Chap. 3 Book Theif

I knocked on the door of what I believed to be my teammate's apartment. It opened to reveal a pretty girl about my age with lavender hair and blue eyes. "Can I help you, miss?" I thought I would put my training to use for this.

"You may call me (Y/n). May I ask where Fukuda Daisuke is?"

"Ah, yes, he's here. Are you... his teammate?" She asked.

"I am." I gave a slight nod. "(L/n)(Y/n)." I gave a bow.

"E-Enough of that. Come on in, I'm sure Daisuke will be happy to see you."

"Thank you." I said as I stepped in and she closed the door behind me.

"How rude of me... My name is Akina."

"Very nice to meet you, Akina-san." I gave her a gentle smile. 'Man, all of this polite stuff is weird, but there's no way I'm going to give Daisuke's girlfriend a bad impression.'

"Who's here?" A deep voice said as a door opened and a man entered the room. His eyes widened, "(Y/n)?"

I smiled, "Hello, Daisuke."

"Uh... Well, hello, but... I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it's been two years... You've changed."

"So have you."

"I'll make some tea. I'm sure Daisuke would love to hear some stories from your travels." Akina said, walking toward the kitchen.

Daisuke gestured for me to sit on the chair, and so began our conversation.

*******

After I spoke to Daisuke, I decided to find Naruto. But... I saw Kakashi-sensei on the streets of Konoha. I had to mess with him, now that he was home, what if he heard it from someone else first? That wouldn't be any fun...

So Naruto would have to wait a bit...

I smirked as I stole his favorite book from his hand, but I hoped I was too quick for him to recognize me. I turned down another street as soon as I heard footsteps behind me. I evaded him by using a Henge.

I slowed my pace drastically, considering my disguise was now an old lady. It took Kakashi about ten minutes to even catch up to me, and beyond that, he looked completely distraught.

"Excuse me, mam, have you seen a younger woman with dark hair?" He asked me.

In my best feeble voice, I answered, "Why, I believe I saw her run that way."

"Thank you..." He took off in the direction I pointed in.

I smirked as he left. 'That was easier than I expected...' I released the Jutsu as soon as I got out of the street, but I kind of- admittedly, *sigh* -wanted to get caught, so I thought I'd follow him for a bit. Eventually, his pace slowed, but he continued to scan the area. As he walked through a large crowd, I slipped into it, but going in the opposite direction, so he was bound to see me.

Third Person's P.O.V.

Just as he was beginning to give up, Kakashi did a double-take as he saw the woman who stole his book, but he didn't recognize her as his student. He reached for her arm, but she slipped away from him. He ran after her as she took off, and this time, he was sure not to lose her.

He cut her off as they reached the third training ground, landing in front of her with an unhappy glare. He was only about a foot and a half in front of her by the time she stopped completely, which made her realize how intimidating he could be, considering that he was about seven inches taller than her.

"Give me my book. And tell me why you took it in the first place."

Her eye twitched. "I'm disappointed in you."

His eye widened, "Excuse me?" Kakashi was taken aback.

"I thought, out of everyone, you would be most likely to recognize me." She threw his book at his chest, "Here's your damn book."

He caught the book before it could fall, and as he stared into the eyes of the thief that took it, he was still clueless. "Who are you?"

"Million dollar question. Let me know when you figure it out." She turned on her heel.

"(Y/n)." She turned back around to see his surprised expression.

"It's not every day you catch the Copy Ninja off guard..."

"Why didn't you just say it was you?"

"Takes the fun out of it. You should've recognized me anyway..." She muttered.

He sighed, placing his book in his weapons pouch. "Well, your hair is black, and... you're not wearing a mask." He only just realized her face was unmasked. It only now dawned on him that the last time he saw her maskless, the only time, was when she was in a coma.

"Yeah, well, I stopped wearing it when Jiraiya made me do this stupid and cruel training for five months."

"You'll have to tell me about it sometime. But right now, I need to go report on my mission."

"Bye, Sensei..."

"Later."

******

Later that day, (Y/n) heard from Izumo that Kenji was home.

Kenji failed to recognize her, just like everyone else. "Huh? Whad'ya want, lady?"

The two were in a book store, in the adult section, because that's where (Y/n) found him.

"I was going to ask you if you knew which of these might be better?" She held up two books.

"Ah... well, I've only read that one... it was okay, but so far, Icha Icha Paradise is better than any of the others..." As he said this, he had a steadily growing blush on his face.

"Oh, I see... I'll have to read that one, then. Thank you, Kenji." She picked one of the orange books up from the shelf.

"Huh? How'd'ya know my name?"

"Hm? I don't know your name..." She walked toward the cashier's desk.

Kenji shrugged and resumed his shopping, and, for once, (Y/n) decided to leave it alone. She figured it would probably be more comical if he figured it out later anyway.

(Y/n)'s P.O.V.

I walked through Konoha on my third day being home and spotted Jiraiya and Kakashi talking.

"Hey, guys!" I greeted.

Jiraiya looked between us, "Did you recognize her?"

"Well, yes..."

"Oh, please. I dropped every hint, and it took you entirely too long."

Kakashi smirked enough that you could make it out even though he was wearing a mask, "I want to hear about this cruel and unusual training Jiraiya made you do."

"Cruel and unusual?" Jiraiya asked, raising a brow. "You trained as a Geisha! I see it didn't help your attitude, and indecent behavior."

"They made me stop wearing a mask!"

"It was supposed to make you a refined lady. That's what the poster said."

"Tch! I'm a Ninja. There aren't many of us that are 'refined' and 'lady-like'."

Jiraiya sighed, "I give up. Go ahead with your vulgar language and ungraceful approach to life. Don't be surprised when you can't find a good boyfriend."

"Right. Cause you know all about being graceful and finding love in your own life."

His eyes widened, "Hey! I'm an esteemed writer. I don't have time for-"

"Oh, yes, you're married to your work. Whatever. That's just an excuse." I folded my arms.

He grumbled something under his breath.

"So, (Y/n), have you had time to find your teammates yet?" Kakashi-Sensei asked.

"Oh, yeah, but Kenji didn't realize it was-" I was cut off as I was attacked from my right.
