Chapter 3

"Are you guys ready?"

"Chie, don't you think we should have called first. What if she's not home?"

"If we had called her first, that would have given her more time to analyze the situation. Did you forget she's a world-class detective?! She would have had us figured out in minutes."

"Chie's right. Naoto's too smart for her own good sometimes."

"I guess... so... who's going to knock?"

The three froze. Chie, Rise, and Yukiko were standing outside of the Shirogane residence. They were here to take Naoto out on their 'girl's night out'. Obviously, they had not thought this out very well.

"This was Chie's plan; she should be the one to knock." Rise commented.

"What?!" she gasped. "Yukiko has better manners! She should knock!"

"No way!" she protested. "Rise should knock because... because... because I don't know why! But Rise should still knock!"

The three continued to argue.

"Who needs knocking, arguing at the top of your lungs works just as well." The three froze and slowly turned towards the door.

Standing in the now open doorway was none other than Detective Prince, Naoto Shirogane.

The three just stood there with their mouths hanging open. "Can I help you all with something?"

That got their attention. "Sorry about the noise Naoto-kun! I hope we didn't disturb you!" Yukiko quickly bowed and the other two quickly followed.

Naoto chuckled. "You didn't disturb me. I'm the only one home at the moment. I only heard you because I happened to have my window open. So, did you need something?"

"Are you busy right now?" Rise asked.

"Not particularly." She answered. "Why?"

"We were wondering if you would like to hang out with us," Chie told her.

"We thought we would go get something to eat, then maybe go shopping," Yukiko added.

Naoto thought it over, "That sounds... rather enjoyable. My grandfather has asked for my assistance on a number of cases recently... it might be good to have a little fun to clear my mind... Sure, just let me go get ready. Please, come inside." She opened the door wider and let the others follow her in.

"Wow..." Chie gasped. "Your house is huge!" when they walked in, it felt like they were walking into a mansion owned by a king. Everything in the house looked like it was extremely expensive.

Rise nodded, "I never really thought about it... but we've never actually been inside your house before Naoto-Kun..."

She was blushing, "It's not that big... my family just had a lot of money from being detectives..."

"We should hang out at your house more often Naoto-Kun." Yukiko was looking at herself in a huge mirror by the stairs.

Naoto blushed more. "You've always been welcome it's just..." they looked over at her "I just didn't want it to seem like I was showing off by inviting you over..."

Rise looked over at her and noticed her red cheeks, "What do you mean?"

"It's just..." she took a deep breath, "My family has more money than a lot of people because of our type of work. I didn't want you to think I was trying to show off our wealth by inviting you over..."

"We don't think you're trying to show off." Chie put a hand on her shoulder. "You need to have a little more confidence."

"Okay..." Naoto reached up to cover her eyes with her hat but realized that she wasn't wearing it. I'm going to go put on some different clothes... my room is upstairs if you would like to... if you want... I don't know..." she quickly turned and practically ran up the stairs.

The other three looked at each other and laughed quietly. Naoto could be adorable when she was nervous. They could see why Kanji liked her.

Naoto walked to the last room on the left down a very long hallway. The door was solid white like all of the other doors. However, in the center of the door, the words 'Naoto's Room' were written in what looked like a blue crayon. The three silently gestured to the words and Naoto blushed some more. "I did that when I was very young. My grandfather had just taught me about making proper nouns possessive. For about a week I went around labeling all of my toys. I even managed to claim my room before my grandfather noticed me. He thought it was cute though, so he left it."

Yukiko laughed "I would have loved to see a tiny Naoto. That sounds adorable." Chie and Rise laughed and quickly agreed.

Naoto chose to ignore them and opened her door. "Wow..." Chie commented. "This... is not quite what I expected..."

Naoto is a very well mannered, calm, and collected girl. So, they had assumed that her room would demonstrate this in away. Oh, how wrong they were...

"Sorry uh... yeah... my room is kind of... messy..." Naoto blushed again. Man, she was getting tired of that.

"Naoto..." Yukiko looked around the room. "This isn't 'kind of messy', this is borderline unlivable!"

Papers and sticky notes were scattered around the room. She had taped them to her wall, desk, nightstand, even her dresser. On the doors of her closet, a set of maps was hanging by the knobs. She had taken blue yarn and connected different pieces of paper together, this made walking through the room difficult because they had to duck and step over strings. Not to mention, the numerous empty coffee mugs made the room even more of a maze. Even her bed was covered in cardboard boxes.

"Normally uh... normally my room is a little... less chaotic..." she said picking up several mugs off the floor. "It's just with these last few cases I have been working on, I've gotten swamped. I've been forced to work on multiple cases at once as opposed to one at a time. It seems my room has suffered the consequences..."

"But where have you been sleeping?" Rise gestured to the bed.

"I haven't."

"For how long?"

"I can't remember."

"Aren't you tired?"

"Very much so."

"Okay, change of plans." Chie looked around the room. "We're cleaning this up. Let's clear off the bed really quick, then Naoto you are going to take a nap."

"But..." she started to say.

"Did I say you had a choice?" she glared at her. "You will be taking a nap. Now, you said all of these cases are closed right?" she nodded. "So, you don't actually need this stuff anymore?" she shook her head. That's all I needed to hear. Alright girls, let's get to work!"

They cleaned the bed quickly, and Naoto fell asleep instantly. The others started cleaning the room. By the time they had finished, it was already dark outside.

Naoto started to wake up just as Yukiko was taking out the last bag of trash. "Wow... I can see the carpet again..."

Rise laughed, "Yeah, you had this place trashed pretty good. But we fixed it up. How does it look?"

"Amazing..." she muttered to herself. She quickly bowed to the three of them. "I am sorry for making you clean up my mess for me senpais! I had not intended on sleeping so long but..."

"Don't sweat it Naoto." Yukiko smiled at her. "We're happy to help. And you really needed the sleep."

"I'm just sorry that I messed up your day out." She commented.

"Don't worry about it," Chie said happily. "Are you free tomorrow?" She nodded. "Then we will just try again tomorrow."

"That sounds nice," Naoto commented.

The four talked for a little longer before Chie, Rise, and Yukiko departed. They had to give the guys their report after all...

~line break~

"YOU DIDN'T LEARN ANYTHING?! WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING ALL FREAKIN' DAY?!"

For their sakes... they had better find out something tomorrow. Or else Kanji might throw a fit...
