Chapter I
Y/N POV
I was in my house, watching the news about Sword Art Online Which was going to be a disaster by the end of the would die if I didn't help them.
News reporter: All right, we're under way! It's time for this week's MMO Stream. First, we had you watch a promotional video...Are we looking at the day of last week's launch? What could all these people waiting in line be after? Sword Art Online! The one at the front of the line waited three days prior to launch. Amazing! But hey if you're a hardcore gamer, that's what you do! On today's episode of MMO Stream, we'll be covering Sword Art Online, or SAO! To be honest, none of the NerveGear software released so far has really taken advantage of the hardware. Yeah they were crappy games right? But SAO was made by the NerveGear inventor, Kayaba Akihiko and his very own son, Y/N Kayaba! Kayaba said Y/N had been helping ever since they started the project but school slowly started to interfere with their work so he gave Y/N the option to work on it or focus on school. Kayaba also said that Y/N added many weapons than just swords and created their functions into the game, making every weapon unique in its own special way! Now isn't that exciting?!
Y/N: You just had to mention me didn't you, dad?
Others who were interviewed talked about how cool the beta testers were. I would've told everyone what my father had in mind, but let's face it, nobody would listen to me. Nobody's going to believe a successful video game developer and company would intentionally created a virtual death game. As the launch of SAO was coming closer, I made sure the lock to my door was changed without my father knowing, even though it wouldn't do much if he got in since I know my heritage very well. Once ready, I placed my NerveGear on and waited for the clock to change to 12:00 PM. As soon as it did...
Y/N: Link... Start!
I was then transported into the world of SAO and I immediately started grinding for Coal until I had enough to by a scythe that I made sure was exclusive only for me that I named Veliona, modeled and named after my personal scythe my mother gave me before she disappeared after a huge argument with my father about the nature of Grim Reapers and what their sole purpose of existence is; to kill and harvest souls.
That's right, I hacked the game a bit to benefit me, but I did for good cause. Once I got my Scythe, I immediately went back out to the field but on my way, I was stopped by a guy.
???: Hey! Wait!
Y/N: Yeah?
???: My name's Klein and you look like you know this game pretty well.
Y/N: Well my father helped create it.
Klein: Sweet! So you're one of the very first Beta Testers?
Y/N: As a matter of fact, I was the very first. Is there something you need?
Klein: I'm new to this so can you please teach me?
Y/N: Sure. I don't mind.
Klein: Seriously? Thank you!
Y/N: *smiles slightly* Don't mention it. It's only fair that I help others learn how to play. Follow me, I know a good place to learn how to play.
Klein: Right.
We then walked into a field that was filled with boar. I then told Klein how to fight and he tried to fight but easily got his ass kicked by a pig, which I found a tad bit amusing. He then grunted as if he was in pain.
Y/N: Oh quit rolling on the floor. You can't feel pain, remembering?
Klein: Oh Yeah. Habit I guess.
Y/N: Habit.... Okay... Well come on and get up. I'll teach a little bit more.
Klein: Thanks.
I then taught him how to use a sword skill. We then continued training. After we finished training, it was Dusk in game.
Klein: Thanks for all your help.
Y/N: No problem. If you need more help, don't be afraid to message me.
Klein: Will do... Grim. As in the Grim Reaper?
Y/N: Yeah, but can call me Y/N.
Klein: Y/N...Wait as in Kayaba Akihiko's son?!
Y/N: Heh... Yeah that's me...
Klein: Sweet! But Grim suits you since you're using a Scythe. I thought there was only going to be swords in this game...
Y/N: I asked my father to see if we could add different weapons. He said "As long as they aren't guns or magic, I'll add them". I then asked him to let me add scythes since I was going to play too.
Klein: I see. Well I'm going to log out now. I have a pizza coming at 5.
Y/N: I.... Alright... (Good luck with that)
A few seconds later, Klein asked me another question.
Klein: Where's the log out button?
Y/N: *long silence* I... have been lying to you a bit...
Klein: What do you mean?
Y/N: My father plans on trapping us all in this game for some reason. The only reason I'm here, is to help others survive. After all, my father made it to where if you die in the game or have your NerveGear removed, you'll die in real life.
Klein: What?
Y/N: I wanted to tell everyone before the game launched but tell me. Who would believe me if I said my father planned on making a virtual death gain that have serious IRL consequences should you die in game.
Klein was silent for a moment then laughed.
Klein: That's a cruel joke, but it's cool that you're the Son of the creator of this amazing game!
Y/N: *sighs* Yeah... (Once people realize who I am, I'll be hated.)
Just then, we were teleported into the Town of beginnings' town hall as was every other player. I then looked up with dull eyes at flashing red hexagon that had the word "Warning" inside. I then sighed as my father appeared.
Kayaba: ladies and gentlemen. I am Kayaba Akihiko, the developer of this game. As most of you already know, the log out button is missing. Allow me to put you at ease and tell you that this is not a glitch. This is how Sword Art Online was created. The only way to escape is to beat the game. I should also mention that if you die in the game you'll die in real life. There's also the fact that if someone tries to remove your NerveGear, an electrical shock will fry your brain, killing you. Unfortunately, people have tried to remove them, a poor decision really. Also, there is a gift in everyone's inventory. I would like you all to open it.
Y/N: Here we go...
I then looked into the mirror of truth and my actual looks were transported into the game.
Klein: Wow you weren't lying. I'm so sorry about laughing at you. Please tell me you can disable the game and free us all.
Y/N: No. we have to beat the game. My father without a doubt disabled my administrator privileges after I stopped helping...
Klein: Damn...
Kayaba: Finally, my son is in the game. No doubt he'll be willing to help you all, despite me telling him not to join the game. If he dies however, I won't punish anyone so if you feel brave enough, go ahead and try to kill him, but know this. He's not responsible for any of you being trapped in here. He stopped helping me as soon as he learned of the true intentions of this game. Why don't you show yourself son? Or should I call you "Grim"? Clever name for a Scythe wielder.
Everyone then looked at me as a spotlight appeared on me but I looked my father in the eyes even though I couldn't see them and said three simple words.
Y/N: Go To Hell.
Kayaba: Yes. I'll probably go to Hell after all of this, but don't act like you won't be going there either. It's in your nature to kill, same as your mother's. Anyways, that's all I have to say other than I turned off the profanity filter. Have fun with that.
There was a very long silence.
Random dude: WE'RE FUCKED!
[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]
I then grabbed Klein and took off towards the exit of the town.
Y/N: Let's get going.
Klein: Hold on.
Y/N: What?
Klein: I have some friends from the real world in this game and it would be wrong to leave them on their own.
Y/N: If you want to help them, be my guest, but be careful. You heard my father clearly.
Klein: Yeah...I know...man people are going to hate you.
Y/N: I know, but for the thousands that will hate me, hundreds will admire me and if I can help as many people possible, then I'll be happy...
Klein: Alright. Good luck man... If you need anybody to talk to, just send me a message, k?
Y/N: Thanks. Good luck to you too.
We then went our separate ways.
