(08) alive
Minhyuk Park:
The test was today, and I couldn't give less of a shit. Castle had given me some sort of "pep talk" if you could call it that.
"Just so you know, if you fail, it looks bad on us too."
"Aight, whatever."
"Seriously, my reputation is on the line here." It was hard to tell when Castle was joking since she had almost the same expression every day.
"Okay, okay, I got it."
"Hey, are you paying attention? I'm going to snap your neck." There was some blonde dude walking next to me. Instead of making a move, he thought it was a wise decision to give me his entire life story as the sun beat down on our backs. Note to self, refrain from wearing jackets during the summer, especially outside. I tied my hair back, moving the dark bangs away from my face. I need to cut this soon.
"Not particularly, are you done talking?" The fight technically hadn't started since we were still on our way to some building. Trigger affectionately called it hell's arena. It had been set up that the two of us would be entering the "arena" from opposing sides at the same time. I was lead to the far side of the building, before entering a closed-off hallway. Dark walls seemed to close in on me, and water droplets fell at random. The air was much cooler, although the musky smell was enough to make me gag.
"-against Minhyuk Park, representative of Hayan!" Oh shit, guess that's my cue. I entered the room to be met by a blinding light from above. The walls were angled outwards, with a square cut out in the ceiling. What the flying fuck is this? Cameras were on every wall, following our movements. Across from me was the entitled dumbass from earlier with a smug grin.
"Begin!" The boy came barreling toward me as I stepped to the side, grabbing his collar. Ew, it's sweaty. With a grunt, I flipped him over me, slamming his face into the ground. He was much heavier than Castle, causing me to lose my balance before he kicked the back of my knee. Shit! This time, I was on my back, staring at the sky above me, only to be rudely interrupted by his smug green eyes. My skull was ringing and my eyes watered, but his expression was enough to piss me off. How dare you stand above me?
"Get out of my way." Without hesitation, I jabbed my fingers into his eyes. Was that against the rules?
"You bitch!" The boy sunk to his knees, trying to recover. "No wonder your dad disowned you!"
Aight, you're dead meat. Whoever is watching doesn't need to know that.
Grabbing the boy's ashy blonde hair, I rammed his forehead into my knee over and over. At first, he was flailing around like he was drowning, before he started desperately grappling for my arm. His nails dug into my sleeve, quite possibly leaving holes. Finally, the boy fell from my grasp, nose bloody and broken. I sighed when I saw my now filthy jeans. The ground would've been a cleaner choice. A groan from the ground caught my attention. I nudged the boy's body with my foot, curious. His chest rose and fell, informing me that he was still alive. What a shame. I figured I ought to take a page out of Castle's book, so I ground my heel into the boy's hand. A satisfying crunch followed. Not my fault he was weak.
"And that short display brings us to the end!" Somehow, the voice was familiar. Watching a guard haul the body away, I was escorted out of the room, back towards the main building.
"Wow, someone's a copy cat!" Castle's voice came from my right, so I looked over and grinned.
"Whatever. You were all mY RePutAtIon Is oN tHe LiNE earlier." I imitated her voice, causing her to chuckle and whack the back of my head. The impact made my head throb. I reached up to touch my head, recalling how I had landed flat on my back just minutes ago. Feeling something sticky, I brought my hand back to view. Blood. Lovely.
"Ew. We'll get you a bandage later." Castle mimicked my thoughts, wiping her hand on my jacket.
"Hey-"
"Ooh, you get to figure out your name now!" Hmm what would be a good name?
"Minhyuk you've got a visitor." Trigger gave me a hi-five before guiding me to the bald man's office.
"You might want to wash your hand," I said, upon realizing that I hadn't wiped my hand off.
"Seriously? Now I literally have your blood on my hands." Trigger shook her head before leaving me in front of a familiar door. I knocked on the door before entering, not in the mood to wait for a response.
As I entered, I realized my mistake. A man who was most certainly not bald sat behind the desk. A man who was not amused by my antics. A man who I definitely wanted to avoid.
Fuck.
"Hello, Minhyuk." My father faced me, eyes cold.
"Father." Out of habit, I bowed. Oh come on, where's your fucking pride?
"You are not my son at the moment." The man placed his hand on the desk, covering whatever papers he had been looking at. "Additionally, I have a proposition for you. If you are able to gain an admirable position, you will be re-accepted into our family, and we'll overlook your-"
The disdain on his face made his thoughts very clear.
"The fact I'm gay."
"Yes, that." The man grimaced, letting me know how uncomfortable he was. Go fuck yourself.
"I'll pass." You dumb bitch. He's going to fucking kill you.
"Ah, I will assume that you don't care what happens to," he paused with a smirk, "what was his name? Santi? Sago?"
Wait, what?
"Santiago's alive?" Technically I already knew that given the familiar hands in the cafeteria, but I knew better than to hope it was more than a figment of my imagination.
"Let me lay this out for you. You prove yourself, and you both live." I frowned, not missing how he neglected to answer my question.
"Bold of you to assume that I care whether I'm dead or not." Dumbass
"Where did your mother and I go wrong? How are you so different from your brother?"
"I dunno, aren't you supposed to know everything?"
"Do we have a deal?"
"Whatever." I was done with this man. Did he really have to compare me to Minseok again? Whatever I was remotely successful in, my brother beat me ten times over. It was better before. Let me rewind to when I was happy.
"Do not disappoint me."
