Chapter VI

In his dream, he was back home, in his pool. Annabeth was laying down in a lounge chair, in a white dress, reading a book. Something looked different about her. She always looks beautiful, but this time, she looked too beautiful to even put in words. Her skin was perfect, no scars or cuts. Her hair was flawless, no frizz. Everything looked different about her. She set down her book and began to walk towards him. She knelt in front of the pool and cupped her hand around Percy's face. He leaned in to kiss her but she shook her head. She wiped a tear from her eye and she put her lips to his ears. "I love you." she whispered in his ear.

When he opened his eyes, she was gone. The dream shifted. He was standing on top of a mountain. He had no armour on him. He reached in his pocket for Riptide, but Riptide was gone. "How is this even possible!?!?" Percy shouted.

"Ah yes, Son Of Poseidon." Boomed a deep voice, but the voice was coming from inside of his head. "You will learn soon enough. In life there is never a happy ending. You will die soon son of the sea god, and when your time comes, the thing that you need most will be stolen from you. Your greatest strength is going to be the cause of your death."

"What is that suppose to mean?!?"

The voice boomed with laughter inside of his head. "Why don't you wake up and find out?"

Leo was hovering over him. "Guys, he is okay." But something in his voice sounded empty, and kinda sad. It was obvious he had been crying. Then Jason walked in the room with Piper repeatably saying "It's all my fault, if I would have been paying attention..."

Percy's heart sank when he remembered the dream. Annabeth in the all-white dress, and he perfect hair and skin. The thing you need most will be stolen from you, the voice had said...
"No," Percy whispered, immediately he asked Leo, "Where is Annabeth?" That made Piper sob more. No one answered. Percy got up from the bed and ran around the clinic looking for her.

"ANNABETH!!!" Percy called. "ANNABETH!!!" he called for her over and over again. Jason walked over to him. He tried to put his arms around him but Percy pushed him away. "She isn't dead. She can't be."

Jason hesitated. "She isn't dead, but she can't be healed. She might only have three days left, at most, in her. I am so sorry."

Some part of Percy was relieved that she was alive, but every other part of him wanted to just disintegrate into nothing. "I need to see her. Now."

"They said she-"

"Jason, you will take me to see her or Gods help me-"

"Fourth door to the left, second hallway..."

Percy ran as fast as he could, when he finally reached Annabeth's room he sobbed when he saw how badly wounded she was. She looked like she was already dead. She had a huge wound in her stomach the size of his fist. He slid down the door and cried into his knees. I should have been there for her. This is all my fault, Percy thought, I hate myself. I hate myself. It should have been me, she doesn't deserve this.

When Percy finally stopped crying he went in. He couldn't cry in front of her like this. He needed to be strong for her, to give her some sort of confidence.
She was asleep when he walked in. He sat down on the chair next to the bed and took her hand in his hands. He held her hand to his lips and kissed it. "I love you Annabeth." He paused, studying Annabeth's color drained face. She looked the way she did in Tartarus. When they had almost all of their life source drained from them.

"Gods, there has to be a word bigger than love. What I feel for you can't even be partly covered by the word love." She was still sleeping. "You will make it through this, if anyone can, it would be you. You are the strongest person I know. When I'm not with you I am weaker. You make me strong, Annabeth."
He paused to try to contain his sobs. "When I dove into the River Styx, Nico told me that I had to think of one thing that would keep me connected to the human world. I didn't think of my mom or Grover or anyone else, I thought of you. I was sinking and then you appeared on a boat and told me to take your hand, and every quest, or dangerous thing I have ever done, I thought of you to give me inspiration. I..I need you-"

"Okay, Seaweed Brain, I love you too." Annabeth said, in a dry crackly voice.

"Annabeth.. I am so sorry, Annabeth." Annabeth put her hand on his face.

"What are you sorry about, Percy? You saved the camp. That whirlpool... I didn't know you could do something like that... that was amazing. And Percy, I don't know if I can make it through this, bu...but I will try, I will try for you. Never separating, never again, remember?"

"I am never leaving you Annabeth, and you aren't leaving me. We are a team." Percy kissed her hand. "Have I told you that I love you?"

Annabeth laughed softly. "Many times. But it wouldn't hurt to say it a few more times."

"I love you."

"I love you, too." Annabeth grimaced in pain as she slid over in her bed. She patted to the empty area on the bed, gesturing Percy to lay next to her. He laid down next to her and wrapped his arms around her. She laid her head on his chest and almost immediately fell asleep. Percy kissed the top of her head. "Never separating." he whispered "Never again." He fell asleep, with Annabeth in his arms.
