The Letter
[Nadwe's POV]
Its been about a year since Blaza disappeared. I still think about it a lot. It keeps repeating over and over in my head, but it never makes sense. Why would he leave? Where did he go? I never knew, and I never will.
The war is still going on. If anything, Blaza's disappearance only made it worse, as Socks began pinning the blame on Memey for it. I don't blame him, although I do think it was a very stupid decision.
Me personally? Im neutral towards this whole situation. I used to be strongly on Memey's side, but after a while I just wanted this to be over. Sure, I want justice for Wicktoria, but I also just...want everything to go back to normal...back to how it was...
Sometimes I wish-
"NADWE!"
huh?
[Nobody's POV]
Nadwe snapped out of his thinking and rushed downstairs to see what was going on. Memey was standing there with a bag of Honest Burgers™️
"Yeah??"
"I've been calling your name for 5 minutes! Come get your food before it gets cold."
"Sorry.."
Nadwe grabbed the bag and went up to eat them in his room, but was stopped halfway with another query from Memey.
"By the way, do you think you could go deliver something to Laff for me?"
Nadwe tilted his head a bit in disagreement.
"Laff? The guy who wants to like...kill me?"
"Just tell him I sent you. He knows better then to wreck relations with us."
"Ughhhh fine. Just don't blame me when I gotta stake through the heart!"
Memey sighed before handing Nadwe an ensealed envelope. Nadwe snatched it from him and made his way outside, still carrying his food.
Nadwe didn't often like being outside. It made his skin itch to be out in the sun. Luckily he wore a tophat and suit, which kept most of his skin out of the sun, even if it made him sweat like hell.
While making his way to Laff's, he passed by Blaza's house. The place, while being abandoned, was surprisingly well kept. It seems Socks had made an attempt to keep the place clean, just in case Blaza ever decided to return. Which was strange considering Nadwe had never seen Socks go inside the house before. Perhaps he only did it when nobody was around?
While examining the house, curiousity got the best of him, and he decided to enter. The inside was just as neat as the outside. Nadwe rummaged around a bit, maybe looking for something cool to steal, or maybe looking for any clues as to his disappearance. Either would be nice.
Instead, what he found only confused him more. A bitten apple. That hadn't browned at all. It was...fresh
He stood there for a moment, dumbfounded by his discovery, before the answer to his question quite literally showed up in front of him-
"Oh hey nad!"
Nad jumped back a bit to see- Muffin?!
"MUFFIN?! What are you doing here?"
Muffin was tossing around an orange, he seemed to have stolen it from Blaza's fridge.
"I live here now"
"Since when??"
"Since just now! Here, ya want?"
Muffin handed him the orange, but Nadwe smacked it out of his hand, to which Muffin caught it again with his other hand and continued tossing it around.
"You can't just break into some guy's house and steal his stuff"
"Pssh- and what are YOU doing?"
"....good point-"
"Hey, what's that letter you're holding?"
"Oh- this is for Laff!"
"Laff eh? what is it, a restraining order?"
"Psh, I wish..."
"You should open it, see what it is"
"What? No! I don't need Memey yellin at me for not following orders-"
"I mean- did he SAY to not look at it?"
"Welll...no..."
"Then that means we can!!"
Muffin snatched the letter from Nad
"HEY!!"
Nadwe desperately tried to grab it back, but Muffin wouldn't let him. He tore it open and looked at the message inside. When he read it, his smile immediately faded and Nadwe was quick to notice. Muffin stared at it for a while, seemingly upset. He sighed before gripping the piece of paper tightly, and tearing it in half.
"Wh- HEY!"
"Tell them you lost it."
"What? Wh-"
"Tell. Them. You. Lost. It."
"..."
Nadwe backed away, and left. He made his way back to Memey, where he was expectantly upset about him losing his very important letter. He eventually calmed down and Nadwe went back into his room.
Later that night
Nadwe was unable to get the thought of what happened out of his head. What did Muffin read that was so upsetting to him, and why did he go out of his way to destroy the letter?
Nadwe looked out his window. It was dark out and everyone was seemingly asleep. He decided that now was a better time then ever to head back and find out what Muffin was hiding from him.
He opened his window, and flew outside in his bat form. He flew all the way to the house, in which he looked inside through the window- Muffin was sound asleep in Blaza's bed. Luckily he was extremely tiny as a bat and was able to slip in through the crack under the door. He transformed back into his human form once inside, and ran over to the trash to pick up the crumpled letter. He grabbed the two halves of it and placed them on a table, fitting them back together as best he could.
When he was done, he took a big long look at what the letter said in full-
"Hello Laff,
I have took some time to think about your offer. And while I was originally hesitant about the terms, I must admit that this war has gone on for far longer than i'd like. So many people, people that I care about, have gotten hurt over this, and I just want it to be over. All you need is him, right? If that's what it takes to fix all this, then I suppose I'll abide. Just...don't hurt him, okay?"
...
Nadwe stood there in silence for a moment, trying to understand what any of this meant. Well- he KNEW what it meant, but he just didn't want to believe it.
He grabbed the papers and threw them back into the trash before making his way to Blaza's bedroom where Muffin was sleeping.
"Muffin...?"
Muffin woke up at the sound of his voice and looked rather confusedly at Nadwe.
"Nad...? What are you doin here...?"
Nad looked rather shaken up, and it didn't take Muffin too long to notice.
"Can I stay here tonight...?"
"...sure....I'll go sleep on the couch, you can lay in here if you want...."
"....thanks..."
Muffin got up and left to go sleep on the couch. Nadwe climbed into the bed and laid there for a while. He thought about the note, and the war. About everything really.
It was all so jumbled up in his mind that he couldn't make sense of it. He just wanted things to go back to how they were, back to when everyone got along and blaza was still here. And now everything is broken, and he doesn't even feel safe in his own home anymore.
He looked over to the window, and caught a glimpse of a shooting star. It made him smile for a few seconds before sighing and whispering something to himself.
"I wish everything would just go back to the way it was..."
He sighed once more before closing his eyes, and drifting off to sleep...
