Chapter 1

So I'm not very sure how to do this. Aria told me that it was best to write down what happened to me during the rebellion. Truth was, I was never that great at writing, it was difficult enough to put pen to paper and drag a stream of thoughts for the hard-pressed English assignments I was forced to endure in the Modern Era.

But it's different now.

A lot of things have changed and I've been told to greatly appreciate that. There is no filter between the mouth and mind, people fight for whatever they please, even if they aren't dedicated to the cause. Things are more optional, there is no real pressure on teenagers to grow up. In a way, it slowed the economy greatly, but there's the occasional person who will revolutionise the world just enough so that we don't crash and burn.

Right now I'm in my house, not the one I used to live in with my parents before the rebellion. But a house, I share it with some friends I made in the rebellion. It's fairly simple with a subtle blue theme. A single bed with a cupboard and desk are its only real features. A window next to the bed looks out over the rebuilding city. Posters and merchandise that survived the Dark Days crowd the walls in a colourful frenzy, mostly book and movie-based franchises. I was never the one for shows.

"Write about the Rebellion!" Aria cried whenever I slow my typing. Without her I can't be sure how I survived the entire thing.

Aira is my one and only best friend, we've been inseparable since birth, and being born only barely hours a part started a long-running joke that we were actually twins. Aria has long dark hair with coloured highlights of blue, red, green, yellow and so forth. Her hair reminded me of a tropical bird one might find in the Amazon Forest. She usually has it in a braid or loose and the way it shifted reminded me of dark bird feathers. She's tall and extremely athletic with tanned skin the colour of roasted pine. She would be the perfect soldier with my exception of me needing my best friend at my side. She wears the absolute bare minimum of makeup, her obsidian eyes can encapture many of the boys that tried to flirt with her over her years. Right now she's slumped on my bed, hoping to get a peak of the neighbouring guy her age. She often wears hoodies and jeans -the natural clothing of a fangirl- and either boots or bare feet. There is no in-between for her.

Honestly, I'm a bit afraid of writing about my experiences, I was a symbol for the face of the rebellion, a Katniss Everdeen, if you please. Releasing my experiences to the public would be an action a lot of the Council would not approve of.

"Screw them," Aria cries and makes a loud tribal call, at which I usually curse and lock myself in the linen cupboard until she's finished her prancing around the house and vicious war songs.

I'm not sure what to say about myself, my name was once Astrid Hope Evendove. I was daughter to two extremely influential people in my world; my father was Prime Minister for Australia, and my mother was an international diplomat, often working under other aliases to continue her work. Needless to say, I travelled a lot.

My parents were cold people, hugging me close for the cameras, then assigning babysitters to watch me as they completed their duties. That all changed on one very fateful day; 25th April.

My name is now Astryd Annabeth Romanoff and this is my story:

It was one of the afternoons where Aria would come over to my house to study after another drab day at our snobby school. Rich kids with their noses in the air, loudly proclaimed their wealth, flashing off their designer labels and spewing forth another round of their squeaky proclamations.

Aria and I, alongside our two other friends; Darwin and Charlie decided to keep to ourselves for the day and lose our selves in another round of a Percy Jackson book marathon. This of course, drew the attention of the snobs as we weren't kissing the pavement they had just walked across.

After several failed attempts of trying to get our attention they resorted to spreading another nasty round of rumours. God, I hate the snobs. But it balanced out because Aria was coming over to my house and we were going to analyse the movie adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth.

Aria had insisted that we keep the radio blaring because there was supposed to be some kind of International Announcement that the world had been speculating about for the past week.

"Aria," I drew out her name and put on a pouty façade, "can you please turn it down? This is the bit where Rachel pegs Kronos,"

She pulled a face at me and was going to turn down the sound before the radio crackled and the garbed words came through. "We interrupt your daily schedule to bring you this International Announcement. Today, the anti-fandom law has been approved and passed. As of the 25th of April, selected book-based fandoms will become illegal, this includes, fanfiction, fanbases, fanblogs, OTPs, ships, original books and comics and movies based on them. These franchises include Marvel's Avengers, X-Men, Percy Jackson, Divergent, and Harry Potter. Any persons association with these franchises is highly illegal act and will be heavily prosecuted,"

The radio announcement ended.

"They can't do that!" I cried, "What a stupid law!"

"Seems like they already have," she replied grimly.
