Chapter 46
Two days later.
"Are you sure you want to do this?"
"Yes"
"Ok let's go."
Twenty-five minutes later.
Cullayne and Lamais POV
After we were searched, we were led into a room where Bounty sat his hands cuffed to a metal ring welded on the table bolted to the floor.
His eyes bore into me as I walked to the table and sat in the vacant chair across from him. He said nothing as I sat there or as my mother came to stand beside me.
"Look like yuh nuh have nobody fi read," he finally said his voice coming out snuffed as his face was heavily bandaged.
"I am here because am not looking for someone to read Andrew, am here because I need your help," I told him trying to pull my mind off the events that took place two days ago.
He tried to laugh but he winced instead. He had a gunshot wound to his shoulder and Indian had beaten him badly before Inspector Gregory and a few police officers had showed up.
"Listen I can't go against what God wants me to do," I told him. "When I first met you in my mother's shop a little over a week ago I found myself taken to a level I have never been with anyone. I told you what God said."
He snickered before righting himself to stare intently at me. "I ain't the prodigal son. I had no one influencing me. I wanted power so I went and took it."
"You became the Don by default Andrew, your power was never attained it was just given over due to a turn in events," My mother told him finally speaking.
I knew she was dead set against what I had planned but if I went against God's plans I would never come to terms with myself for neglecting God's purpose for the man in front of me.
I was just happy she trusted me enough to believe what I told her last night after coming from the hospital. I took comfort from her being here seeing that Bounty had robbed her of her beloved Church.
I had enough time sitting by Kemar's hospital bed and seeking God's guidance to know this was the way to go. When he had listened to me thing him what God had placed on my heart he had gripped fingers and squeezed it assuringly.
"You did everything because you believed that the child who was abused, neglected and ill-treated needed the man you became to right the wrongs done to him by heartless selfish persons.
I saw you pulled the trigger as if I were there the day you killed your Uncle. I felt the bullets riddled my body as if it was me because you felt them as they pumped from your gun. You thought it would have atleast given you some satisfaction but it left you empty instead."
He shifted uncomfortably in the chair but remained silent.
"You told yourself that day Bounty was born and Andrew had died, but I am here to tell you Andrew needs to be free because there a boys out there who need him to save them from the destruction, the fear, and the hopelessness of their situation.
Don't give up on Andrew and stop giving up on God He hasn't given up on you. You could have died on numerous occasions, two days ago being one of them but here you are."
The events were still fresh in my mind and I knew it was in his. I would have liked it if it had not taken the death of the two thugs and Lenky as well as Kemar badly hurt along with Odekie's cousin's thirst for revenge to put things into perspective but God does things how He sees fit.
"You're in prison facing charges that will see you being locked away for years but that won't stop you from making a difference. By having you working with Bishop Riley and his team of missionaries getting the youths of White House on the right path will gradually become a permanent fixture to taking our community where it ought to be.
Don't let them end up being the casualty of a war that needs to end. We need mentors like you who have been there to work and guide the wayward boys we are aiming to provide a better way of life for."
There was nothing more that I could say to him without sounding like a broken record. Andrew aka Bounty just needed to give in the conviction that he was alive to make a difference
The officer came to us telling us that our time was up and I felt my heart sink because I was not sure I had gotten through to the man who sat quietly across from me.
I rose and made for the door telling myself I tried. I was through the door when I realised my mother was not beside me. I turned to go back in but the door was locked.
I felt myself starting to panic then a peace came over me. Lamais was ready to do her part.
I waited until the police had locked the door behind Laynie before I spoke to Bounty. I have known him for quite a while and had the privilege to have him come by to do maintenance about my yard.
I studied him for a bit then asked God to put the right words on my lips. When I began to speak his swollen eyes never left mine.
My mother and siblings never see me as one of then because I was a Read-er Woman like my grandmother. They tried in many ways to break me but I held steadfast to God's will and His purpose for my life. Until you accept that God made you for a purpose you'll always be that lost little boy and the angry misguided man.
The devil might have deformed you but through the blood of Jesus Christ Andrew, you can be transformed. You have a purpose, you have a legacy."
I handed him my old Bible that I had been allowed to take in with me and then left. Laynie rushed up to me with questioning eyes.
"Come on let's get you home."
"Bu---"
"Everything is going to be alright."
