Chapter 24

"Talk." I said, sitting in the edge if the pool, the water lapping at my feet. Cole sat next to me, his legs crossed.

"I need help." He muttered.

"Hmm?" I looked at him, with a raised eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

"They still want me. I can't get free, I can't escape." He almost seemed to be talking to himself.

"Who is they, Cole?" I asked, my voice close to the same level as his. "Who won't let you?" The boy who rode roller-costars was gone, replaced by a scared and nearly depressed teen.

"I-I can't say." He was look down, watching the water lap against his legs.

"Cole." My voice was stern, but as well as soft.

"Th-this wasn't a good idea." He said, just barely audible.

"Cole-" Before I could finish, he was up and gone. I sighed, this could have been a waste. But, not exactly. He said there was a They. And I plan of discovering who They is. When I walked back to Slick, he was sitting at a table with Wally and Artemis.

"I'm not so sure." I said, sitting next to him.

"What do you mean?" Slick asked, his voice filled with concern.

"I literally am not sure." I began to explain what happened while Cole and I talked.

"He didn't tell you who They is though?" Artemis asked, and I answered with just a short nod.

"No..." I sighed. "But I'm going to figure it out."

"We all can." Slick said, his hand rested on my shoulder.

"Maybe it's about time we head back." Artemis said.

"Yeah. Let's go."

In the parking lot where we parked out motorbikes we tried starting the engines, with no avail.

"Dang it, these were working just fine when we left." Wally said.

"Yeah. Is it possible that someone messed with them?" I asked.

"I don't know. This is a pretty safe looking place." I said.

"But you never know what could be lurking in the shadows." Slick muttered.

"Now what? Call a tow truck? Ha." Wally sighed. "I can see if I can fix them." We sat next to the bikes as Wally fiddled away. We sat there for an hour until Wally got Artemis's bike up and running.

"There. One down, three to go." He slide under his own bike.

"What could have happened?" I asked.

"I'm not sure. Maybe someone did tamper with them." Artemis said. "But who knows who we really are?"

"Excuse me?" A man said walking up.

"Yeah?" Slick asked.

"I'm gonna have to ask you to come with me." A sneer flashed on his face. His fist flew out and landed across Slick's face causing him to tumble backward. It was like second nature to spring into a fighting stance. Wally was already behind him. But this guy, this guy was fast. I ran past him, socking him in the gut, but after I punched, he grabbed the back of my hoodie. He pulled my backwards sending my flying. Using my hand when I got close enough to the ground I pushed up flipping upright.

"Stance seven!" Artemis shouted. I ran up, and with Artemis's help I soared up. With a round house kick, I knocked the guy down.

"Who is this creep?" Slick asked. I realized that a trickle of red seeped from the side of his mouth. He wiped it away with the back of his hand.

"I don't know." But he stood back up. Artemis had pulled out the small crossbow hidden in her bike. With a net arrow, she trapped him to where he wouldn't get up.

"There. Wally how fast can you fix these? I'm going to call the BioShip." Artemis said. While we waited for the BioShip, Slick and I knocked the guy out. We checked his pockets and found a business card.

"Cadmus." I sneered. "I should have known."
