Chapter 10

The sun was setting over the Eterna forest. A dull moon was casting long ominous shadows throughout the woods. Ally crept past towering trees and mossy rocks. Her nerves racked themselves violently and she struggled to stay calm in the spooky forest.

She'd got lost a while ago. The path had ended, and she didn't know which way to go and now; She should've set up camp for the night. She should've lay down to rest, but she didn't. She kept walking. Occasionally a bird Pokémon would caw in the distance and she would jump out of her skin. She had to find a way out of this forest. If only Kellyn was here. He'd be able to get out no problem.

"Ally!"

She jumped sharply, but then slowly turned towards the voice. That boyish smile, messy hair and strong voice, it was him. It was Kellyn. He stood a short distance away. He was waving happily, and she ran towards him.

Laughing, he turned and ran away from her. The smile fell from her face and she called out desperately. "Kellyn, wait!"

He stopped, but only long enough to beckon to her. "Come on, Ally! We're almost there!"

Ally ran as fast as she could, but she couldn't catch him. Racing through the forest, tree branches scratched and tore at her face. She ignored the pain and kept running. Turning the corner around a dense thicket of trees she stopped. Before her stood a large mansion. It looked old and run down, but the lights were on inside and Kellyn waved to her from by the front door.

He waved his hand, signalling for her to follow. He pushed the front doors open. Even from here Ally could hear the laughter and see the light coming from the mansion. Kellyn waved one last time before disappearing inside.

Hesitantly, she approached the mansion. She grabbed the doorknob and stepped in through the grand doors. Inside the mansion was empty, dark, and quiet. She frowned. It had changed completely from only a second ago.

She closed the doors and all the lights sprung on again. Slowly, she opened the door. The lights were off. The house was silent. Ally started to back away from the mansion, but a voice called out to her.

"Ally! Don't go."

Peeking back inside one last time she saw Kellyn. He was smiling sadly and holding his hand out towards her.

"Ally, whatever I did, I'm sorry. Please, come here. Come to me," he whispered dreamily.

Ally opened the door wider and stepped inside the mansion. Her arms trembling, she shook her head, desperate to feel safe. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have left you like that." The thought had been nagging at her since she first entered the forest.

The door closed behind her. She heard didn't hear the lock softly click shut.

Kellyn just smiled at her and held his arms out wide. "It doesn't matter. I'm here now."

Ally smiled at him and slowly walked closer. Smiling brokenly, she whispered, "can we go now?"

Closing her eyes, she leant forwards to hug him, but where he'd been was only air. She stumbled but caught herself. Looking around, Kellyn was nowhere to be seen. Panic swelled up within her.

"Kellyn?" She called in a small voice.

The mansion was silent. Ally walked slowly backwards. She felt the door at her back. She turned the handle and pushed, but the door didn't open. Creepy girlish laughter echoed throughout the mansion.

Ally stopped tugging on the door and turned around. This place wasn't right. Lights flickered on all throughout the mansion, casting a dim, spooky glow over the old decor.

Ally took a deep breath, steeled her nerves and walked towards the middle of the room. This wasn't normal. Something had to be causing it. Slowing her breathing, she closed her eyes and reached out with her other senses. Her eyes were liars; she couldn't trust them. She listened closely. She didn't see the curious ghost Pokémon watching her. It floated closer and closer.

"Miz?" It asked curiously.

Hearing the Pokémon, she leapt towards it with a victorious shout.

"Got you!" She cried.

Ally passed right through the ghost type, crashing to the floor. The little Pokémon laughed at her.

Groaning, Ally rolled onto her back and looked up at the Pokémon. It was a Misdreavus. She glared at it for a second, but then she laughed. It started as a weak laugh but quickly became loud and hearty. Misdreavus laughed with her.

Ally stood and dusted herself off. "Did you do all this?"

"Mis-Mis!" Misdreavus cried happily.

"Well, thank you. Note my sarcasm."

"Miz!"

Ally sighed and shook her head. "Were you lonely?"

"Mis,"

Smiling, Ally sighed. "It's okay, I'm lonely too, but you already know that, don't you?"

Misdreavus giggled and looked at her strangely.

"So, you can create illusions of people, and even make them talk?" Ally asked, intrigued.

As if in answer the door to the mansion opened and in walked Kellyn. He smiled and ran over. "Ally! I finally found you!"

Ally laughed and looked at Misdreavus. "Wow. That is impressive, but the real Kellyn is much hotter. Not that I'd ever tell him that. And not that I'll ever get the chance." Her voice softening, her lips curled downwards. "I was terrible to him. I was trying to protect him. I didn't want him getting hurt because of me."

"What about getting hurt by you?" Accused Kellyn, wearing a cheeky grin.

Ally turned and screamed at him. "Shut up fake Kellyn!"

She swung a brutal fist and struck his nose. Kellyn jumped away, holding a hand over his face. He hopped around in pained circles, clutching his face and yelping.

"Ow!" Ally screamed. "My fist!"

She doubled over, shaking out her sore hand. After a moment she stood up and turned angrily to him. "What the hell, Kellyn?"

He just stared at her blankly. "How is this my fault?"

With one hand pinching the bridge of his nose he both looked and sounded ridiculous.

She glared at him. "You're supposed to be an illusion!" Ally's face fell as she realised what she'd just said to him. "Um, I, I was just, uh, sorry."

He sighed and shook his head dismissively. "Don't worry. I'll be fine."

Staring at the floor, Ally shuffled her feet guiltily. "No, I mean, I'm sorry."

Kellyn understood what she meant. He smiled at her, nodded, and said, "don't worry. I'll be fine."
