CHAPTER 18
Sophie and her friends went to Eternalia the next morning to ask the council if they could have access to the ''early archives''. Sophie was waiting outside the gates with her boyfriend.
- You look really worried today, I'm not just saying that because I read your feelings...
- ...
- You know, darling, you can tell me anything.
- I'm afraid of losing you. Losing Oralie... or one of our friends, to the Red Phantom... that's what makes me so worried and nervous... I'm afraid we won't be able to beat him...
- You don't have to be afraid ... I'm sure everything will be fine and we'll be able to put him out of action.
- I don't think so Keefe ... actually ...
- Hi! exclaimed Marella as she arrived following all her friends, putting an end to Sophie's sentence.
- Well, let's ask now that you're all here! They climbed the steps and entered. The council made them wait a few minutes.
- Please follow me. Said a goblin. Silently the young adults went into the tribune room, the council's hearing room. Councillor Oralie had resumed her place among her colleagues.
They bowed slightly in respect.
- Lady Sophie, what is the value of your visit in good company? asked Emery.
- Well, after a lot of... a lot of research into the Red Phantom and his talent that came to nothing, we wondered if we could have access to the 'archives of the early days'?
Emery discussed with his colleagues and finally said:
- Yes, we agree to give you access to the archives. Oralie will accompany you. The counsellor stood up and told the young adults to follow her. So they went into a narrow corridor. Two goblins escorted the small group. Oralie unlocked the door with a code.
- It's big. exclaimed Biana. Indeed the room was huge, filled with a maze of shelves reaching to the ceiling where hundreds of books and volumes were piled up.
- We'd better get started. said Wylie.
- Can I offer you my help? asked the empath.
- Of course, with pleasure. Sophie replies.
After an hour of searching
- there's nothing there! says Keefe.
- Guys ... I think we have a bigger problem coming! exclaimed Linh.
- What's going on? asked Oralie, putting down an encyclopaedia.
- That... whispered the hydrokineticist, pointing to a red mist spreading among the shelves. The friends gathered round.
- It can't be... him again. Sophie murmured. A snicker echoed in the distance as the bodyguards drew their weapons.
- Is this what you're looking for? asked the Red Phantom as he appeared before them with a scarlet-covered book.
- GIVE IT BACK! Biana and Sophie shouted in unison.
- Come and get it! He disappeared and reappeared further away, as the group tried to catch him he disappeared before reappearing in the distance. They played a game of cat and mouse. They ended up in the gallery with a loud crash. The council was startled.
- Why do you want this book?
- Give it back! cried Oralie and Sophie in chorus this time as they approached each other to grab the book from the oppressor.
- It's funny how much you look like... oh I feel like saying like mother like daughter! Oralie and Sophie turned pale, the ghost had just revealed their greatest secret, with a diabolical laugh He made the book disappear by burning it.
- NO! exclaimed the elves.
The red Phantom took Keefe's heart from his pocket. He looked at it for a moment, rolling it in his hand. The counsellors, still in shock, went on the defensive, their bodyguards too.
- This is not a game... Thirty against one... you're a laugh a minute... it's a fight you want very much, so let's have some fun !
