Chapter 32: A Night to Remember
Jungkook instantly woke up with a jolt as his body trembled in his own sweat. He panted frantically and reached over his own heart to feel it pound over and over again repeatedly like a marble being dropped onto the ground. His breathing grew uneven and his body felt weak in fear. Jungkook was still a healthy boy that wasn't drained at all, so he only felt this weak because of his nightmare that always seemed so vivid.
"Another fucking nightmare, are you kidding me?!" Jungkook hissed out of breath as his eyes began to water. "I've had these dreams about him before, dreams of him being so cryptic and corrupt! How many of them will I have? What is he capable of?! I haven't had a dream like this since the beginning of my stay here... could my mind make up such things just because I don't know much about him? But I know what there is to be known of him... right?" Jungkook asked himself.
For that split moment, Jungkook hugged himself and tried to even his breathing. He longed to know more to Jimin just to avoid dreams like those. He realized that now, his nightmares embodied the thoughts he tried to avoid. No matter how hard he tried, he just kept coming back to it every moment he fell asleep. Finally, the day he tried his best to avoid had approached him now. The boy looked over to the nightstand and looked at the raven mask he had to wear tonight and kill Jimin with.
"It's going to be a long day... and a night to remember..." Jungkook thought and finally managed to soothe the wrinkles in his thoughts that filled his mind. Actually taking the time to sort out his mind and focus on what he planned on doing for the night. "I don't want to harm him. This is supposed to be the night everyone is freed.. everyone but myself. I don't understand, Jimin can't be that bad..." Jungkook whispered and closed his eyes to reminisce on the painful words Hoseok told him weeks before. "...right? Ah, it's so difficult to decide... it's so difficult to realize there's more to the man I thought I knew... if only... I can..." Jungkook continued and slowly brought his gaze up towards the shelf where the old book lied.
Jungkook remembered the book Jimin would scribble into here and there, but he only looked at it from where he sat. Not daring to move another muscle. "I can't... I can't do that to him... not when he's been so kind to me and not when I'm going to harm him tonight," Jungkook thought out. "AH- I can't make up my fucking mind! What's wrong with me?! Don't I want to be set free and return to living the life I've had? Jimin... he's been so nice to me but all I know is what relies on the surface. There's many things I don't know about him and may never know if I pull through with this... could there be another way to free everyone?"
With that final question burning in Jungkook's mind, he picked up the raven mask and noticed a small note sitting underneath it that read:
"I won't return to the room for the remainder of the day. Please meet me at the ball tonight! I better see you there at eight o'clock sharp! I've left you meals in the fridge. Heat it up when you're hungry~ p.s there's a functional clock in the kitchen so you can keep track of the time."
"Oh, Jimin...there... just has to be a way to free everyone and avoid killing him. If he could care for me and have a soft side for me at the same time, there just has to be some good in him. There just has to and I know I will find it, I won't hurt him. How could I kill him if the simple thought of it scares me every second? I can't do it..." Jungkook concluded. Finally deciding that he didn't long to hurt Park Jimin. After he decided, he only continued to feel a bit of weight drop from his shoulders. No matter what, he still couldn't escape the pressure and it wouldn't leave him until the deed was done.
Throughout the early morning leading up to the start of the ball, Jungkook spent his day praying that Hoseok and Seokjin would find him at the event to push him into doing the final step to the plan. The last thing Jungkook wanted was to be reminded how horrifying the vampire truly was when in reality, there seemed more to the man than what meets the eye. Jungkook believed that since Jimin tended to show a gentle side towards him, maybe there was a way to let everyone go including himself. But was it possible? Jungkook just couldn't tell.
The folds of the black suit hugged Jungkook's body perfectly. The way the black dress shirt hugged his toned chest and the way his dress pants fit like a glove seemed to impress the boy. Surprisingly, he seemed to fit all the clothes he was given by Jimin almost as if they were tailored to fit him before. Jungkook didn't think much of it and only slipped into black classy shoes along with a coat sitting over his shoulders to seal the look. The tail to the coat fell back until it gave out a cape look. Similar to something Jimin would wear casually.
Jungkook then walked into the plain white bathroom and looked at his own reflection. He was nervous to the point where any movement left him nauseous, so he tried to walk carefully and try not to think of many things that may cause him to throw up the food Jimin left for him.
"All I have to do is avoid Hoseok and Seokjin... dance with Jimin, and return back into the room. They won't find me at all!" Jungkook thought and ran his damp hair back to finally hold up the mask against his face. As the boy placed the mask on, he clipped it on from the back and allowed his hair to hide the clippings that held the mask against his skin. The moment he set the mask over his perfect face, it only covered the upper half while his lips, cheeks and chin were exposed. The rest was concealed behind the lovely black raven mask.
The beak over the nose wasn't long enough like the plague doctor mask Jimin wore, it was a small nose piece that came to a point just inches above the nose bridge. The boy looked at himself in the mirror and couldn't help but to pick a familiar feeling each second he wore the mask.
"Why does it all look familiar... everything I wear based on what Jimin gives me, seems as if I've been here before..." Jungkook noted and held up his hands before slipping on white gloves right after. "Could this be Hyunwon's? Could this all be his?" Jungkook wondered and pulled the bottoms of the white gloves down to adjust it carefully. "It doesn't matter now... Jimin knows I'm different than him, right?"
Jungkook left the question with no other answer. There, he walked over to the small kitchenette and looked up at the clock just hanging over the stove. Now realizing that he was already running late to attend the masquerade ball. Jungkook swallowed his fears as he closed his eyes and began to walk over to the door. No longer wanting to run away from his biggest fear that meant having to confront Hoseok or Seokjin if they stood before him at the ball.
Jungkook left the room for the first time in weeks with an empty mind. He walked out into the dimmed hallway and reached over to the elevator with no rush at all. Just as he stood within the elevator, he listened to the slow and distorted tune that always greeted him when he tried to escape before. Only now, he began to realize the calming and romantic lyrics within it.
While the elevator travelled down, the elevator began to stop at other floors to pick up a few more guests. Instantly, Jungkook was standing at the center as many pale guests with different masks stood in the elevator with him. The elevator ride was silent and Jungkook only seemed to be the one that was capable of standing still without leaning against a wall like the rest of them.
"Jimin did this to them... they all fear his name and they all fear his presence..." Jungkook thought while a shiver as cold as ice ran down his warm skin and left him trembling at the thought of Jimin harming helpless people. "They need this... they need to be set free... I need to speak with him. Maybe he'll look inside himself to let them go! It doesn't have to end with me killing him tonight."
While Jungkook reassured himself in his own thoughts, the doors to the first floor opened. Instantly, the people pushed themselves to walk forward as Jungkook followed. Not really knowing where the ballroom remained. The boy followed the group of people until his eyes latched onto the big room up ahead after walking down a long hall.
Bright lights of gold colors and decors filled his eyes while the bright marble grounds were spotless; bringing out the long and vibrant red curtains to huge windows up ahead. But of course, those weren't boarded up since this was just the first floor. No one had plans to throw themselves out of a window where the ground was just a second away; no, that wouldn't be enough to take them out of their misery.
As Jungkook finally stepped in, his eyes explored the grand room as the ceilings had designs of historical paintings above. Giving off a vintage look for such an elegant ball. Masks filled the room with many people standing and speaking into soft whispers while a chamber orchestra played at a small stage up ahead. Even the musicians wore masks along with the singer that accompanied them.

Jungkook lost himself in the calming music and stayed in place as he listened to the singing of the man up ahead at the stage. This was enough to ease his anxiety when it came to being in a room filled with strangers. In a way, he always felt as if all eyes were on him. Of course, having social anxiety always left him feeling like this... feeling as if he was being stared at but only now, he felt more comfortable as he noticed how the singer gained every gaze within the room.
The room was filled with many weak people and this left Jungkook to look around at all the innocent people while the music played. He was drowning at the sight of the innocent faces hidden behind such cheerful masks and let out an exhale. No longer feeling as if the music was enough to ease him now.
"All these people... they're suffering..." Jungkook thought. "I can't stand here and watch them suffer like this... there's a lot of people here... waiting on me... waiting for the dance and the murder to take place!" Jungkook thought and right as his calming state began to crash down, he heard a familiar voice call out to him instantly. But it wasn't the voice Jungkook was happy to hear.
"Jungkook?"
"I-"
"There you are!" Hoseok called out so suddenly, pulling the boy by his arm and taking him to the side just to get his attention. "What happened to you?! Why did you neglect us?! and why are you late? I thought you were going to be here the moment it started, not thirty minutes late! Ugh, at least you made it before the first dance!" Hoseok continued as Jungkook looked at the man and began to shake in fear.
"H-Hoseok...."
"Well did you find his weakness? You know what- never mind! We can't make the substance now. Seokjin and I couldn't find Jimin anywhere. But now that you are here, Jimin is bound to show up! So, once the song ends, you should pay attention in case the first dance starts!" Hoseok told the boy and began to dig in his own pocket. "We have to be quick and use what we know... we don't know what Jimin is wearing tonight so keep an eye out for him when the dance starts."
"I can't do this... Hoseok, I can't! Please don't make me!" Jungkook begged as Hoseok only stopped for a moment and tilted his head at the sound of the boy's plea.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me! Look at everyone here... they're waiting... they're all here because they want to know that Jimin will be taken out tonight! Don't make them lose their hopes, some of them won't even make it to tomorrow if you don't do this now!" Hoseok hissed into a whisper and pulled out a small pocket knife that was sharp enough to cut glass. "Take this knife... but don't let Jimin see it at all! You have to hide it in your pocket but have it opened so it could be a quick slice to his throat."
"That won't work, please!" Jungkook continued on as Hoseok shoved the knife into the boy's pocket while the song kept playing in the background. "Not now!"
"Seokjin managed to notice something about Jimin and it's his throat... that's his weak point. I meant, it has to be right? At least, we think so. For some odd reason when he drinks blood, that's the first thing he touches in pain! Just slit his throat but you have to put force into it! It's going to work... trust me. This is going to be a night to remember."
