Incompetence

The next day I went to U.N.I.T to return the missing files. I walked up to the front desk and waited for the attendant to come back. I took a look at the papers hung up on the announcement board. There was a paper with bold letters that caught my attention. It said something about a party today.
"I should crash that," I said to myself, "I technically am still a part of the agency."
The attendant returned to the front desk and gave me a strange look, "Who are you and what is your affiliation with U.N.I.T?"
"You all forgot me so quick," I laughed, "I'm here to return some files."
She took the papers and her eyes went wide, "How did you get ahold of these?"
"I worked here a year ago, how could you forget? I even know your name, Janet."
"I'm going to need to see your badge."
"I don't have my badge with me, but I do have a photo ID." I handed over my drivers license.
She took a look at my name and typed some things into her computer, "There is no account of you ever working here."
"Ugh, Kate and her security measures. I'll be right back."
I whipped out my Indigo Device and teleported back to my house. I rummaged through my closet and retrieved my fez again.
I teleported back to see a flabbergasted Janet.
"Are you ok?" I asked.
She just sat there with her jaw practically touching the floor.
I pulled my badge out of my fez, "Here's my badge."
She just sat there, shocked.
"Ugh, I hate it when that happens," I muttered.
I plopped the fez on my head and I walked through the entrance to the offices. I was immediately stopped by a rather bulky man.
"Excuse me, I need to get through here," I said as politely as I could.
"You can't go any further, Ma'am, Unless you have qualifications," the burly man responded.
I showed him my badge.
"This identification is invalid."
"What? Why does everyone say that?"
"This badge was forged."
I gave him a sideways look, "Are you questioning my judgement, sir?"
"I need to take you into custody, ma'am."
"Ugh. Take me to the director and we can clear this up."
"No, I need to take you into custody." He grabbed my arm.
"Fine, I'll go with you."
He lead me to the interrogation room and sat me down, "Don't try anything."
He left the room and locked the door.
I took a look at the camera in the corner and gave it an angry look, "You really messed up this time, Kate!"
I walked over to the two way mirror and nocked on it with both hands for quite some time before someone came in.
"Hello, ma'am, I understand you wanted to speak with the director," said the person.
I turned to see Juan again, "Hello, Juan. There seems to have been a misunderstanding."
He did a double take, "Fez?"
"Who'd you think I was, some weirdo who wears a fez in public?"
"I just didn't expect to see you here."
"Well, I came back to return some files."
"I'll get you to Kate, I'm sure she'll take care of this."
"Please do, I need to know what's going on here."
"Come with me, Fez," he opened up the door for me.
"Thank you for understanding my current situation, Juan."
Juan led me to the director's office and knocked on the door.
The director opened up the door, "I'm busy Juan," she looked over at me, "Who's this?"
I face palmed, "You know, this is not the day to ask that question, Kate."
"Who are you and how do you know me?"
Juan chimed in, "This is Fez, she worked here a year or two ago."
Kate cocked her head, "I've never had an agent named Fez."
I took her by the shoulders and looked into her eyes.
She was very surprised by my actions, "Well you could take me on a date first."
"Shut up, I'm looking for traces of manipulation," I retorted.
Her eyes were riddled with floaters.
"Do you rub your eyes often, Kate?" I asked.
"No, I don't ever rub them," she replied.
I let go of her shoulders, "Your mind has been erased of any memory of me. Do you have an agent by the name of Bow Tie?"
She racked her brain for an answer, "No, I don't have an agent by that name."
"These Lamins are really getting clever."
"Lamins? What are those?"
All the puzzle pieces clicked together in my mind, "Dammit Hugo! Juan, were you in the field during the interrogation of Hugo?"
He paused for a moment, "Yeah, yeah I was."
"Were you the only one in the field?"
"Yeah, all the rest of the field agents were here for the party."
"Hugo spiked the punch," I deduced, "Kate, who was interrogating Hugo?"
Kate gave me a blank stare "There wasn't anyone doing interrogations yesterday."
"I'm willing to bet you that Hugo subdued one of the agents and replaced him or her. Has anyone been acting strange lately?"
Juan looked like he just saw a ghost, "Phil has been acting weird since the party, I caught him deleting some files off of his computer. He usually doesn't do that until he goes home. He also has this deformed nose now, I just assumed he broke it."
"They don't make them as sharp as you used to. Where did you last see him?"
"He was in the data storage units in the vault."
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!"
I ran to the stairwell and practically flew down the stairs to the vault. I entered the emergency entrance code and ran inside. The alarms wailed and red lights flashed throughout the building alerting the rest of the staff of the emergency. I could hear combat boots marching to the rescue, those guys are fast for the amount of armor they wear. I got down to the server room, and searched through all the aisles looking for Phil. I stopped at the second to last aisle, where I found fat man Hugo.
"Hello Hugo, don't you know it's rude to erase people from existence? Queen Nefertiti would not approve," I said as I walked closer.
I turned around quickly with a shocked look on his face, "H-how did you get in?"
"Not everybody drinks the punch at parties, Hugo."
He pulled a little frog out of his pocket and scolded it, "Why did you not spike the water, too?"
The little frog shrugged his shoulders, if that is even possible for a frog.
"Can I talk to the little guy? I feel like I've been left out of this conversation."
"No, you have to let me complete my work!" He shouted.
"I will, but I'm not sure about the security guards," the marching feet came closer, "That should be them now. Either you run or I have my friends beat the life out of you. Which do you choose?"
"You haven't seen the last of me, Fez!"
"I know, you are unbelievably clingy. No need to tell me twice."
The guards flowed from the corridors and filled up the entire server room save for the small aisle Hugo and I were having our standoff in. They all pointed their guns down the aisle providing no escape for me or Hugo.
In a sudden panic, Hugo threw his little frog at me and turned to shadow. I caught the tiny frog in my gloved hand and turned to the soldiers.
"You guys are using rubber bullets, right?" I asked nervously.
One of the guards came forward and said, "No, when the alarm is activated we must take violent action."
I gave the guard a disappointed look, "In the server room, where you keep all of your data."
He hesitated, "We need to eliminate any threat to the servers."
"By threatening your servers," I added, "This is why we use common sense, soldier. I suggest you search the rest of the building for Hugo, he musn't have gotten far."
"Since when did you command my squad?" He snapped.
"Since I was the only person who could restore your files," I handed him the papers I'd been carrying around all day and left the room.
"What are these for?" I heard from the corridor.
"I have no Idea," I shouted back.
I just went home after that, I need to restore those files. They will no doubt have lots of passive aggressive comments.
