The Dealer
I leaned forward and climbed out of the unpleasant chair. I pushed the chair under the table and took a left.
I was able to avoid being stopped by the useless brutes, that the casino calls security because they were busy trying to keep order in the crowd of greedy gamblers.
I walked quickly on the orange stained carpet floor towards the blackjack table.
As I walked I felt the cool air conditioning blow across my face. The cold Breeze put a feeling of luck and despair. The luck was because of all the jackpots one and all the happy faces. Though I felt the despair of all the people who lost everything here.
I was shocked to see that the blackjack was jammed packed. In my experiences people aren't a huge fan. I looked around and not a single one was open.
I waited and waited and waited but, no one left their games. I did see in the far far left corner a dealer at the table. It just seemed strange because others were waiting to play and they didn't go to him.
He seemed to be practically hugging the shadowy corner. He had a wide smile with yellow teeth. He was shuffling the cards without looking at his hands.
I decided that the wait was unbearable, so I ran to his table. He stopped shuffling when he saw me approach him.
"Hello good sir! I'm so glad to see you here! This is really the best casino in Las Vegas!"
I placed my elbow on the table and looked at the sky. I whistled for a second, and continued to do so as I answered.
"I guess so" I said with a musical tone.
"Are you up for a bet!"
"Well of course, why wouldn't I be?"
"I don't know?"
The man winked at me as he said that. He then laughed to himself like we were good buddies.
"I'm only kidding around with you! It's just people find the placing of this table so uncomfortably strange!"
I moved my head around.
"I can see that"
I placed down my chips on the table. I placed two fingers on a few chips and slid them forward.
The man flipped over the cards. He grabbed my chips away from me like a sneaky little thief.
"Better luck next time"
"Yeah."
I placed another bet. He flipped over the cards again.
"Hit me!" I yelled at him. I got excited because I felt a winning streak about to start. He grabbed the card and slid it to me.
"Ahh sorry buddy" he placed his hand on my lower arm.
This cycle happened for a good couple minutes. I was starting to get frustrated and he could tell.
"Well, I can see your plans aren't going well. So let's say you bet the remaining chips you have and if you win I'll give you all your chips back!"
This sounded way too good to be true. I studied my chips, the cards on the table, and his face. Everything seemed normal but, his face seemed strange.
Like it was the same face as before but, I had a different feeling towards him. I felt nervous and suspicious. This person was being too generous, for being a card dealer.
"Sure" I picked up and placed my final few chips.
"Sorry you lose!" The man said before he flipped the cards.
"What?"
The dealer showed me the cards with a wide deathly smile. He tapped his fingers on the table like a drum and waited for a response.
"You lost your last chip! Well I am up for a final deal interested?"
This sent shivers up my spine, making the hairs on my arm stick up. The man was acting like an actual person who makes deals with you, not a normal card dealer.
"I guess it couldn't hurt, what?"
The man reached into his pocket and took one small itty bitty little chip. He held it up to my eye as if it was a monocle.
"This is what I'm selling to you! This chip."
"This one little chip, it's not worth it!"
"Settle down, this isn't just an ordinary chip. This chip will grant you a million dollars at the front desk."
"Really how am I supposed to believe that?"
"*small little chuckles* You see this little chip, is old as the casinos were made. For every casino only one of these chips are made. They make sure that none of the chips go missing. They will still pay you because of casino rules. Trust me?"
He put out his boney gloved hands for a shake. I was cautious because this seemed like a deal with the devil. I grabbed for his hand and attempted to shake but, the mans hand stayed stiff.
"And in return you will do one thing that I say. Deal?"
"Deal"
The man flipped the chip onto my hand. I looked down at the chip. It had strange engravings on its platinum body. It still felt smooth even though there were many indents on it. I looked up to thank the guy but, he had vanished.
It made my stomach go upside down. I turned my head around like a owl. Nothing he had just disappeared.
I decided to check behind the table. There's nothing sinister in my brain like stealing chips, I just was curious.
I saw a strange note on the tables back side. I ripped it off its tape and raised it up to my face to read it.
Au Revoir you fool! I will see you shortly better cash that little chip fast. I will enjoy meeting you again. Don't feel bad about losing so much, the house always wins."
At the very bottom of the note he drew a big smiling face. The face wasn't black lie the ink that he wrote in. The face was drawn with red sharpie maybe. It was also strange that the smily face had small little lines going through the mouth.
I crumbled up the piece of paper and ran to the front counter to cash things out.
I placed the chip on the table when I got there. The woman behind the counter gasped.
"Did you make a deal for that chip?!?"
"Yeah why?"
"Because that chip holds a dark secret. That man who you made a deal with is going to kill you!"
"That's complete nonsense"
"Is it!"
"Yes, now can I have the money."
The woman took out large wads of money and placed them in a plastic bag. I thought I may have just seen the second coming.
I slid the chip on the table to her waiting for her to take it. The woman raised her hands in total fear.
Her skin became white as a ghost and her old body backed away from the chip. She hit a wall trying to escape the chip.
"What are you doing"
"Keep that chip away from me! Get it away!"
I shrugged it off and placed it in my pocket. For some reason I thought I felt someone say something in my head. It said something like an insane person would say.
"She's right. I need a new soul to play with"
