Chapter Five/Infiltrator
A/N I hope that you like it
"Well, this gig's getting interesting," The villainess that they were fighting against said.
Nyx, her name apparently was. Jade had to appreciate her outfit. Black traditional Vietnamese clothing with white stars, sparkly navy blue hair and combat boots of the same. She wore her thick hair up in a bun, and she wore a simple sparkly navy domino mask. Jade really liked it. Was kind of jealous, actually. But, whatever. Now wasn't the time.
Jade wanted to hurry up and get back home. She was so happy when Roy showed up at the cave with the mission of protecting Dr. Roquette from the Shadows while she deactivated their new weapon and joined the Team.
As Nyx easily used her katana to block Jade's sais, she added, "Almost too interesting." It sounded almost as if she was figuring something out. There was some more fighting, and Nyx retreated, but they all knew that it was only temporarily.
About an hour later, they got attacked by Black Spider and Hook along with Nyx. After realizing that Miss Martian was pretending to be Dr. Roquette, Nyx left to find the real scientist. "I've got the leader!" Jade called through the mind link, running after her. "Take the rest down!"
She caught up to Nyx briefly, and a quick fight followed. Nyx won, she hit a nerve in the back of Jade's neck in a way that caused Jade to pass out. Nyx made her way to the restaurant where Aqualad and Roquette were.
When she got there, she pulled out a crossbow and shot several small bolts loaded with poison at Aqualad. They fought. "Poison slowing you down?" Nyx asked.
"Jellyfish toxin. I'm largely immune."
"Largely." They continued to fight. Finally Nyx had had enough. "Let's test the limit of your jellyfish immunity, shall we?" She shot more bolts at him and he collapsed. "There. Limit tested."
"Hey, Doctor," Nyx said, unsheathing her katana. "I'm here for my appointment."
Roquette backed up. Nyx easily knocked her down and pointed her sword at the other woman. Nyx glanced at the computer where the scientist had been working. The program finished downloading.
"Well, I guess that's done. Eliminating the reason for your elimination. Though not the entertainment value." She was so calm, so casual about it that it was terrifying. She pulled her sword back and sheathed it. "Fortunately for you, my orders are clear. You live to program another day. After all, the Shadows may find another use for you." Nyx walked out of the door, and was immediately blasted to the ground with one of Jade's explosives.
"Do not move a muscle," Jade said, pointing one of her sais at Nyx. The villainess pulled a couple of makeup wipes from her belt and runs them over her hair, revealing its true blonde color. She pulled herself to her feet and slowly turned around, her face visible as her mask was on the ground.
"Wow," The woman, girl really, she couldn't have been only older than fifteen, maybe sixteen, said cooly. "I am completely at your mercy."
Jade's eyes widened. Memories flooded her. "You," She whispered.
Artemis smiled. "Me. Now, I guess you'll let your little hero friends interrogate me. Wonder if you're willing to risk them finding out everything I know."
"They already know about-"
Artemis continued speaking. "I know that they already know about Mom and Dad, but do they know about me? Cuz I don't think that they do. The League is known for taking children out of abusive homes. I was never taken from Dad, which implies that you never told them about me.
"Why? If I had to guess, you were too ashamed, too embarrassed to admit that you were selfish enough to leave your eight year old baby sister alone in the hands of your abuser. Then, you didn't tell them for so long, that it would be even worse for you when you told them about me. So, you just never did. Instead, you left me to rot in that h***hole of a home, with no one who loved or cared about me. Alone, with that b****** a** of a father," Artemis snorted. "Some hero."
Guilt washed over Jade. "Alice, you know I had to-"
"No, you didn't have to. You just told yourself that you had to and that you had to leave me behind cuz it made you feel better. You left me alone with him. You're the reason that I turned into this," Artemis gestured to herself. "It's your fault. It's all your fault. And I don't think that your friends would appreciate you keeping secrets from them. So, as you were always so fond of saying, like the Cheshire Cat, I'll just disappear." She dropped a smoke bomb. "Two last things. One) Mom's back, if you care. Notice that I was there when she got back. Two) Little girl, green day." She backed into the smoke and vanished.
Jade stood there in shocked silence as her friends came over to her. "Where's Nyx?" Miss M asked.
"She-She got away," Jade said still upset about the encounter with her younger sister.
"From you?" Kid Flash said, surprised.
"Did you see her face?" Aqualad asked.
"It was dark," Jade said, avoiding truly answering the question.
"It is alright."
"Yeah, I'd hate to see my Earth sister upset about something," The martian said with a smile.
Jade thought about her own sister and the things that she had discovered tonight.
That night, as she walked home with her adoptive parents and Roy, Jade wanted nothing more than to sleep and figure out what her sister meant by little girl, green day. This would be a long night.
