Chapter XIV
"It figures," Calypso says, "As soon as I get off of one island, i get stuck on another one!"
Leo was trying to put Festus back together while everyone else was collecting supplies. Percy was trying to find some fresh water for everyone to drink. He found a little pond in the middle of the island, so he used his powers to gathered some in a sphere. He carried it back to the rest of his friends but stopped when he saw they all had water bottles in their hands. Leo handed Percy one and asked "Dude, what is that in your hands?"
"Wha..." Percy dropped the water sphere in his hands out of embarrassment. "Where did you get water bottles from?" Percy said, with a slight anger.
"I brought them," said Calypso. "I also brought some sandwiches if you want."
"Why did you bring all of this stuff? And why did nobody tell me before i went through the trouble of getting water?"
"I am pretty much goddess of the islands, and I have been stuck on an island for thousands of years. I never leave unprepared in case of situations like this. I would hate to be stuck on an island again, but this time, without anything."
"Okay..." Percy said. "But how come no one told me about the food and water before I wasted my time getting water."
"I thought it would be funny." Calypso said, smiling.
"That's fair I guess." Percy said with a half-hearted smile. He looked over at everyone scattering the island, trying to set up a camp for tonight. "Those invisible servants would come in handy right now."
"For the first time, i actually can say i miss them. They would be better than the food that we stored in Leo's tool belt." Calypso said sarcastically.
"I can still hear you! I am only like 10 feet away! And I will have you know, I actually like my tool belt food!" Leo shouted from the distance.
Calypso laughed.
The camp was set up just in time for dusk. Everyone was pretty much exhausted from setting up camp and thinking of how to leave this island, so everyone fell asleep instantly. Percy, however, stayed awake. He pulled the purple leaved branch out of his pocket and studied it closely. He whispered to it, "I am not giving up on you. Annabeth." He sat there with the branch in his hand for a long time, trying to imagine that Annabeth was at his side, and he didn't have a small branch of death to count down the moments of her life. He looked at the moon resting on the sea. The sea. That's it! Percy thought. Percy should have thought of it sooner, his dad.
Percy stood up and started talking to the sea. "Hey, dad, it's me, Percy. I really need your help right now. Annabeth, my girlfriend, is in serious trouble and might only have a few days to live. I really need you right now. Please dad, do something." Percy looked out at the sea. It was still the calm silent sea, no sign from his dad anywhere. "Please."
There was still no answer. The only thing that changed was the branch that use to have seven purple leaves, now held six. Percy felt a wave of disappointment roll over him. As he was about to walk back to the campsite, he heard a familiar voice. "That's sweet how much you two care about each other"
Not his dad's, but "Aphrodite?"
"Yes, it's me. I have been watching you for the past few days and out of all honesty, I want to help you." Aphrodite said.
"You, help me?" Percy said in shock.
"Yes, i am a very helpful person. You act as though i have never done anything for you! Well, anyways, I want to help you because you two are such a perfect couple, and I have been watching you guys for the past few days and it, it is so sad what happened." Aphrodite snapped her fingers and a tissue box appeared. She wiped tears away from her eyes. "I enjoy watching you two's love story more than anyone else. So, if something were to happen to her, it pretty much would be like canceling my favorite T.V. show."
"Thanks." Percy said, not actually meaning it, and feeling a little annoyed with Aphrodite.
"Okay, so to the point, I am going to get you off of this island." Percy's eyes widened. "And, not just that, but I am going to give you my gift, to show it was me who is helping you."
"Your gift?" Percy asked, confused.
"That's right! And I do have to say, you look mighty dashing with it."
"What are you talking about... wait... what the hades?!" Percy looked down and saw that his outfit had changed. Everything looked like it had shrunk three sizes. He was wearing a really tight, baby blue, button up shirt. On top of that is what seemed like an even tighter gray vest. But that wasn't the worst part. He had on what looked like a pair of khakis that had underwent plastic surgery. They were so tight, he didn't even know if he should call them khakis.
Percy looked at Aphrodite with a furious glare. "How do clothes three sizes too small help me get off this island."
"Oh honey, they don't. That yacht over there," she said giddily, pointing over to a massive, silvery boat next to the remains of Festus. "That will. The clothes are kind of like self advertising for me. You wear them, and the gods will know that it was me who helped you."
"Why would you want the gods to know it was you who helped us... and wait..." Percy rubbed his eyes. "Am i wearing eyeliner!"
"Obviously, do you think i would give you that outfit without some style to go with it? And the reason i want the gods to know i am helping you is because almost everyone of the gods have helped their kids like, a lot, and since you are with Piper, it will look like I do care about my kids. Which i do, i just want everyone else to know that i do. Hmm... maybe i should give Piper my gift too."
"I think she is fine without it."
"Are you sure? She did seem happy with it the last time." Lightning striked right behind Aphrodite. "Okay! I am coming!" She shouted at the sky. "Good luck!"
Just like that, she disappeared.
