Prologue
Elloise Smith was your average teen girl. Well, if you call watching My Hero Academia a hundred times normal. One could say she was a bit of a fanatic.
Elloise was outcasted for her elementary to middle school years, but she had her best friend, Adelaide Miller. The two were inseparable. They were like two peas in a pod. They never argued, except on one subject.
While Elloise admired the League of Villains to an extent, Adelaide thought they were all hell spawn. Adelaide had mild respect for Endeavor, but Elloise thought that if she were to ever meet Endeavwhore she would kill him without a second thought. However, this was the only thing they ever argued about.
Elloise and Adelaide always dreamed of having quirks. Adelaide always wanted to be a hero, but Elloise dreamed of being a vigilante. No matter what their differences, the two wanted to save people.
In the eighth grade, there was a school shooting. Adelaide, staying true to her ideals, became a hero, but at a cost.
Elloise entered the ninth grade, alone. Once again, she was all alone in the world. How could her best friend leave her?
Elloise watched as the world moved on, but she stayed stuck. If only she'd had a quirk, perhaps she could've saved her best friend. If only heroes were real, her best friend wouldn't have bled out in her arms.
Fifteen-year-old Elloise had lost her spark. Her bare feet were standing on the cool concrete of the apartment roof. Her already lifeless brown eyes watching the traffic below. Her dirty blonde hair billowing in the wind. With one last breath she whispered, "In the next life, lai." And stepped off the roof.
She closed her eyes. Her right hand clenched around a drawing of her and Adelaide in what would've been their superhero costumes.
Her best friend's life had been cut short. If only they'd had more time together, but fate is cruel. Elloise may never see her best friend again, not in this life, but the next life was full of promises. Promises of the two of them together, united once again.
As she fell, Elloise felt a peace she hadn't felt in a long time. With a soft, dreamy smile on her face, her body hit the ground.
Elloise was floating through a void. A fathomless void with a light glimmering at the end. Letting her spirit take its time on its journey to the light, Elloise relaxed.
"She dies; you die. This is the endless cycle you have entered." Elloise heard a deep, raspy voice echo quietly through the void, but before she could think the words over, she was pulled into the light.
