(26) planning
Minhyuk Park
"What's the rush, Minhyuk?" Baldy stood in front of me, a grin stretching across his face.
I'm so fucking screwed.
I faced the man, hoping that my expression remained neutral.
"Nothing sir, I just heard that you were looking for me. I'd hate to waste your time." I cringed at my own words, recognizing the fake honey-like tone my mother used to use.
"That's quite alright. Come in." My heart thudded in my chest. Does he know? Or not? Sitting in the seat across his desk, I tried to read the room. It seemed like any other time I was called into his office, nothing out of place.
"May I ask why I'm here?" The man leaned across his desk. Personal space jackass. Ever heard of it?
"I know that this may come as sudden, but I know your plan." Shit. He knows. What do I even do?
"I'm not quite sure I understand." Play stupid. I mean that always works in the movies.
"Oh, I'm sure you do. Why else were you so often spotted with Trigger and Castle?" I shoved my hands in my pockets in an attempt to reduce the shaking.
"What are you getting at?"
"I must say that I'm surprised. I didn't think you had it in you." It took all of my will to not bolt for the door. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. The second he blinks, I'm getting out of here.
"I-" Baldy held up a hand.
"I've decided that you'll be training in as the director at our new branch." Immediately, I shot out of my seat.
"I'm glad you're so pleased about this deal."
"Wait. What?" He raised an eyebrow at my informal outburst. "I mean, could you elaborate?"
"We are planning to open a new camp in another country. Your father has assured me that you are quick to learn new languages." Well, that's a fucking lie.
"May I ask when this starts?"
"We'll be moving you tomorrow. Unfortunately, neither Castle nor Trigger will be accompanying you."
"Then-"
"You'll be under the strict supervision of a few of our counselors. When the camp is officially established, you will be given the opportunity to select your own assistant." Ah-ha! I'm a child that needs to be babysitted now.
Silence filled the room as baldy stared at me. Back off you creepy old man.
"Well?"
"Thank you for this opportunity sir but-"
"No buts! Your father has already signed the necessary paperwork since you're still under his care. Please come to my office tomorrow at seven." Why the fuck did you even ask then?
"Thank you, sir." I got up to leave, even though I hadn't been excused.
"Remember, be careful of who you trust-" I shut the door behind me, but his words still carried through. "They may be your downfall."
Ignoring his comment, I played the conversation back through my head.
There is no way in hell they're shipping me off to another country. I want out of this hell hole.
My thoughts blurred together as I made my way to Trigger's room. Before I even opened the door, the words were already spilling out.
"We need to leave. Now." I looked at the group before me, anxiety filling my head. What if they say no? I'll just be forgotten.
"What are you talking about?" Stephanie spoke up first, though it took me a moment to recognize her. Oh, she changed her hair. Good. The last thing we need is to be caught because of it.
"Min?" Oh my god. I turned to the voice. There, in Trigger's bed, was the one and only Santiago Guzman, alive. Or at least more alive than when I saw him last. Without a second thought, I crossed the room, only to be engulfed in his hug.
"Oh my god. You're alive. You're alive. You're alive..." I trailed off.
"I knew you didn't betray us." His voice resonated in my ears. It had been so long. I missed you so much. There were tears, of course, but I was too preoccupied to care.
"Ahem." Castle made some sort of choking noise behind me, causing my face to flush. I must look so stupid. "If you're done with your little soap opera, mind telling us why we have to leave now? Or is that not important anymore?"
Oh yeah. I forgot about that. Sitting next to Santiago, I tried to explain everything hastily.
There was silence for a moment before Trigger stood, squaring her shoulders.
"You four will leave at midnight." Four? Then-
"What about you?" Castle had also gotten up, face-to-face with her girlfriend.
"I'm staying. I'm probably the only one that can keep baldy and the guards distracted long enough." The woman raised an eyebrow as Castle towered over her.
"No way in hell. We're both leaving."
"I can't, Bruce."
"You fucking promised me-" By now, the taller woman had her hands on the other's shoulders.
"Someone needs to stay behind."
"Then I'm staying, too."
"No! You have to go with them!"
"Like hell." Castle pulled her knife out of her pocket. "I will cut off my leg if you tell me to leave you behind again." So you're gonna complain about San and I being a soap opera but then pull this shit.
"Why are you so difficult?"
"Because I love you. Duh."
"We'll both make it out, okay?" The taller of the two initiated the kiss, and I promptly turned away.
"Yo, what the fuck. Castle, you're a hypocrite." The woman in question turned to me, obviously annoyed I had spoiled the moment.
"So are we going to plan, or not?" Santiago's voice startled me. It feels like it's been years.
In response, Castle got up and began putting things into small bags. The items ranged from granola bars to a sewing kit to a pack of tissues. Eventually, Trigger went over the details of our escape with Steph, San, and I. Maybe if we had gotten her help the first time, we wouldn't be in this situation.
Soon enough, it was time for the three of us to ditch. Castle shoved the bags and a map into our hands, muttering to herself.
"Take this, too." Trigger held out a folder to me. "Whatever you do, do not lose it." I took it, not even glancing through the pages.
"Thank you guys so much." Steph was exchanging last words with Trigger before our trio exited the room.
I nodded to Castle, not quite sure how to show my gratitude.
"Don't worry, we'll be right behind you." Trigger patted my shoulder with a smile. Castle grinned, offering me a wink.
"First we just need to cause some trouble."
