannon you got me is armed, and we are ready for an assault on the Singularity."
"Well about that." Lincoln said.
"Kid, with all due respect, I would like to talk to Lori on this one." Zax said. "This is an adult conversation. Now Lori I need you and your siblings to get back to the Gem immediately and bring that peanut butter!"
Lori rolled her eyes and hung up.
"Ugh!" Lynn said. "Go to the singularity, go to the Gem. Doesn't anyone care what we want?"
"Well one thing is for sure." Michael said. "We can't let Zax blow up the Singularity. At least not with my daughter, and your sister on board."
"And we can't let him kill the Red King while Lincoln is still connected to him." Lori said.
"He can't even hurt the Red King." Lincoln pointed out. "Not without setting off Red's peanut allergy."
"Leni and Lincoln. You guys head to the Singularity and pick up Luna." Lori said.
"Ooh, I wanna go with them." Luan said.
"Ok, just make sure you take Lincoln with you." Lori said. "He has the same powers as the Red King and can protect you if something goes wrong. Plus, the Red King won't dare hurt Lincoln or else he'll get hurt too."
"Lincoln's almost like a living voodoo doll." Lucy said.
"Please don't call me that." Lincoln said in a half polite yet half threatening tone.
"I'll go talk to Zax on the Gem." Lori said.
"I'll go with you." Michael said. "As much as I wanna see my daughter again, I gotta make sure Zax doesn't do anything stupid, like blowing her up."
Michael showed Lincoln how to operate the shuttle. Then Lincoln, Leni, and Luan headed off to the Singularity.
"Pal, if you could, take us to the Gem please." Lori asked.
"Sure, but I must warn you," Pal said. "The ship has taken quite a bit of damage in ludicrous speed..."
"I still can't believe that's a thing." Lori grumbled.
"If we don't get repairs soon," Pal went on. "The ship could be damaged beyond repair. Then the ship, as well as myself will cease to be."
"Wait, so you could literally die?" Lori said.
"No of course not." Pal said gleefully. "Technically I am just a computer and was never alive. So, I can't really die if I was never alive. But if this ship is destroyed, I will no longer exist."
...
Not a word was spoken as the shuttle docked into the hanger of the Singularity.
A raptor wearing a jean jacket and a headband approached the shuttle as Lincoln and his sisters stepped out.
"You guys are the other Loud kids right." The raptor said in a relaxed demeaner.
"Uh yeah, I'm Lincoln and these are my sisters Leni and Luan." Lincoln introduced.
"I'm Blue." The raptor said.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. What's wrong?" Leni said.
"Huh?" Blue was confused.
"Leni, her name is Blue." Luan said.
"Eh sorry about that." Lincoln said. "On our planet Blue is sometimes another word for sad."
"Like, I thought it was a color." Blue said.
"It is," Lincoln said. "But on Earth, words can have more than one meaning."
"Oh, I got ya." Blue said. "Far out little white-haired dude."
"Enough of the small talk." Luan demanded. "Take us to Luna! NOW!"
"Whoa, chill little dudet." Blue said. "Like, right this way alright."
The siblings fallowed the hippy Raptor deeper into the ship.
"Say I thought there was more of you guys." Blue said.
"Uh, the others are back on our ship." Lincoln said. "They had some other things to take care of."
"You seem pretty chill for a raptor." Luan pointed out.
"Uh, what you getting at?" Blue asked.
"Well raptors are usually vicious and bloodthirsty." Luan pointed out.
"That is like, a hurtful stereotype ok?" Blue said. "Many of us raptors are like, a respectful people who just want peace. Ok. I even like, tried to be a vegetarian for a while until the diet made me like really sick.
Turns out our species digestive system isn't built to digest vegetation that well. You humans are lucky you get to like eat fruit and stuff. But I compromise by only eating synthetically grown meat."
"Synthetically grown?" Luan said.
"Yeah, it's meat that was like, grown in a lab." Blue explained. "Without actually killing any animals. It's like, super advanced tech dudes. Alright, here we are."
Blue opened the door to Luna's room.
"Hey guys! You made it!" Luna smiled.
"LUNA!" Luan said as she ran to her sister and gave her the biggest hug of her life. "Oh, I thought we'd lost you!" Tears flowed down Luan's face.
"I missed you too." Luna smiled hugging her back.
"Are you hurt?" Lincoln asked.
"Like I said before bro." Luna smiled breaking away from the hug. "I'm just fine. He's not what you think."
"Well I don't care what he is or what he can do," Luan said. "If that psycho hurt you, I'm gonna..."
"Chill sis'" Luna said. "You're starting to sound more like Lynn than yourself."
"She just really missed you." Lincoln explained.
"Hey, um Blue." Leni whispered. "Think I can talk to the Red King."
"Oh yeah, you dudes wanna talk to the King now." Blue said aloud.
Leni blushed.
"You know what?" Lincoln said. "The Red King can wait. I'd like to catch up with my sister."
"Hey, did you guys bring my boots?" Luna asked. "I mean, these people were nice enough to make new ones for me," Luna pointed to the boots she was wearing. They were completely identical to her old ones, only they were red. "And they're really nice and all, but I would really like my old ones back."
"Can I see Red?" Leni asked in a soft voice.
"Uh yeah sure." Blue said. "Right this way."
...
"Uh Mr. Red King dude." Blue said. "This one really wanted to talk to you. Not sure why, but she was really eager."
The Red King was standing in front of a large window in an observation deck. He turned to see Blue and Leni in the doorway.
"Leni, good to finally see you again." Red smiled. "How the fuck have you been."
"Oh Red!" Leni rushed into the room. She gave the Red King a hug, which caused a shocked look to instantly form on The Red King's face.
"Uh... What's all this about?" Red asked.
Leni let go of Red. "Well um... Look my siblings are good people and all but... and please don't be mad. But you know, we met with that Zax guy and. Well and Zax like, he seems like a great guy too, don't get me wrong. But like, I don't know what the deal is between you two but um... Well Zax has been telling us some not so great things about you... And we've kind of formed an alliance with Zax..."
"Oh, did you now." Red raised an eyebrow.
"Please don't be mad!!!!" Leni pleaded. "The others. They don't see you the way I do..."
"And how's that?" Red asked.
"Well I think," Leni said, blushing, and fidgeting with her hair. "Well I think you're just misunderstood. I think beneath all that rage you have a good heart. And I think you're kind of... handsome."
"Handsome?" The Red King said. "So, you're willing to go against everything you've been told, and even turn your back on your own family. Because you think I'm handsome?"
"What? No! I..." Leni stammered, backing away.
"Well what do you think now." The Red King's eyes started to glow a hellish red, and his hands became engulfed in red flames. He took a step toward Leni and shadows began to cover his face highlighting his glowing red eyes against the darkness.
Leni stepped back. She gulped, her eyes grew wide and sweat poured down her face. She was coming to the realization that she had just made a huge mistake.
The Red King smirked and let out a playful chuckle. His eyes stopped glowing and the flames in his hands went out. "Oh, the look on your face. Fucking priceless."
Leni let out a sigh of relief.
"Look Leni. I'm flattered." Red said. "but you should know we can never be together in that way."
"Is it the whole alien space god thing?" Leni asked. "Because that totally doesn't bother me."
"Well, aside from the fact that I am literally 4 trillion years old." Red explained. "There is one very good reason I can't be with you." Then the Red King leaned in and whispered in Leni's ear.
Leni's eyes again grew wide and her jaw dropped. She backed away from the Red King.
"Are you serious?" Leni asked.
Red nodded. "As serious as a fucking heart attack."
"You mean you..." Leni said. "And all this time I was... And you and Lincoln... our parents... I was crushing on my..." Then Leni fainted.
"SHIT!" Red exclaimed.
...
Back on Earth...
"Hey honey..." Lynn Sr. came down the stairs.
"What is it honey?" Rita asked.
"So, I was digging through some old pictures in the attic. And you know. Looking back at our memories." Lynn Sr. said. "But I found this picture buried under all the family photos."
Lynn Sr. showed the picture to his wife. It was a picture of Lincoln he was about 6 (before he had even met Clyde.) and he was standing next to another little boy who looked just like him. Only the other boy had black hair and a red t-shirt.
"Who is this, standing next to Lincoln?" Lynn Sr. asked.
"Maybe an old friend." Rita suggested. "Someone he doesn't talk to anymore. Gosh he looks so familiar, but I can't remember."
"Uh honey... I know this is going to sound crazy but... how many kids do we have?" Lynn Sr. asked.
Agent Jay sat outside looking at two ancient tablets.
"What are you looking at?" Clyde asked.
"These are ancient tablets recovered from a long dead civilization." Jay replied. "They tell of a being called the Red King, as well as the rift that all these things are coming from. I thought I knew the connection between the Red King and the Rift, but I'm starting to have my doubts."
"So, who is the Red King?" Clyde asked. "Pretty sure Lincoln mentioned him before he and his sisters were abducted by aliens."
"Well according to these tablets and many others back at the base." Jay said. "A base that has now been taken over by a giant fire breathing video game turtle, long story. The Red King is an antient eldritch god as old as the universe. It is said that speaking his true name will destroy the universe, and that only a child born the day the rift opens would be able to end his rule."
"Speaking his true name will end the universe?" Clyde said.
"Well the exact translation says that when the Red King's name is spoken, everything will change." Jay explained.
"Well that doesn't necessarily mean the universe will end." Clyde pointed out. "Just that it will change. Sometimes change can be a good thing you know."
"And change can mean just about anything," Jay added. "It can be a physical change, or something more psychological, like a change in ideas or perspective."
Jay thought for a moment.
"You know, in the beginning of summer we received a transmission, a message from the other side of the rift." Jay said. "And that message was just one word, "Loud" we don't exactly know who sent it, or why.
Just today we found some remnants in this very yard to suggest that rift had opened in right here about 5 years ago. I have files that suggest that the entire Loud family had had their memories wiped around that same exact time. There is a puzzle here, but I don't think we have all the pieces yet."
"My dads and I love solving puzzles." Clyde said.
"Well I think this might just be the biggest puzzle in the history of the universe." Jay said.
...
Shipzilla docked into the main hanger of the Gem.
Lori and Michael informed the Oxite guards that they need to speak to Zax with some urgent news.
The pair were escorted to the main control room while the rest of the siblings waited in Shipzilla.
...
"Uh, Zax, we have some bad news." Lori said as they approached the Oxite leader on the bridge. "We found out what the inklings were."
"They're people Zax." Michael said. "A race of humanoid creatures with a full society and culture. And we regret to inform you that your own sister was leading an operation to slaughter those people behind your back."
"These are some wild accusations." Zax raised an eyebrow. "Do you have proof of this? Where is Gaya now? I see it only fair that she tells her side of the story."
"Well, you see, she's kind of um..." Lori said.
"The Shadow is back." Michael said. "It consumed your sister after we found out what she was doing."
"The Shadow." Zax said. "Well that is indeed bad news."
"Yeah, so maybe we can figure out some sort of peace treaty with the Red King." Lori suggested. "And then you guys can once again work together to defeat the greater evil. Huh? What do you say?"
"Um actually," Zax said. "Peace with the Red King is impossible. He's already oppressed the galaxy enough with his tyranny. Stopping the Red King is a matter that holds importance above all else."
"Well about that." Lori said. "Aside from the thing with the forest. We haven't really seen the Red King doing anything really bad. I mean yeah, he has a scary name and all. And he has been fallowing us. But I have yet to see any of the Red King's supposed atrocities. You haven't even told me what he's done, just that he's big and evil. And this Shadow guy... If you ask me, The Red King is the lesser of two evils here."
"Um actually..." Zax started to explain. Then he was cut off by one of his own guys.
"Sir, we have secured the planet buster and have plotted a course for the Raptor home world Bsepatica." The rock man explained.
Zax scowled at the oxite.
"Bsepatica?" Lori had a confused look on her face. "I thought you were going to bring that thing to the Singularity and use it as a bluff."
"Oh my gosh..." Michael came to a realization. "You've been playing us this whole time. You acted like you were some sort of heroic rebellion fighting some evil empire. All so you could get these gullible humans to do your dirty work. Uh... no offense Lori. And this whole time your plan was to destroy my entire planet!"
Zax raised his hand. A green spike shot from his palm and struck Michael in the neck, digging into his throat and lodging into his spine.
"Gaghk!" Michael choked. He coughed up a mouthful of crimson blood and fell to the ground.
The prehistoric alien bird twitched a few seconds clinging to life with his last ounce of strength, and then he was still.
"MICHAEL!!!!!!" Lori shrieked. She fell to her knees and tried to shake the raptor awake like Simba trying to wake his dead father. But much like Mufasa, Michael was dead.
Uh spoiler alert if you haven't seen the Lion King. And if you haven't seen the Lion King, come on man! Have you been living under a rock?
"HEY!" Lori yelled as a couple of guards grabbed her by the arms. "Let me go!"
"What do you want us to do with the human?" One of the rock creatures asked.
"Throw her in the airlock, along with the poultry." Zax ordered. "Shoot 'em into space."
"What NO! You can't do this!" Lori yelled as she was carried away.
Lori was tossed into an airlock with Michael's corpse.
Lori got to her feet as the door closed.
Zax walked up to the airlock door.
"I TRUSTED YOU!!!!!!" Lori yelled.
"I knew about the inklings. I figured you should know that before you die." Zax explained. "It was actually my idea. Gaya was lying to protect me."
"Are you really going to destroy the raptor's home planet?" Lori asked, tears building up in her eyes.
"Yes, I am." Zax replied, his face void of emotions. "And it wouldn't be possible without you and your small minded siblings. We're fighting a war Lori. And because of your bravery, we can turn the tide in our favor."
"All this time I thought you were a hero." Lori said. "A little annoying yes, but I thought you had a good heart. I thought you were fighting for freedom, I thought you were trying to save the universe. But all this time, you were literally a monster!"
"Oh, I will be saving the universe Lori." Zax said. "Everything will be better once those rats with wings are extinct. I'd say you'll see, but you'll be dead so..."
"You won't get away with this!" Lori said.
"Don't you get it Lori?" Zax said. "When you're the scrappy underdog like me, you can get away with anything."
Then Zax pressed a button on the wall and Lori was sucked into the cold darkness of space.
...
"WHAT DID YOU DO!?!?!" Lincoln yelled as he entered the Singularity's viewing deck to see Leni unconscious at the Red King's feet.
"This is not what it looks like." The Red King threw up his hands, with a nervous look on his face.
"What did you do to my sister!?!?" Lincoln growled.
"She fainted! I didn't touch her! I'm telling the truth!" Red pleaded.
"Why would she faint?" Lincoln asked.
"I told her who I was, who I am." Red said. "Who I really am!"
"You know what? Cut the shit!" Lincoln ignited the lightsaber he was holding. He then pointed the glowing blue blade at Red. "I don't care who you are, not anymore. No one, I repeat NO ONE touches my sister!"
A red blade formed in the Red King's hand. "Kid, you do not want to do this."
"YYYYEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!" Lincoln lunged forward ready to swing his blade at the Red King.
Red blocked Lincoln's strike, effortlessly with one hand.
Lincoln let out a fury of strikes, and red blocked each one. Red pushed Lincoln away with a psychic blast of energy.
"We're linked remember?" Red said. "Whatever happens to me happens to you."
But Lincoln wasn't Listening. He lifted a couple heavy steel containers with his mind and threw them at Red.
Red sliced the containers in two with his blade.
Lincoln shot a blast of blue flames at Red, which red blocked with a red shield of energy.
"This is what everything has been leading to." Lincoln said, then he jumped into the air and came down to strike the Red King.
Red rolled out of the way and Lincoln landed on the floor.
"Will you listen to me?" Red pleaded, anger raising in his voice.
"NO!" Lincoln shouted. Rushing toward red and slashing at him with his blue blade.
Red blocked the strike.
Red swung a couple times at Lincoln, who managed to block each blow.
Heavy boxes and pieces of metal flew through the air at Lincoln. Lincoln jumped and flipped in the air avoiding the projectiles.
Lincoln found himself on a bridge facing down the Red King.
Lincoln and Red clashed swords. Their swords swung to the sides and struck the railing of the bridge sending sparks into the air.
Lincoln swung at the Red King a few more times.
"I would never hurt you or your sisters." The Red King said, huffing and puffing as he was out of breath. "Come on Linky, you gotta believe me."
"Linky?" Lincoln said in an irritated voice. "Linky? Don't you dare call me that! Only my siblings can call me that!"
"You fool I AM your sibling!" Red said.
"Wait what?" Lincoln said.
"Lincoln, I am your brother." The Red King announced.
"No!" Lincoln said, turning off his lightsaber. "That's not true! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!"
"Search your feelings, you know it to be true." Red said. "And hey, at least I didn't cut you hand off."
"Cut my hand off?" Lincoln said. "Why would that be an option."
"Lincoln! He's telling the truth." Leni's voice called out.
Lincoln looked behind the Red King to see Leni getting back to her feet, helped by Luna and Blue.
...
Back on Shipzilla...
Lisa hurried into the command bridge of Shipzilla
"Siblings I have made a shocking discovery!" Lisa announced.
"What discovery?" Lola asked.
"My DNA scanner finally finished analyzing the Red King's DNA!" Lisa said. "I know what he is."
"Is he part frog!!!!!" Lana asked.
"What? Frog? No of course not, that's just silly." Lisa said.
"My money is on an antient being that no amount of human science, including Lisa's measly little DNA scanner can possibly fathom." Lucy said. "And you're going to tell us that the DNA scanner couldn't make heads or tails of it."
"Precisely the opposite in fact." Lisa said. "I can confirm without a fraction of a doubt, that the Red King is 100% human!"
"Oh..." Lucy said. "Well that's disappointing."
"But get this..." Lisa said. "According to the data... wait for it... The Red King is a Loud!"
"He's a Loud?" Lynn said. "What the heck do you mean by that?"
"I mean we are genetically related to The Red King!" Lisa said.
"Um if I may interrupt." Pal said. "I am detecting a human shaped object floating just outside the hanger bay... It appears to be Lori."
"WHAT?!?!" All the Siblings on Shipzilla shouted.
...
"Wait, how can you be my brother?" Lincoln asked. "You're alder than time. And why don't I remember you?"
"Alas I do not have all the answers." Red said. "But I can show you what I do know."
The Red king took Lincoln's hand. Red anergy came from Red's arm and blue energy came from Lincoln's. the energies combined to create a purple glow. Suddenly Lincoln could see all of the Red King's memories, so he knew what he was saying was the truth.
"First let me formally introduce myself once and for all." The Red King said. "My name, my real name is Kennedy. Kennedy Loud."
"Kennedy?" Lincoln said.
With his free hand The Red King, or Kennedy pointed to Lincoln. "Lincoln," Then he pointed to himself. "Kennedy. Though I prefer to be called Kenny Loud. We we're actually twins you and I. We were born in the President's top secret bunker in Royal Woods after our parents car broke down on the way to the hospital. Because of that our parents decided to name us after the nation's greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy.
As we were born, something happened. I'm not exactly sure what as I was you know, just a baby. But something in that bunker had connected us on the molecular level.
As we grew up, we would always be able to know what the other was thinking and we could feel each other's pain. Everyone always thought it was some sort of twin ESP. But I know something else was at work. I asked Mom and Dad about it and they told me about the bunker.
At one point I had even searched for the place. I almost found it deep in the woods but some men in black suits found me and brought me back home.
For the next year or so things seemed normal, until we were about six. It was a normal day in the back yard when there was this explosion and this tear opened up in midair.
All of us ran around screaming and in the chaos, I felt something grab me. This black tentacle that didn't seem to be made of anything but darkness yet somehow it was still solid and strong very, very strong. It wrapped around me and puled me into the rift. The last thing I saw was you running after me and then darkness.
I thought it was all over then, there was nothing, I couldn't see anything, hear anything or even feel anything. It was non-existence, and it was terrifying. Then I saw a face emerge in the darkness, a face with red glowing eyes and long sharp teeth.
It was then I could feel that thing's tentacle wrapped around me. I struggled as it pulled me closer to its gapping jaws. Somehow, I got myself free and pushed away from it, sending myself flying into the darkness and away from that thing.
Then in the darkness I saw a light. A light that was moving closer and closer to me. Or maybe I was moving closer to it, I still don't know. But soon it exploded right in my face. My physical body was destroyed, but some part of me was still alive.
It is now that I know what that dark place I was, the place inside the rift. It was outside of existence itself, outside of the universe beyond both time and space. And that light, that explosion was the big bang itself, kickstarting the universe into motion.
And when I finally pulled myself together, I was no longer a boy, but I was what I am now, what some may call a god."
He then went on to tell Lincoln the same story he told Luna.
...
"So that thing in the rift, did you ever find out what that was?" Lincoln asked.
"No." Kenny replied. "But it did come back for me. But I wouldn't let it have me. Before things went sour between us. Zax and I fought tooth and nail to drive that thing out of our universe."
"And you don't know why none of us can remember you," Lincoln said. "Or that rift opening up in our back yard? And this quantum entanglement thing?"
"As far as the entanglement goes." Kenny said. "I think when I was pulled out of existence our connection was severed. But either when you contacted me on ship docking platform, the staircase in the woods or when we met face to face the connection was sort of re-activated."
"Uh Mr. Red King, or uh Kenny Loud dude." Blue said. "The uh, rest of the loud siblings are here."
Then Lynn and Lucy ran into the room.
"Huston! We have a problem!" Lynn announced.
"Wait." Leni said, confused. "Which one of us is Huston again?"
