The deacon called some young guys over and he began to introduce them.
"This is Omar Jackson, he's the sound tech."
Ice Cube as Omar Jackson
"Nice to meet you Rev," He shook my hand.
"Nice to meet you too."
"This is Antonio Gates the assistant pastor."
DJ Yella as Antonio Gates
"Oh yea I met him at the meeting we had. Nice to meet you again Mr. Gates." I shook his hand firmly.
"Nice to finally have you here Reverend DuWright. I can't wait to see what the future holds with you as our new leader." He smiled.
A younger gentleman walked up and Sean put his hand on his shoulder. He looked pretty young, like about nineteen.
"This is Lorenzo Jones, he's the drummer for the church."
MC Ren as Lorenzo Jones
"Nice to meet you pastor." We shook hands.
"Nice to meet you too young man. I'm happy to see our youth using their talents for the Lord. There's no better way to use em'."
"Thank you pastor. I've been playing since I can remember. But uh, you look young yourself."
"Yea." I chuckled as I began, "I am young. But the Lord has servants of all ages. And when he calls you to service you better listen. Even when others may think you may be too young or you may not be qualified for the job."
"I'll keep that in mind. Thank you pastor." He nodded at me before heading to get in line to grab a plate.
Monday Evening January 13th, 1985

The air in the room was thick as we all sat around the table that stretched to half the conference room. For the past hour and a half members of the church have been telling me all of the things that need to be fixed, how the church is in a hole, and arguing over nonsense. My head is starting to pound as two members argue about how we should raise money for repairs in the church.
"Brother James I just don't think that's gonna work. I really think a fundraiser is more sensible. I mean we could have a couple of the ladies in the church to bake some things and we can sell them and use the money for repairs." Said one lady
"Sister Carla just how many pies you think it's gonna take to get enough money for the repairs huh?" Brother James snapped back sarcastically
"Hmm." Sister Carla hummed as she gazed up towards the ceiling thinking of an answer, "maybe three hundred pies or so."
"And let's say we sell the pies for three dollars a pie. So that's three times three hundred. Which is uhh." Brother James dragged the last word trying to calculate the equation we knew he didn't know the answer to.
"Nine hundred dollars, exactly." Deacon Sean interrupted him
"Ah yes I was about to say that." Deacon Sean rolled his eyes in annoyance
"Well that's a lot of money." Sister Carla smiled at the idea
"But that's still not enough, plus we have to pay for all the ingredients for the pies and also the ladies for cooking them." Brother James shot back
"They should do it for free. They shouldn't want to be paid for doing God's work." Sister Carla glared angrily at brother James
I can't take this any longer, "Hey hey, let's not argue ok." I spoke up
"How about we take a vote on both ideas ok." I suggested
"Fine, let's do it then." Brother James agreed
"Ok all in favor of brother James's idea, raise a hand." Majority of the hands went up
"Ok now all in favor of sister Carla's idea to raise a hand." Embarrassingly only two hands went up
"Ha, that settles it then. We'll do my idea then." Smiled brother James
"You don't have to gloat about it brother James, that's ungodly."
Just when I thought we were almost through with this meeting another argument starts up. It's gonna be a long night.

I start to worry as I look at the clock above the fridge. Eric should've been home by now. The meeting was only supposed to last two hours but it's been four since he left. I hope he didn't get into an accident or I hope someone from his past didn't try and get revenge for something he might've done years ago.
I shake my thoughts off as I begin to pray silently in my head as I rock my son to sleep. I need to think positive and not allow myself to drown in all the negative thoughts. Eric will be ok....Eric is ok, I know God will keep him safe. Still the negative thoughts linger on. We all know that there is a possibility of old skeletons coming back to get revenge for whatever reason. Eric has wronged a lot of people in his past but he assured me before we got married that they were all dealt with and handled. I just hope that he's ok.

I can't believe a two hour meeting went over five hours, and most of it was spent arguing. My head is killing me and my stomach is eating itself up. I twisted the key to the front door and opened it to a dark house only dimly lit by the light over the stove. I could faintly smell the food my wife had cooked for dinner, and I'm sure there's a plate waiting for me inside the oven. I quietly walked down the hall and slowly peaked my head into my son's room. I tiptoed in until I reached his crib. I leaned down placing a soft kiss on his forehead.
He was the main reason I decided to turn my life around. I didn't wanna end up dead or in jail and my wife out here being a single mother and some other ni- man raising my son when I can be here doing it myself. I planted another kiss on his forehead before tiptoeing out. I made my way through our small two bedroom house, quietly reaching the master bedroom. I open the door to see my wife asleep, only her hair sticking out from under the covers.
I slowly walked over to her side of the bed, leaning down to give her a peck on the cheek.
"You're home!" She popped up pulling me into a tight hug
"Mmhmm." I hummed embracing her
"I was so worried about you, I had to drink some chamomile to calm my nerves." She exclaimed as she planted kisses all over my face
"I'm good girl, nothing happened." I reassured her
"What took you so long?" She turned on the lamp before sitting up in bed
"They were arguing over the church being in a hole and how it needs repairs and ways we can raise money for the repairs." I let out a sigh and shook my head
"Typically church folk." She chuckled
"Hey, I cooked your favorite. It's in the oven waitin on you."
I rubbed my hands together and licked my lips. "Mmhmm I can't wait to fu- I mean tear it up bae." She playfully popped my mouth for almost slipping a curse word
"You need to keep working on that mouth Mr.DuWright. Before you slip up in church." She warned me
"Mmhmm I hear you."
