Chapter 58 - Part II
Screams.
Shouts.
Yells.
Hisses.
Growls.
And howls.
All these are the things that I walked into. I looked to my right, and there was Charles' light brown wolf decapitating vampires in a speed that I've never seen him exhibit before. Part of his fur was tainted dark brown, most likely the blood of the vampires he killed.
To my left were Hazel and Noah, the former in her human form, partially shifted, with her mate fighting alongside her in his wolf form, taking down as many vampires as they could handle.
Everyone was fighting, there was blood everywhere, body parts were scattered all over the garden as the wolves kept on ripping the vampires apart, limb to limb. But the vampires weren't the only ones whose bodies were dispersed across the ground, we had causalities on our end too. Werewolves bodies, albeit fewer than the vampires were strewn across as well.
It was a carnage, and one that would definitely catch the eye of the council should word get out. The vampires and werewolves have a peace treaty, and if the council got wind of the chaos happening here, we will all be doomed. Not even the moon goddess can save us then, or whatever goddess the vampires believed in.
''Athena, watch out!'' I hear Michelle's' shout from behind me just before a vampire sucker-punched me to the ground. Before I could even react, he had me pinned down. He straddled me and wrapped his cold fingers around my neck.
I felt something hard between my thighs and immediately squirmed. Eww, I didn't know vampires could do that. ''I see you're enjoying this,'' I smirk at the 'straddler', trying my best not reveal my actual sentiments. He hisses in my face and puts more pressure on my neck.
Just as I was about to thrust my hand into his ribcage and rip out his heart, I heard a blood curling snarl and in less than five seconds, a grey wolf soared through the air and separated the 'straddlers' head from his shoulders, leaving me to bear the brunt of the headless body. Blood begun to spatter from what I'm guessing was the man's throat, and it covered half of my arm.
''Eww, disgusting!'' I push the headless body off me and dust myself up only to find Ethan's wolf holding the head in its jaws. ''I was taking care of it Ethan!'' I glare at the grey wolf, but all it does is spit the head out and grin at me, showing off its blood-stained canines.
''Whatever, I'll deal with you later,'' and with that I turned my back on my brother and called my wolf forward. She was more than delighted to join the party and was ready to kill. As I finished shifting and now stood on fours, I heard a loud gasp from somewhere at the back. Didn't take a genius to know that it came from Nancy. I'll deal with her later too.
For now, all I saw was red. Glancing at my mate one last time, I released a loud howl before running headfirst into the fight. I killed the first three vampires with ease and moved on to the next. My main concern however was Amunet, she was nowhere to be found. Not her, nor the male model I saw about an hour ago.
''Has anyone seen Amunet?'' I mind link the rest of the gang.
''Nope, not since she led the charge,'' came Michelle's response.
It's great that you've let your wolf out, Athena. We rarely get to see it,'' Sean's voice filters through the link.
''You weren't added to the link to throw compliments. Concentrate on the fight,'' Michelle scolds her younger brother.
The link goes silent after that, so I guess no one has seen Amunet. Since I was paying more attention to the conversations in my head instead of the fight, I had somehow walked into a well laid trap by the vamps. It was only when one of them hissed at me, did I realize I was surrounded by five vampires, who had formed a circle around me.
Three.....two.....and.....one.
The first one jumped in the air and came down on me. I caught his leg before he could touch the ground and snapped my jaws around it. His tortured scream was music to my ears as I finally separated his leg from the rest of his body. The other four vampires were quick to attack and latched on to me like leeches.
I shake one off and stomp my paw on him after throwing him to the ground. Making sure my claws dug into him deep. Deep enough for him to never get up again.
''You bitch,'' another one wraps his hands around my wolf's neck and tries to squeeze it, but instead gave me the perfect opportunity to bite down his arm, what an idiot. He screams and his grip around my neck immediately loosens as he falls to the ground, writhing in pain from the poison. I wanted to smirk and say something snarky, but all I could manage in this form was a snarl.
Eh well, you can't have it all.
Leaving him to his death, I turn to my last two attackers, one of whom had the courtesy of biting me in my hind leg. What, did he think his 'vampire bite' was going to have the same effect on me like the werewolf one does on them?
Somebody really needs to educate these people.
The last two vampires were now standing opposite me, both in attack stances, when their eyes suddenly flicker behind me and widen a tad bit. I felt the presence of the new wolf before it appeared and stopped by my side, blood dripping from its canines, making it look more menacing. The new wolf snarls at the two males who take a step back in fear.
Okay, hold up!
Just because a male wolf shows up, they suddenly fear it. What am I then, a unicorn of some sort who throws around glitter and gallops through rainbows?
They can call me bitch, and bite me, and even attack me five at a time just because I'm a female and they want to assert their dominance over me, but the moment a male appears they suddenly back away from fear, because he is supposedly stronger and more fearful?
Without a warning, a low growl escapes me and I begin to stalk towards the two vampires. Exposing my canines as well. I'm not going to let some male just walk in and interrupt my fight.
The two vampires' eyes widen even more as they flicker between me and the grey wolf. Who, by the way was not Ethan's. This wolf was grey, yes, but it had a spot of black fur right in the middle of its head.
''Athena....'' a familiar masculine voice buzzes in my head as the wolf trains its eyes on me.
''Leo? '''Oh, so that's what his wolf looks like. ''What the heck do you think you're doing?''
''Saving you from them.''
''Uhh, I can do that very well on my own,'' My wolf grunts, which was the human version of a snort.
''No, you cannot. I saw you struggling to shake them off you. That's why I came.'' He replies and takes another step towards the vampires, who by now had already fled and Leo here, has not even noticed that since his eyes are on me, my wolf rather.
''They've left,'' I tell him and without paying much attention to his reaction, trot away from him.
My wolf was pissed at him for denying her a kill, truth to be told so was I, but it seemed like he wasn't done with us as I noticed him following. ''What....'' I stop in my tracks and snap at him, ''.....do you want now!?''
''I was just trying to help you.''
''No, you were trying to undermine me!'' my wolf takes a step forward and snarls at his. ''I was handling it.''
''Yeah right, it didn't look like you could.''
What is the matter with this guy, does he always underestimate women like so? If this is how he treats the women in life, I'm so glad he doesn't have a mate, goddess knows how he'll treat her.
''In case you didn't notice, there were five of them before you came. Look around Leo, two of them are already dead and one-'' I turn my head in the direction of where the bitten vampire was lying, writhing in pain, ''-is on the verge of dying. So no, I did NOT need your help.''
''Okay, so I guess I misjudged,'' he replies, looking around at the vampires, ''but I can help.''
''Haven't you helped enough?'' I snap at him again.
''I'm sorry for that, but I can help you find Amunet,'' my attention peaked, and I eye the alpha standing in front of me warily.
''How so?''
''I saw her going inside the manor, follow me.''
I stared at his back for a few seconds longer, the 'follow me' command not sitting well with my wolf, the pride of an alpha coming in the way. It was an internal battle that lasted almost forty five seconds before I trotted after Leo.
''Took you long enough,'' he speaks through the mind link. If we were in our human forms, I'm sure he would be smirking right now.
''Oh yeah, pride, self-respect and all, you know, the usual.''
''Very funny, Athena.''
I look behind at the raging chaos which is showing no signs of stopping soon. The vampires just kept coming in and I'm sure everyone else would be tired by now. I don't know how long we could keep this up. I couldn't see Theo inside the shield, but then again, I couldn't see Selene, Nancy or Jayden too. There were just too many beings in the middle, some dead, some alive and fighting, some being flung in the air like frisbees.
''Athena, come on,'' Leo's wolf comes close, too close for my liking, and nudges me in the side.
My wolf releases a huff, and we walk away from the alpha, towards the side door of the manor, which was slightly ajar. ''We need to shift back,'' I tell him.
''Wait......'' he stops me, ''I have a few of my pack members on guard around here, let me ask someone to bring us clothes.''
Crap!
I had not even thought about that. Imagine what would've happened if I had shifted back. Leo would have seen me naked and imagine Theo's reaction to that!!! The chaotic side of me wanted to do just that, to garner Leo's reaction and then purposely let it slip to Theo. Shield or not, Theo would find a way out and march his way up here to wring Leo's neck and probably mine too.
Should I? Should I just do it? Should I for once give in to my chaotic side?
But before I had the chance to make my decision, Leo, who I didn't know had left in the first place, returned with a small bag in his mouth and drops it at my feet. We somehow manage to open the zipper of the bag using our teeth. He then separates the male clothes from the female ones and pushes them towards me.
I scoop the clothes in my mouth and walk behind one of Amunet's knights to change. It wasn't much, just a pair of black leggings and long sleeved, striped t-shirt. ''Great, no shoes,'' I grumble after shifting back.
''Athena, you done?'' Leo's voice comes from somewhere nearby.
''Yeah. You couldn't add shoes to your packages?''
''They must have forgotten to in this bag,'' he replies back.
''Of course, just my luck,'' I roll my eyes and walk out from behind the knight. ''Let's go.''
We tip toe our way into the manor. I hiss as my feet touch the cold concrete floor, ''some shoes would be really nice right now,'' I roll my eyes at the American alpha, who is in nothing but a pair of lose fitting pants.
''I'll make sure to pack a dozen the next time,'' he retorts, the sarcasm very evident in his voice.
''Let's hope there is no next time.''
After that we pretty much kept to ourselves as we tip toed around the manor. We both were sniffing the air, looking for any signs of Amunet, but we got nothing except the general rotting smell of the vampires.
''Let me know if you hear heartbeats,'' I whisper to Leo as we come to the end of another long corridor.
''Why would I hear heartbeats, they are all dead anyway, aren't they?'' he whispers from across me, the both of us leaning against opposite walls, peeping to see if the coast was clear.
''Just do it,'' I snap at him for the third time tonight, I think. The dude just asks a lot of questions, can't he simply do as he's told. Of course he can't, because he is a misogynistic alpha who only knows how to give orders and think of women as lower beings who cannot do the bare minimum without the help of a man.
''Why are you looking at me like that?''
''Like what?'' I peep around the wall again and beckon him to follow me. He surprisingly does not complain this time and moves to stand behind me.
''Like you want to kill me,'' his hot breath fans my neck, indicating just how close he was. I roll my eyes at his antics and continue marching forward with him still following me.
''It's a big manor you know, there is a lot of space. You can walk without shadowing me,'' I suddenly stop in my tracks as I realize we've reached at what looks like the courtyard of the manor.
Leo however didn't notice me stopping and rammed right into my back. His huge form pushing me forwards right in the middle of the courtyard. ''Watch it!'' I hiss at him, but his eyes are focused on something behind me, or rather someone.
''Athena Robinson, first alpha female to live in, what is it, two hundred years?'' A smooth voice that would make any girl swoon echoes through the walls. I look around trying to find the owner of the voice, but it seems to be coming from everywhere.
''Boo!''
Someone suddenly appears in front me. His eyes black with veins underneath and his fangs out. I stare at him in disgust, his rotten stench so sharp, it almost made my eyes water. This was the same vampire who looked like a model, sadly I cannot say the same now.
''Amunet didn't do you justice, you're beautiful,'' he lifts a hand up and drawls one finger down my cheek. ''It's a pity you have to die, I'm Raphael by the way.''
I caught his hand before he could drop it and grasp it tightly. He winces a little, but it's immediately replaced by a smirk. ''feisty, are we?''
''Go to hell!'' I put extra pressure on his arm, the breaking of his bones echo around the empty walls and my wolf couldn't be happier. Raphael falls to his knees, his free hand clutching the broken one, but I wasn't done yet. I kicked him in the stomach hard and when he was finally lying on the floor like the pathetic loser that he is, I kicked him one last time and he slid across the concrete floor, hitting the curb in the process.
''Hold him down, I don't want him getting up!"' I order Leo who was still standing in the dark corridor. ''Leo, get your ass out here!'' I shout when he doesn't come out.
Raphael groans in pain while he tries to get up, but Leo reaches him first and pins him back to the ground. ''Now what?'' he looks up at me as I approach them.
''Now we snap his neck, that should keep him out of our way for like fifteen minutes.''
''W-what?'' The American alpha gasps, his eyes wide like saucers.
''Have you ever fought vampires before?'' I ask him, the irritation in my voice evident. ''You know what, never mind. I don't have time for this.'' I wave my hand. ''Keep him down, I'll do it.''
Raphael struggles against Leo's hold, but the alpha had him properly pinned down. At least he is doing one thing right. ''Sleep tight,'' I smirk at Amunet's friend and hold his head between my hands before twisting it.
Crack!
''There we go,'' I dust my hands and get up. ''Come on now, Amunet's not here, she's outside.''
''How do you know?'' Leo follows me out.
''He was the distraction,'' I simply reply.
''You didn't kill him, why?''
''She's already out for my blood because I killed her brother, you think I want to keep making the list longer by killing the people close to her?''
''Ahh, point,'' he clicks his tongue, and we continue jogging to the backyard where everyone else was. Turns out we were really deep inside the manor and the route we used to get out, brought us to the front, where the garden was. So we had to circle the entire manor to get to the back.
''Goddess, it's like a labyrinth,'' Leo huffs as we approach the backyard.
''Wait,'' I halt him, ''something's not right.''
''The fighting has stopped,'' he whispers to me after a few seconds.
It had indeed, it's so quite at the moment, the only sound that could be heard was of the crickets chirping away in the night and rustle and bustle of leaves every time a light breeze blew. ''This cannot be good,'' I breathe out and run towards where we had left everyone earlier.
''About time you showed up, I was getting bored waiting for you!'' Amunet exclaims as soon as Leo and I emerge through the neatly trimmed thick bushes. Say what you want about Amunet, but the woman sure does maintain her garden well.
''Ahhh,'' her eyes light up with malice as soon as she spots Leo next to me, ''you went for a little rendezvous in the manor I see,'' then her eyes flicker to Theo, feigning innocence ''would you like to say something about this, darling?''
Theo, Selene, Jayden and Nancy are still in the shield and so is the rest of the gang. Selene somehow managed to extend her magic. Apart from Leo, everyone else was inside her shield, though from the strained look on her face, I doubt she'll be able to hold it for long.
''Stop it!'' I face the vampire, ''stop playing mind games and get to the point, I'm done going back and forth with you. Enough is enough!!!''
''Yes, yes, I feel the same way too, why don't we end this, huh?'' she takes a menacing step forward and smirks at me before snapping her fingers. ''Bring them out!"
My eyes flicker to the right where a small group of people are approaching us. As they get closer, I notice someone floating about in wisps of black, if I'm not mistaken, that's magic and then, wait, were those children?
''No!'' I hear a small gasp from a few meters away, and not even seconds later, the shield drops.
''Now that's more like it!'' Amunet claps in glee.
I avert my gaze to the vampires who were holding five children by their collars and pushing them forward and then to Selene whose eyes have widened in horror. The shield has disappeared completely leaving them all exposed. I notice Theo move closer to Nancy in an attempt to shield her. Our eyes meet briefly, and he nods at, just I as do the same.
We were good, him and me. We were okay, he did not believe any of the crap Amunet spewed just moments ago. With that thought now out of mind, I face the vampire, who seems to be enjoying the show currently going on .
''Well Athena, what are you going to do now that your friends are all exposed and there is nothing keeping me and my people here from rolling their heads?''
''You wouldn't dare!'' I growl out, though part me knows that she would. A woman who shows no mercy to her own kind would wipe out mine in a matter of seconds. I need to stop answering her on impulse and be smart.
''Oh, but I would,'' and before any one of us could stop her, she zaps to the closet werewolf she could find and sinks her teeth into the girl's throat. The young warrior, who I realized was from Sean's pack screams in agony, her strength no match against the 600-year-old vampire who was draining her.
No one moved.
Sean however, had his fists balled, and the only thing keeping him in place was Michelle's intense glare. We all just watched as Amunet sucked the life out of the poor girl and dropped her body to the ground like a rag doll.
''You lot may stink, but your blood sure is tasty,'' she smacks her lips and wipes her mouth with the back of her hand. ''Now, where were we?'' she smirks, ''ahh yes, Athena,'' she takes one step forward, here gaze piercing into mine, take your pick.''
''Of what?'' I eye her suspiciously, flexing my fingers, every fiber in my body was burning with uncontainable rage. My eyes kept flashing as my wolf tried to take over. She was fuming and wanted nothing more than to sink her canines into the vampire's throat. It was taking me a lot of strength and willpower to keep her down, and Amunet here, was not helping.
I could even feel the anger radiating from Leo, who was standing a few feet behind me, ready to attack whenever necessary.
''Tell your boy toy to stand down, I have no interest in him,'' she waves her hand, ''and all of them too, they are particularly useless,'' she glances around at the rest of my friends.
I glance at Leo on my right and nod at him, then to Charles and the rest, ''it's okay.'' They all relax slightly, but are still on alert, just in case things go south. ''Look, I know your issue is with me, so let's end this woman to woman, just me and-'''
''ahhh, ahhh, ahhh.....'' she lifts a finger and stops me, ''not so fast Athena. You were my target for months indeed, but then-'' her eyes flicker to Theo, ''-that is a mighty fine mate you have there.''
''NO!!'' I yell and run up to her, square in the face, ''you touch him, and you will pay, I swear on the moon goddess!''
''But what's got your feathers ruffled?'' she smirks, surprisingly calm. ''you've got your back up, haven't you?''
''He. Is. Not. My. Back up,'' I growl at her, my patience wearing thin. ''You lay a hand on Theo and I swear you will not see the sunrise!"
''Very well then, the artsy assistant it is,'' and in a flash she appears next to Nancy, but Theo was there waiting for her. He growls maliciously, grabs her by the throat and throws her across the lawn as she once again crashes into the armors. They sure would have dents by now.
''Theo!'' I run to my mate, but Amunet is up on her feet in an instant, and before I could get to him, she grabs me by my hair and yanks me back.
''Athena!!!'' my mate shouts, his outstretched hand catching nothing but air.
''Where do you think you are going?'' Amunet's grip on my hair tightens and she hisses in my ear, ''I'm not done with you.''
I grit my teeth from the pain she's inflicting on me, and my hand finds her pale one that's wrapped around my hair. I try to grab it, but she sees it coming and with her other free hand, twists my arm.
A horrifying scream echoes the night, and it was only when I felt warm tears roll down my cheeks, did I realize the scream came from me. Amunet had broken my arm and she was now dragging me by the hair, away from Theo.
''You're going to choose who I kill, Athena.'' She drops me on the ground and kicks me in the stomach. ''Theo or Nancy, '' she crouches in front of me and grabs my face, forcing me to look at her, ''your mate or your human friend.''
I glance around the area and every one of my friends is on edge.
Charles is visibly shaking with rage, Ethan has unshed tears in his eyes, Michelle is trying hard not to show any emotion, but the twitch in her eyes betray her, as is Sean, whose face is so red, it rivals a tomato. Hazel and Noah are holding hands, but there is rage burning within that wants to be unleashed. Selene on other hand looks defeated, her mind conflicted on whether to help me and sacrifice the children she cared for or to save the children and let me suffer. Our eyes met briefly and shoots me an apologetic look to which I nod, the both of us coming to an understanding.
Finally, my gaze lands on my brazen mate, who is still standing protectively in front of Nancy together with Jayden. One look at Theo's face and I knew what he was about to do.
''Theo don't!'' I warn him, and somehow managed to get up. My arm had already begun to heal, but the process was too slow for me, so I grabbed my broken hand and twisted it, bringing the bone back in place. The pain that I felt is something I would not want to wish on anyone, except Amunet maybe. Nevertheless, I bit on my lip hard so as not to yell, I think I drew blood too, but who cares, my arm was fixed.
''You......'' I stagger up to the vampire, who was looking at Theo keenly, a bit too keenly if you ask me and grab her by the shoulders, ''are not going to make me choose, you get that!''
She was certainly shocked by my sudden appearance, but what surprised her even more was the punch I aimed at her stomach that she did not see coming. Her vampires, who were lazing around, immediately go on alert and are ready to attack.
''If any one of you so much as sneeze, I will bite her down and leave her here to die. Go ahead, try me!"' I threaten the vampires, my eyes flashing red and my claws out at the ready. Most of them took to my threat well and stood down, but a few tried to be smart.
''Charles!''
All I had to do was shout his name, and my beta sprung to action. A small struggle ensued between him and the four vampires, but I trusted him to handle it while I focused on Amunet.
''You think you can make me choose,'' I kick her, and she stumbles to the ground. The taste of my own blood in my mouth and the dull ache at the back of my head fueled my rage. ''I'm so done playing around Amunet and I am, very, very angry!" I grab her by the throat and lift her up.
The more I put pressure on her neck, the more she chokes and struggles. Her feet flailing in the air, a few feet from the ground. I once again throw her across the yard, which seems to be my favorite thing to do this evening.
She lands in the bushes this time not too far away from the where witch children were. The kids screamed and scattered away from there, which got me wondering where their vampire bodyguards were.
Turns out a brawl had already begun, and everyone was now involved in the fight. My one mistake was that I looked back to see if everyone I cared about was still alive, and if it weren't for Theo's sudden appearance by my side, I would be dead on the ground by now with a spear sticking out of me.
''Love, you really need to pay attention,'' he states as he now fights off Amunet, who had somehow managed to get hold of a spear. As Theo tried to get her to lose the spear, I kept on coming at her with punches and kicks, but the woman was made of steel.
''You two are kids,'' she chuckles through her now bloodstained teeth, ''your strength is nothing compared to mine!'' Her grip on the spear tightens and I watch as she raises her arm to throw it at someone.
''Theo, watch out!" I yell at my mate who is in her line of sight and jump on him to push him out of the way.
''This one is on you Athena!" she cackles and throws the spear right across the yard all the way to where Jayden and Nancy were.
The spear found it's mark and I heard someone gasp and choke.
A strangled sound escaped me as soon as I turned, ''NOOOOOOO!!'' I fell to my knees, clutching my stomach in dread as tears rolled down, the scene in front of me was so horrifying, I could not even look at it.
The fighting around me ceased and everyone's gaze swept towards the podium where Jayden was standing, his form trembling, and his hands covered in blood. His eyes met mine for a second before he dropped to his knees.
''I'm sorry,'' he whispered ever so slowly, but I caught it. He then moved to side to reveal Nancy who was choking on her own blood, the spear lodged in her throat.
''Nancy!!!'' a gut-wrenching scream escapes me and before I knew it, I was on my feet running up to her. ''Nancy, no, please, oh goddess, no!'' I grab her face and wipe her tears away as soon as I get to her. ''I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, Nancy, I-'' I stopped talking, because there was nothing I could do, she had already lost a lot of blood and even the light in her eyes was fading.
''It- it-its okay, A-a-a-athena,'' she manages to speak, before coughing out blood.
''It's not okay,'' I sniff and shake my head, ''Nancy, its not okay, you don't deserve this, this is my fault. Selene!'' I shout and look around for her, ''Selene, do something!" I scream at the witch who is clutching the now free children tightly, ''please do something, please!''
''I can't, Athena,'' she shakes her head slowly and looks down, ''she's already lost too much blood.''
I look around at my friends, but everyone had a hopeless look in their eyes. Nothing could be done, no one can help, until.....
''I can turn her!'' my eyes suddenly widen. ''I can turn her, then she'll be fine, she'll heal, yes, yes, I can, I can turn her,'' I whisper to myself and call my wolf forward, ready to bite.
''Love, don't!'' Theo, who had Amunet in a headlock yells and stops me ''Don't turn her, she won't survive and you'll make the whole process even more painful for her.''
''But Theo-''
''No love,'' he shakes his head, ''don't do it. Besides, you cannot turn someone without asking them first. What if she survives but doesn't like what she becomes, will you be able to live with that?''
''No, I wouldn't,'' I look down at my now bloodied hands. He was right. Theo is always right, he is the calm, sensible one who thinks before taking any actions, unlike me. ''You're right, I shouldn't do it.''
''A-a-athena?'' Nancy's weak voice brings my attention back to her.
''Yes?''
''P-p-please don't tell my mom how I-I-I really died,'' she manages to speak up.
''Nancy, you're not going to-''
She take my hand in hers and squeezes it, ''Its okay, I know, they're here.''
''Who is here?''
''You don't know them,'' she tries to laugh but it turns into a blood spluttering cough. ''I'll see you there one day, h-h-hopefully n-n-not to soon,'' and with those being her last words, Nancy breathed her last and her head slumped to the side. I heave a deep sigh, send a silent prayer to the moon goddess and shut Nancy's eyes close, then get up, a new rage boiling inside me, a rage that was so blinding, the only thing needed to satiate it was Amunet's blood.
''Athena you have blood-'' Jayden points at my face and tries to wipe it off, but I stop him, my glare focused on one person and one person only.
''You didn't choose, so I did for you,'' Amunet, who despite being in headlock was smirking like a maniac, ''someone had to do it,'' she simply shrugs and Theo's grip on her tightens even more, which I just happened to realize, she seems to be enjoying.
That angered me even more and my rage was now burning like wildfire. My wolf was clawing at the back of my mind, ready to sink her teeth into Amunet's hide.
''You know what?'' she clicks her tongue and glances at Nancy's body behind me, ''some days even the devil sits back and admires my work.''
If nothing else, than that did it.
My wolf took over and in a matter of seconds I was on all fours. My wolf releases a loud painful howl which is gradually echoed by the other wolves around and then I ran.
The look of victory and malice in Amunet's cold dead eyes was immediately replaced by fear. She tried to struggle to get out of Theo's grip and even elbowed him in the nose, but my mate recovered quickly and graced her with a bite, which from the terrifying scream that she let out, most probably hurt.
Good, she deserved that and so much more.
Right before my wolf reached her, Theo let go, and she fell to the ground clutching her shoulder in pain. ''Noooooo!!!'' she screamed out, more from fear than from agony as my wolf descended on her.
I know I had said I wasn't going to kill her or any of her important vampire friends, but at the moment I was so blinded by rage and fury, not only did she brutally murder one of my close and basically only human friend, but she also tortured me for months with her diabolical plans, not to forget the vampires she sent my way to kill me.
My wolf releases a vicious snarl, and slashes her paw across Amunet's face, chest and hands, ripping apart her leather coat which I'm sure must've cost her a fortune. Her screams were music to my ears and if anything, they just egged me to continue slashing at her more.
Amunet's vampire minions were about to step forward and interfere, but they were brought to their knees in an instant. Head aneurysms, courtesy of Selene and Co.
''Keep going, Athena!'' she yells through the uproar, ''no one will touch you!''
The screams that rang the night were full of pain and agony. Vampires fell to the ground, blood pouring out of their eyes, ears and noses. The weaker ones dropped dead in a matter of seconds, while the stronger ones screamed for it stop as they withered in pain.
''What the hell?'' Charles yells in outrage, ''what was she doing inside the shield all this time?!''
Ignoring Charles' complains, I continue my assault on Amunet who had somehow managed to scamper a few feet away. Her upper body was covered in blood, her cheeks slashed and the bite from Theo getting bigger by the second as the infection spread.
''Love that's enough.'' I hear Theo's voice in my head, asking me to stop, but I pushed it back and begun approaching Amunet, kicking her in the stomach and face in the process. There was power swirling through me, strength which I knew I always had, but never fully utilized.
I was about to bite down her neck and rip her head off, when he roared a powerful roar that shook the ground, bringing my wolf and I to a stop.
''ATHENA, ENOUGH!''
Everyone present visibly shook, save for Ethan, Leo and I. Even Sean, who is an alpha himself looked slightly shaken, though he did try to hide it. Charles, Jayden, Hazel and Noah had their head bowed in respect. That is how powerful the command of an alpha is, even the beta bows down to it.
My wolf on the other hand was not pleased with the command. She turned on her paws and now faced her mate, grunting and growling at him, her teeth bared. Theo took a cautious step forward, but she snarled at him.
''Easy, love,'' he puts his hands up and his eyes soften, ''I didn't mean to undermine you, but just look at her, she's as good as dead,'' he calmly explains.
''Would be doing her a favor if you ask me,'' Leo scoffs.
''Shut it Grey!'' Theo glares at him.
''Don't do it love, please. You'll be repeating the cycle if you do,'' his voice softens as he looks into my eyes with nothing but love. ''Don't,'' he whispers and extends his hand forward.
Damn you Theo Argent for always being right!
My wolf whimpers softly and leans into his touch. He smiles at this and kisses the top of our forehead, ''good girl,'' he whispers so low, only my wolf and I heard him.
''Ughh, you two are pathetic,'' Amunet belches from where she was, blood ridden and all. Her skin looked even paler than before. She was dying, slowly and gradually, but still dying. A 600-year-old vampire, who has time again bragged about how stronger and faster she was, brought down by a couple of werewolves who she deemed as kids.
I reign my wolf in and begin shifting back to myself. Theo, immediately realizing that I'll be buck naked, whistles at Charles who throws him a robe and shields me from the eyes of everyone else. His tall, hunky form leaving no room for anyone to peep.
''A robe, how did he even-'' I peek at Charles over Theo's shoulder and raise an eyebrow at him.
''Don't ask,'' he waves his hand.
I just shake my head and face the fallen vampire. ''You're going to die a painful death, and honestly you deserve it. My intention was not too kill you at first, since I understood your need for revenge, but when you murdered Nancy, you crossed a line.''
''Someone will avenge me,'' she replies, her voice raspy.
''We highly doubt if anyone will,'' Theo puts an arm around my waist and pulls me closer to him, ''especially after they get to witness the outcome of that bite, you will beg for death to come and after days and weeks of torture, you will finally succumb to it.''
''Enjoy the hallucinations and the slow, painful death,'' I hiss at her.
We turn and begin to walk away from her, motioning the others to follow. No vampire was in sight since they all ran away after the aneurysms Selene gave them. Some loyal ones they are.
Ethan immediately pulls me into a bone crushing hug. ''I would have killed you, if you had died out there.''
''That really doesn't make sense,'' I chuckle half-heartedly.
''Shut up,'' He scolds and just hugs me more.
''Somehow we all made it,'' Noah whispers, though he was afraid to say it out loud in case another vampire pops out decided to launch attack.
''Not all of us,'' I whisper back, my eyes falling on Nancy's body. ''Theo?'' I face my mate.
''I know,'' he smiles down at me, ''we'll take the body and make sure she gets a proper burial.''
''Thank you,'' I smile back while stifling a yawn.
''Come on, I got you.'' He suddenly stops walking and wraps one hand behind my back, another behind my legs and lifts me up in his arms.
''I can walk you know,'' I fake glare at him, ''you don't have to do this, I can perfectly walk on my two-'' He plants his lips on me, cutting my little rant short.
''Just rest, love.''
He didn't have to tell me twice to do that, I mean who doesn't like sleeping, right?
''I love you, Theo.''
''I love you too, now sleep.''
