dna doesn't make a family
OLIVIA 'LIV' MOORE has always wanted kids. She always wanted a perfect husband, a white picket fence house with a wrap-around porch, and a perfect chair to sit out front with to drink lemonade in and watch her kids play in the yard. Two kids to be specific; a boy and a girl.
But that isn't what happened.
Instead, she went to a boat party without her fiancé — who she thought was the love of her life at the time — and got attacked by a zombie who scratched her. And not only that, but the girl she had adopted was with her and got scratched too.
That's when everything just went downhill.
Liv was stuck in her twenty-five year old body while Millie was stuck in her seventeen year old body. But not only that, they were stuck eating brains with hot sauce because those were the only two things in the world that they could taste.
Liv had to quit her job as a cardiothoracic surgery resident, and began to work in a morgue, that way she and her daughter Millie could eat brains without it being suspicious. And that's where they met their friend Ravi who also worked at the morgue... who also found out their secret pretty damn fast. From then on out, they had him as a friend.
Then, Liv couldn't keep to herself which resulted in her helping the local cops in investigations. They helped victims (Liv didn't want Millie to help but she did anyway) and they made a few more friends that had their backs.
But, of course, nothing is always bright and happy.
There was a really big case that Liv had to join with Clive who is a detective that they befriended. Him and Liv disappeared for longer than necessary, so Millie being Millie ended up eating some of the victims brain, and jumped in to help.
That resulted in her being stuck in the woods with some men who were psychopaths who had Clive and Liv trapped. She tried to distract them from her mom and Clive, but it all went wrong when she got caught in a bear trap they placed down. They then teamed up on her, beating her to a pulp, probably wanting to do other things to her.
That's not what happened, though.
She went on zombie-mode and tore into them. Limbs and blood was flying everywhere, getting all over the forest ground, all over her, and eventually all over Alaric who had been tracing her down.
You see, there is a spell that can light up placed where supernatural beings are. And he had currently found her mark and followed her. He hadn't expected to see her tearing into people like a rapid animal.
Right when he was about to kill her, Liv appeared upon hearing her daughter screaming out in pain; Ric had shot her a few times with his crossbow.
Mama bear Liv came to the rescue and attacked Alaric, breaking his weapon in half and pushing him against a tree. She turned to Millie and calmed down upon seeing the small blonde surrounded by dead bodies and her foot in a bear trap.
When Alaric got grounded, he panicked, and turned to see Liv comforting a sighing Millie. The younger girl had her head in her mothers chest, crying loudly and telling her, "it's not my fault", "I didn't mean to", "my control slipped". And the one that stuck out the most was, "I'm a monster," as she said it over and over into her mothers chest who began crying at her daughters pain.
Alaric soon realized what happened; the girl didn't have control over whatever abilities she had, and he calmly approached the mother and daughter duo, telling them of the Salvatore school.
It took two days before the agreed on Millie going; Liv didn't want to trust the man who had been previously shooting arrows at his daughter. It was Ravi and Clive — the detective was told by Millie about them being zombies, took him a week before coming to terms with it — that talked Liv into agreeing that Millie should go to the school to live life like a teenager and get a grip over her zombie abilities.
And that's where Liv was now; walking inside the school doors, trying to be sneaky to surprise her daughter.
She stepped toward the main area, and paused, eyes widening and mouth gaping open in surprise.
Lizzie came into view, running with Millie on her back, Josie chasing them with a scowl on her face.
They had just pulled a prank on the other witches that turned their skin to a purple color that won't go back to normal until twenty four hours are up.
Hope approached them, shaking her head and smiling fondly at Millie who jumped off of Lizzie's back and ran toward her with a big smile on her delicate face.
"Do you see what we did? Do you like it?" Hope nodded and slowly wrapped her arms around the blonde who pulled her into a tight hug.
Liv smiled, happy that her daughter was making friends and having a good time. "Well, I see that I wasn't missed much."
Everyone paused what they were doing and turned to her.
Millie let out a squeal as she let go of Hope, and started to run toward her. "Mom!" She jumped into her arms and the older woman twirled her around happily.
"Mom?!" Both twins exclaimed in shock, surprised by the fact that they were meeting their sister's adoptive mother who looked to much like Millie. It was probably the zombie genes, though.
Hope stared between them, a small but sad smile pulling onto her face, making her think of her own mother who she would never be able to hug anymore.
Caroline, who heard her daughters shout 'mom', sped into the room and paused upon seeing her eldest daughter hugging a woman who only must be the one who raised Millie. "Oh," she murmured upon seeing how happy they looked.
Millie jumped out of Liv's arms and grabbed her hand, still beaming. She skipped over to her sisters and biological mom, hair flowing behind her. "Mom, I want you to meet Elizabeth and Josette. They like to go by Lizzie and Josie. They are... my younger sisters." She looked at her mom's expression in the corner of her eye, slightly worried how the news would hit her. Liv went slack jawed and stared at the twins who smiled and waved shyly at her. "And this... woman... is my biological mother." She pointed to Caroline who forced a smile on her face and waved similarly like Lizzie and Josie at Liv. "Her name is Caroline."
"Oh..." Liv muttered, her eyes looking between the twins, and then to Caroline. She then between Millie and Caroline multiple times, noticing the similarities. The eyes, the nose, the hair. It was all identical. The lips were a little off, so was the shortness of Millie to Caroline's slightly taller frame. But, what got her was the age. Caroline looked to be seventeen, definitely not old enough to have a daughter of Millie's age. "But... you're young." Her eyes widened at her own words. "Not that... not that that's bad or anything. If anything... it's awesome. It's—"
"She does the thing Millie does!" Lizzie giggled, her hand holding Josie's as she looked between Millie and Olivia.
"Oh!" Liv exclaimed and then became sheepish. "How rude of me! I'm Olivia Moore. Well... Liv Moore."
Lizzie snorted, "Liv Moore? Live more? That's ironic and I love it."
Millie grinned at her younger sister. She feels relieved that they seem to like Liv, aka the woman who saved her life when she was twelve. If it hasn't been the generosity and braveness of the young doctor, Millie would've probably been killed by her faster father at the time. But no, Liv saw the damage, realized what was going on, and with little to no hesitation, adopted her. Sure, Liv's family didn't agree with the sudden decision, but Liv wouldn't argue. She rented a bigger apartment that could fit two people, made sure Millie had everything they could afford, and treated her like a child should be treated.
Six years later, Millie and Liv have a bond that's unbroken. They're not only mother and daughter, but also best friends. They will have each other's backs no matter what.
Liv grinned at the tall blonde. "That's what my boyfriend said when I first met him."
Millie turned to her mom quickly. "Boyfriend?"
Liv turned to her daughter and grabbed her hands, smiling widely and jumping up and down. "Boyfriend! His name is Lowell and he is so... deliciously handsome it's unreal. He's also a zombie, as well. And he treats me amazingly. Although, just a week after we started talking, hd was on a gay brain which threw me off completely because I thought he was tagging me along. But nope! I have a zombie boyfriend!"
Millie squealed loudly and jumped with her mother in excitement. "I want to meet him!"
"He couldn't come, he just started working with Clive as a detective in training because of a case he helped us on. But enough of him for right now! I want to know all about this place! And all about your biological family. Which, speaking of..." Liv let go of her daughters hand and stepped closer to Caroline who was watching the mother daughter duo with a sad smile. "Hello! I'm Olivia Moore, Millie's adoptive mother, which you already knew, but um, yeah! Hi."
Caroline smiled and pulled the woman into a hug. "I cannot tell you how happy I am that my — that Millie came to be your daughter. I don't know what I would've done if she got someone bad." She didn't see the distant look in Liv's eyes or the way Millie's smile almost dimmed.
Hope did. The tribrid frowned and clenched her hands into fists at her sides as she thought about someone potentially hurrying Millie. It angers and pains her to think about the tiny blonde being in any sort of pain or danger.
Liv smiled and hugged the woman back. "She wasn't always mine, but the moment I laid my eyes on her, I just had to protect her. And since then, I have stayed by that. Well... I tried to." She stepped back and Millie pulled her into a hug, breathing in her scent. Even dead, they still have distinct smells. "The whole zombie thing took us by surprise."
"Us, too." Caroline nodded, wiping away a tear that had fallen from her eye. "We knew all about vampires, witches, and werewolves. But... zombies. We didn't know they existed until you and... your daughter."
"She's your daughter, too," Liv told Caroline with a small smile. "I might be very protective and greedy when it comes to her. But, I know the pain that you had to go through with giving birth to her. She's as much yours as she is mine." She placed a delicate kiss on Millie's head. "Although..." she sighed, "I want to know why you gave her up."
Caroline swallowed thickly. "I... my dad wasn't really... nice when he found out I was pregnant at sixteen. And the father of Millie... he shall not ever be named, ever... well, he wasn't exactly nice either when he found out about Millie. And because I didn't want an abortion, his parents soon found out and disowned him when they found out he..." she shook her head. "Anyway, the way she was conceived wasn't the best of my past, and we don't have to worry about him because he's not around to do anything about it. And my father, he forced me to get rid of her. He almost killed me when he found out that I was going to keep her, and physically hurt me to send her away."
The Forbes girl clenched her jaw, trying to not cry at the old memories. "I tried to track her down, but my father went behind my back and moved her from the place he first wanted me to send her to. And then, after that, things got in the way and I just didn't think it was safe. And then I had the twins, and I used everything in my power to try and track Millie down, but everything I got back told me she was dead. I think my father found a witch to hide her," she admitted quietly, "before he died. At first I thought it was because she was a zombie, but she only turned a year ago, so that's not plausible. I think he hired or threatened a witch to do his evil bidding." She wiped away a few tears and was pulled into a hug by the twins who were silently crying for their mother.
"You didn't... you didn't tell me the full story," Millie whispered before joining the group hug, crying into Caroline's chest. "I'm so sorry for everything they put you through."
Liv looked down, sniffling, trying to wipe away the few tears that had escaped her eyes. "I'm so sorry for everything that has happened to you, Caroline. You didn't deserve any of that."
Hope crossed her arms over her chest, looking around the room, eyes stinging from holding bask tears. She didn't know if she should stay standing there or leave so the family could have their moment. But, the moment she went to walk away, Millie made eye contact with her, and she held her breath.
"Oh! How rude of me!" Millie pulled away from the group hug, everyone wiping away their tears and sniffling. She walked towards Hope, giving her a small encouraging smile. "Mom, this is Hope." She delicately gripped Hope's wrist and slowly walked her toward Liv who looked between them with raised brows and a small smile.
Liv can immediately tell by the smile Hope aims at Millie, and the way Millie hold Hope delicately like a flower, that they have cute crushes on one another.
They spent the rest of the day together. Liv got to know the twins and Caroline really well, and vise versa. She also got to know a bit about Hope, like how she's a tribrid who loves to pain and bake (which she all learned from Millie which had Hope blushing). And she got to tell Hope a few embarrassing stories about Millie just because she loved the way Hope would just smile softly and giggle at Millie's blushing face.
It was a perfect day.
