Chapter 6
"Yeah the beach!" Wally zoomed around on the deserted beach, kicking up sand.
"Wally!" Artemis shouted after him. People ditched the regular clothes and under them were the bathing suits. I popped open an umbrella sticking it I the sand, and a foldable chair under it. I was applying sunscreen wen Slick walked over to me.
"Wanna build a sand castle?" He asked.
"Sure." I put the sunscreen down. With our little castle we built three towers and a square wall around it.
"Now I bury you!" I shoved him on his butt when he tried to stand up.
"What?" He asked. "No way am I going to let that happen." But it was too late for a no, I took the gardening mini shovel and began digging a body shaped hole. I had Wally run me some water from the sea, so when Slick got in he would be in for a surprise. I made the sand that wet glue like type.
"In." I said.
"But I-" I interrupted him.
"Nope. In." He sighed giving a fight he knew he was going to lose. He plopped down into the hole.
"Why does it feel weird?" He asked.
"I filled it with water." I said with a smirk.
"What!" He tried to stand up, but I was already piling sand on top of him. When I fill the hole I smacked the sand down I make it harder.
"Ouch." He said.
"Stopping being a baby." I said. And just for the fun of it I made a mermaid sea shell 'cover up' (if you get it) on his chest made of sand.
"Not funny." He said but he was hiding a smile. Artemis walked over laughing.
"Picture time!" She said. I sat besides my work of art and she snapped a photo before Slick could protest.
"Hey!" He said. We laughed and she went back to her boyfriend. "Alright get me out of this." I pulled him out and he was covered in sand.
"Come on!" He said looking at himself.
"I mean, you were buried." I shrugged.
"I'm going to wash this sand off me." He said wadding into the ocean. We walked until we were waist deep. The water was clear and still, only small fish swirled at our feet. He washed off the white sand into the water. The water was still enough to swim in.
"Wanna race?" I asked. "Swim to the dock and back?" The dock was a little ways away, used for people to look at dolphins as they swam by in the morning. But today the beach was closed to non justice people.
"Your on." We got ready and we got Super boy to say go and Megan to watch at the dock to see who wins.
"Ready? GO!" And we raced off. I used free style, kicking my legs as fast as I could. I wasn't the best swimmer, but I would try. My arms began to tire but I made it to the dock.
"Slick wins!" Megan shouted. "Beat you by a few seconds."
"A few!?" I asked raising an eyebrow. Slick chuckled. We waddled back to where we were and walked out to the umbrella. Using towels we dried ourselves off.
"I think this is the most fun I've had in awhile." Slick said drying some of his hair with his towel.
"Really? Well, this is a lot of fun." I said. "Better than hunting."
"Yeah." He said sitting in his towel under the umbrella. I plopped into the chair. We sat like that for awhile, listening to the soft wind, and the little splashes made by the occasional fish. My eyelids got heavy and I drifted off the sleep.
Slick gently shook my shoulder awake. "Lunch." He said.
"Really?" I said stretching my arms up.
"Yeah. Sandwiches." He said. We walked over to the blanket where everyone was siting eating.
"Now we can't swim!" Megan said.
"That's a myth." Wally said. "I can totally swim without getting a cramp."
"Don't come crying to me when you do." Artemis said. We laughed together.
"Yeah?" He got up and jogged to the ocean. We watched as he swam around, but stopped clenching his stomach.
"Told you!" We shouted to him. He walked back out and sat back down.
"Lame." He said.
