Our Interview with Robyn
Hello, everyone!
Today we have prose-punk the writer of "Bonedead" with us.
Warm regards, Robyn. Welcome to an official interview from @TheCRYPTIC_ . It's our honor to interact with an inspiring writer like you. We hope that you'll have a great time.
Same! I am more than pleased to be here, this is a delicious profile.
First of all, tell us how you stumbled upon Wattpad and when.
Oh, let's see. I stumbled upon Wattpad two years ago when I joined a writer's group on Tumblr. The main admin had a link to her Wattpad account, and I followed it. Before then, I bounced between FanFiction.com and their sister site FictionPress.
Fun fact: today, May 22, is actually my second anniversary.
Wow! So what do you think about THE CRYPTIC's theme? What are your views regarding dark fiction?
This place is home. I have always been drawn to the dark side. Things that are scary or disturbing make me laugh. As creepy as that sounds, gallows humor is a thing, and I think dark fiction is important. There's a "back door technique" to it, to use a literary term. Life and truth described in negation. For some people, the darkness is where they live 24/7. It should be shown.
What do you like to read? Do you have a favourite genre or any specific likes?
Historical fiction! And anything that can be mixed with it. Horror is my number one additive. I like to think I'll read anything, but I always skip the contemporary lit section...unless angels and demons are involved. To be super specific, I adore speculative fiction...there's magic in the ambiguity.
What compels you to pick up a pen and scribble down your thoughts? Do you have any inspiration or motivation?
Good storytelling turns me on. Can I say that, haha? TV shows, movies, song lyrics, books, beautiful photography, other people and their experiences. Interesting or mundane. My cousin just told me a childhood story about helping his mean uncle dehorn goats on a farm...you can bet that'll show up somewhere.
Being a writer, what's the easiest part of writing and which aspect do you consider the most challenging?
I'm an excellent mood-boarder. I can Pinterest a story and find songs for every character and every plot point.
Writing sucks. Just ask Hemingway.
What kind of environment do you prefer to write in?
With my life, I don't get to decide. Train, Plane, or Automobile. iPhone or napkin. But if I could fantasize: I'd be alone in a well-lit, airy room, aesthetically decorated in neutral tones with bohemian pillows and rugs everywhere. Some place warm. Maybe a plant or two for oxygen. Salt lamps and crystals and cleansing incense. A pair of shiny new Beats headphones and unlimited Spotify playlists. Endless, uninterrupted hours with no commitments.
Or sitting in Louisa May Alcott's bedroom at her desk. Yeah, I haven't thought about this at all...
What's your first piece of writing, if you can remember? What thoughts does it bring to you when you look back at it?
The earliest I can remember is at nine, I wrote a poem about my dad who did carpentry. All I think when I look at it now is: "wow, my handwriting hasn't changed."
Tell us about your growth as an author.
Love/Hate. That's my writing relationship. I spend most of my time running away from the pages. I think my biggest growth has been accepting that the act of writing is the hardest, scariest, part of myself and I just need to face it.
There's too much to learn, I'll never stop growing (I hope) and I love that.
I still can't spell.
Do you have a favorite author or book?
Brenna Yovanoff. I could read her southern-gothic Fiendish over and over again. And I have.
Besides writing, do you have any hidden talents?
I'm a self-taught video editor. Not professional by any means but I enjoy it. You can see some of my stuff at WimzeeVids on YouTube. I'm very public about it, haha.
You're sitting in front of a brand new aspiring writer, what do you say?
At the start, have fun. Revel in putting down on paper the world you want to live in. Don't obsess over being perfect. As the years pass and you're ready to grow, then start learning grammar and structure and voice and the politics of representation. Trust me, you'll need those fun-time memories to fall back on when you're ready to burn every piece of your work and do something easier, like be an astronaut.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Don't be afraid to tell us something funny, we won't tell.
Sleeping.
Netflixing.
Horseback riding.
Sleeping.
Now, the most awaited question of every young reader, do you have any childish habits? Do you like cartoons or chocolates?
I don't clean my room. Ever. And to quote Andy Dwyer: "I once forgot to brush my teeth for five weeks. I didn't actually sell my last car. I just forgot where I parked it. I don't know who Al Gore is and now I'm afraid to ask."
Do you prefer sweet or salty?
Salty. Especially salted sunflower seeds, because yes, I am Fox Mulder at heart.
It was nice talking to you. Thanks for your precious time. We really appreciate it and hope you'll prosper leaps and bounds.
Thank you for having me!

It's 1896, and victorian New York City is a wasteland. Dinosaurs that never went extinct run rabid and the human dead are rising.
Carmen Pérez Meza has lived her whole life in the slums under the El train, but when a mysterious illness desolates the streets, changing everything in its wake, Carmen must learn a different kind of survival.
