~~~TV Review - The Mirren Show ~~~

We've been invested in the life of Mirren Shepherd ever since she made her initial appearance on the peripheries of The Owen Show, back in the noughties. When that show was cancelled eleven years ago, on what seemed like the cusp of Mirren becoming Owen Sullivan's potential love interest, we were understandably disappointed.

But this was nothing compared to the horror we felt when Owen made an adorable cameo in the earlier seasons of Mirren's own spin-off show, only to disappear abruptly from her life without a proper explanation. For many years, we weren't sure we could ever forgive him.

Fast forward a decade, and finally, we got that reunion we didn't know we needed, but had secretly always longed for. Mirren found herself on a tour of Scotland with Owen as her guide, and we all witnessed the delicious awkwardness as she was forced to interact with him. (And who can forget the mortifying bra-on-head incident? That really should win some sort of comedy BAFTA!) Owen eventually got his chance for redemption, and watching the pair fall for each other all over again really was one of the loveliest pieces of television we've viewed in a long time.

Since then, we've got to share in their happiness as Owen moved down to Glasgow (a decision he'd made before he met Mirren again, but a welcome one all the same) and they've fallen deeper in love. There's been sweetness, silliness, and even the occasional argument, but it's always been an absolute pleasure to watch.

The season finale, which aired last night, saw Mirren trying to help out with Owen's current bus tour to Oban, with hilarious results. And ended, happily, with Owen asking Mirren to move in with him. We were left on a cliffhanger, not quite knowing what her answer is . . . But we're fairly confident she's going to say yes.
