"Ew." I said in disgust. "Why would you want to make me buy, let alone wear, that."

Laura was holding up a dress, one which I wouldn't actually go near in a million years. I generally hated anything that involved more than jeans and a oversized shirt, but I guess my style wasn't something to be desired by everyone. Not even me, to be honest.

"People who are going out on a date." She emphasised the last word and sung it out, making the woman who was trying to walk behind us smile. I groaned.

"We're not even going out." I said. It was true.

"Well it's nice to be prepared." She said, putting both the dress and the hanger back on the rack, and turning round to see what was on the other side. "He might find you and decide you're the perfect one and whisk you away to a posh meal."

"I think you're confusing my lack of romantic activity in my life with a Disney movie." I said, sarcastically.

"Mmhm." She said, not completely with it. She was looking through another rack of clothing, full of other clothes which I would never actually wear at all. "We have that dance thing soon."

"That dance thing that I've never been to in three years of going to the same school." I told her, hoping to refresh her memory: I hated dances with everything inside of me, and I didn't actually know why, it's not like anything that awful had happened to me at one of them.

"Whatever." She said, turning back to the rack, before the noise of a phone ringing stopped her from making any further response. I looked at her, phone still ringing. "Mine's on silent, must be yours."

I pulled my phone out of my pocket, first checking if it was actually mine, and when it was, I answered it, placing one hand over the ear I wasn't holding the phone against to block out the overrated teenage-y pop music. I listened, hearing only vague noises over the phone.

I listened for a while before deciding to speak. If it wasn't anything important, I would just hang up. Most of the phones I owned had a thing for hiding the caller ID for numbers that I had saved on my contact list, so it could have really been anyone.

"Hello." I said down the phone, trying to quieten my voice in case I was speaking louder than I thought I was. "Who is this?"

The voice from the other end of the line spoke. It wasn't one I recognised.

"Is this Hollie?"

I rolled my eyes, but Laura had turned her back and was looking at clothes again, obviously trying to give me some privacy. "You called my phone, you should know who it is."

"Technically, I didn't call it." The voice, now clearly one of a boy, spoke again, this time in a more sarcastic tone.

"Can you just tell me who this is before I hang up or something." I paused, before adding a short please to the end. I didn't want to come across as snarky, even if the person on the other line, whoever they were, was being a total arse.

"We may or may not know the owner of this phone. Who is Davie, before you ask. Because I know you will."

Great. I was being prank called by friends, or family, for all I know, of a guy I'd know for the best part of a month.

Just as I was about to say something vaguely witty back though, I heard muffling on the other side of the line, so I held the phone away from my ear, just to let it calm down. After a while though, I heard a voice coming through the line.

"Davie says he loves you." The voice from the other side of line was jeering, and I laughed.

"Oh crap." Another voice, Davie's, spoke, after some muffling and a large amount of laughter coming from the voice I hard speaking before. "I'm so sorry."

"It's seriously no problem." I told him. "Who was it?" I asked.

"A friend. Or an asshole. Whichever you want to call him." I could mentally picture Davie giving him a death glare as he said it.

I laughed, and waited to see if he said anything back.

"So." He said. "I was just wondering, if you wanted to get some coffee or something, with me." He was hesitant with his words.

"Sure." I said. "When?"

"Whenever you want." He told me.

I didn't know whether it was a my cue to say which day I was free, or whether it was just Davie saying that if I ever wanted to get coffee, then he would go with me. Seeing the smile on Laura's face as she figured out what was going on over the other side of the phone.

"How about tomorrow?" I asked. "I think I'm not busy then."

"I'd really like that, Hol." He replied, making me smile a little. "It's a date."

And that was when I turned to face Laura, after we'd said our goodbyes and hung up.

"He said 'it's a date'. What the hell is that supposed to mean." I asked. I wasn't actually too sure of the whether he just said it like the way people say it to each other, and it seemed stupid actually bothering about something as stupid as this, but I did: I was me, and I worried about every single little thing.

"He probably means it like normal people mean it, Hollie." Laura confirmed my thoughts. "But you're still wearing something pretty, I'm not having my best friend meeting her new favourite guy wearing jeans and an oversized band shirt."

"I'm looking normal." I told her. "And my normal is oversized shirts and jeans."

"Imagine he's Dan Smith. Now you'd dress up for Dan Smith wouldn't you?" She had to bring Bastille into this.

"Not a dress though." I sighed. I had a feeling she wouldn't give in unless I said what she wanted to hear.

"Now, that's my girl." She said as she dragged me across the store.
