The Smile

It was hilarious in my eyes, how I could look so different. I ran my fingers through my hair, and walked back to the couch where Persephone sat. She looked up and smirked, she was probably still thinking about how I looked like my father.

"So Nico, do you like it?" she smiled, my nerves were still tingling from the pain; like the feeling you have after being struck by lightning.

"It looks incredible; it was worth the pain." I laughed, Persephone rolled her eyes with a smug look on her face. All of the sudden I felt something tighten around me, I stopped laughing and begun gasping for air. Persephone sluggishly got up, and calmly walked over to me. I looked down to see thick vines crushing me like an anaconda in the rainforest, tropical flowers with vivid colours began to bloom the sweet sent making me feel dizzy.

"Your powers are based of emotion, so this might happen a little until you learn to control it." She walked to the kitchen and grabbed a sharp steak knife, she looked at me with a murderess expression fear crept in my heart as the oxygen was slowly being squeezed out of me.

"What ever you do Nico, don't struggle you will only make it harder for yourself." She lifted the knife, I wanted to run. Was Persephone part of the Rebellion? Maybe she killed my father, and now she was going to get rid of me now. I was waiting for her to tell me to join the Rebellion or die, but no words left her mouth only silence was in the air; swallowing the sound of me trying to hold on to life. Persephone stood in front of me, watching me as I was being suffocated.

"Don't move." The world moved in slow motion, I saw her hand come down with the blade. I felt the steel tip of the blade trace over my skin, the vines that once held me hostage were on the floor. I gasped for air, and fell to my knees.

"Sorry if I cut you, I'm not very good with a knife. Also Nico when I say don't move, don't move." She put the knife on the counter, and looked at me then back at the knife.

"Wait, did you think I was going to stab you?" She looked at me like I was an idiot.

"Okay for my defence I have serious trust issues." Persephone's expression softened, like she had forgotten about what I had been through; she laughed and walked over to me.

"Fair enough, and don't worry you will have your revenge on those who have hurt you." I kicked one of the vines which laid at me feet, despite the fact I knew I would be the one who would have to clean it up. I sat down on the sofa still catching my breath, Persephone leaned agents the wall and smiled.

"I know it feels weird now, but right now your powers are still merging with your original powers. So just give it some time, and soon you will have complete control."

"How long do you think it will take?" I gazed up at Persephone, who merely shook her head.

"Hard to tell, for my children it usually takes about a couple days. For you I have no idea, it seems you already have some sort of control; so maybe it wont take you as long." Her uncertainty frightened me, how was I going to bring the Rebellion to there knees if my own power would suffocate me? I could barley survive the first hour with my new enhancements, knowing my luck William would probably shoot me in the heart with an arrow as I gasp for life. Thinking of him didn't have the same bitter taste as always, William Solace didn't mean a thing; all of our memories together seem like a bad romantic comedy. William was nothing in my eyes, the sun had set. Now he only an obstacle.

"What am I suppose to do in the meantime?" I was expecting to hear some Jedi crap like "You must train Nico, so you can defeat the dark side" instead Persephone sat beside me and looked me dead in the eyes.

"You can go make me some more popcorn." She said holding up the bowl, I took the bowl and walked to the kitchen.

"And Nico." She said in the same dramatic tone.

"Don't forget the butter. "She smiled.

"I wont!" I called back, Persephone laughed and went back to Netflix to select a new movie. To be honest I still have the nightmares of popcorn, and one time I screamed in terror when I saw Percy eat some for dinner. Despite my corn based fears I started on the popcorn, until I heard the door creak open. I froze, with a wall blocking my view I had no way of seeing who it was; Persephone didn't seem to be fazed. The foot steps got louder and a grumbling noise followed, like a hungry bear.

"Persephone, I'm home!" Boomed the voice of the god of the Undead.

"Hey sweetie, I'm in the living room. By the way your son is here, so I wont be cooking this week." My father glided across the floor, like he was hovering instead of walking. His black robe seemed to turn into shadow, with a simple twine rope as his belt. Hades looked at me with brown eyes with red embellishments, his pale skin clung tight on his skeleton; with his raven coloured hair falling naturally on his shoulders. He looked down upon me, like he was disappointed to see me.

"I see your step mother saved you from your prison." He said calmly, but the air felt like ice.

"Oh come on Hades, give the kid a break. Let's face it, your fault he is on this quest in the first place." Persephone walked over to me, putting her arm around me.

"Look at him, he is your only son; your only child of your Greek persona." She did a little puppy dog face, trying to make me less like a bullseye to my father's fury. She didn't look scared, probably the only living soul who didn't fear my father. Hades sighed looking down at the ground, perfectly knowing his wife was correct.

"Fine, whatever." He lifted his arms, showing how he had given up. All of the gods and goddesses in Olympus were afraid off my father, even his two older brothers filched whenever he raised his voice; all accept Persephone who couldn't care less. My father looked at me once more, his eyes less sharp.

"So son, I assume you had an eventful day" I could still hear some bitterness in his voice, but I chose to ignore that.

"That's one way of putting it." I looked down at the kernels twitching under the heat of the stove, Hades simply nodded gliding towards Persephone and pulling her aside. I knew they weren't fighting because their voices were mere whispers, and from time to time I would see their heads poke out from the corner to look at me. The words I could hear made no sense, like they decided to take nonsense to each other. I could scramble one sentence together and even then, it had no real importance.

"No door is truly closed." Shrugging it off, I began melting the butter. Persephone was the first to come out of the shadows, gracefully walking towards me. Adjusting her hair, smiling at me; she starting fiddling with her iron wedding ring like she didn't know how to start a conversation. My father like a phantom was suddenly by the fridge, starring at me the same way Persephone was; well, except the whole smiling thing. The awkward silence was suffocating me, especially with the godly eyes piercing my soul. The last time they looked at me like this is when I accidently spoiled Game of Thrones (I read a Greek version of the books okay!)  Hades decided to break the silence.

"So Nico, I hear gained some new powers; and so far, they have already tried to kill you." He raised his eyebrows in a sarcastic matter. Persephone smiled like she was holding back a smirk, she didn't really take my father seriously.

"Um, yes." I muttered, I wont openly admit it but I'm actually afraid of my father. He told me once if I ever betray him or "do something stupid" I would have to live with him for the rest of my afterlife.

"I'm surprised, you were able to find out so much about the Rebellion. You can't even look me in the eye but you can stand torture, and mental abuse."  I raised my head, my father's eyes locked with mine.

"Well let's just say, I'm no stranger to torture and mental abuse." This I said much bolder, Hades smiled sympathetically.

"So your step mother told me, you have a plan to get revenge on the soul less one." My father crossed his arms, trying to casually lean ageist the fridge.

"Let me guess, you think I should do nothing and let the Fates do their job." Persephone snickered, grabbing some popcorn enjoying the show.

"Oh son, you seem to forget who I am. How I have no respect, for those who sell their soul to escape me.  True I'm not Nemesis, but I am God of the Underworld; and if you get your hands on his soul. I will get you every drop of revenge you deserve." I believe they call that a bonding moment, well at least for my family.

"So when do we start?" My fatal flaw growing stronger.

"Well your no use here, and you know him better than any of us. Make him take you to the main office of the Rebellion, find the leader; and then slaughter that pig where he stands."  I never thought about the leader of the Rebellion, form the description Hades he was awful even on my father's standards. My father called him: a tartare who went off on his own a few thousand years ago, horrible temper, manipulative, feeds of off the hopes and dreams off of others, and is extremely power hungry. It makes since he would go and start a cult ageist my father, I have never seen an actual picture of him; but seeing his blood drip off the blade of my sword sounded satisfying. Poor little William Solace, he is going to be the cause of the Rebellions fall; and when I'm done with the leader who knows what ill do to him.

"Should I go tonight?" Persephone walked towards her husband, and put her arms around his waist.

"No not tonight in the morning, you need your rest."  Persephone smiled, I nodded at flew up the stairs. I would have stayed longer, but I was to eager for revenge; I was always told to contain this part of me to "play nice", but now I can finally live up to my full potential. Small vines began to rap around my ankles. This time I didn't feel help less, I wasn't overflowed with an emotion; my fatal flaw grew strong within me. Making the vines black as night, and the flowers a sinister shade of blood red.

"This is more like it." I snickered, the vines crawled up my body, more gently before. One of the vines slithered up my left hand, and began to bloom over my scare. This flower was different; it was a sun flower, bright and goldened and the center was charcoal. My subcondensate created this flower, this flower was no a replantation of me, but William. I didn't want him in my head, I wanted him on his knees begging for mercy. Thoughts of him flooded my head, my imagination showing me the image of him graveling at my feet. The thought tasted like acid in the back of my throat, whether or not that was a good thing I don't know. I wanted to hate him, but confusion always followed when he entered my mind. On one hand, I wanted to throw him off a bridge, but on the other I thought he had beautiful eyes.

"Problems for tomorrow." I fell to my bed, my eye lids becoming cement. The door creaked open Persephone poked her head out.

"Good night Nico, and good luck. And remember, if feeling start to dwell on William; I wont be mad." Her voice was strong, but if I started having more affectionate emotions towards William; than I would think of all the crap he put me through.

"Good night." I stumbled through the words, I was more tired than I realized; and the soft familiar bed was nice. She closed the door, perfectly sinking with my eyes; all my dreams were practically the same. I was siting on a thrown of iron and silver, fire raining down behind me, and I was wearing some sort of robe. An irritating laugh filled the air like noxious gas, a voice spoke in multiple voices.

"Nico Di Angelo the Ghost King!" It cried into the air.

"Nico Di Angelo the Master of All!" The voice went silent for a moment; I could hear others cheering. Then the voice boomed making the walls shake.

"Nico Di Angelo the new leader of the Rebellion!" the cries of those around me grew louder, I could feel sweat run down my forehead. I began to twitch like he popcorn in the oil, this wasn't me; this was my fatal flaw. I was no puppet to my emotions, and defiantly not the Rebellion. I needed to calm down I needed to relax, I tried thinking of something that would calm me down; until it came in my head. Golden locks and baby blue eyes, I realized what I had though of and I tried to fight it, but it was to late.

"Don't worry I got you." The musical voice spoke softly.

"I'm here now, your safe." His freckles like water colour on his cheeks, my breathing went down in vain. I forgot to take in one thing in my plans for revenge, I forgot that William had an incredible smile.
