Chapter 30: My Weakness
"What makes me weak..." Jimin whispered and slowly slid his hands over the back of Jungkook's hand. Holding it gently but also growing envious over his own gloves since they were allowed to touch the boy's soft skin while Jimin couldn't. His hands were too cold for Jungkook to feel against his own warm touch.
Jungkook nodded carefully as the moment left his heart pounding. His thoughts went silent and all he could hear was his own breathing along with his pounding heart echoing at every beat.
"What are you trying to do... kill me?~" Jimin asked into a soft chuckle that left the hairs on the nape of Jungkook's neck stand so suddenly. "Oh Jungkook, I'm going to say something very embarrassing... but I want to be honest with you," Jimin continued on and closed his eyes against the back of the boy's neck. "I'll give you a hint..."
Jungkook remained silent as his glistening eyes shone like the moonlight that beamed through the cracks of the wooden borders concealing the window. The boy remained silent to hear the hint until... he felt Jimin move his hand over to the boy's heart. Jungkook froze up at the feeling of his own hand touching his own chest where his heart lies. With the feeling of Jimin's hand guiding over the boy's hand, Jungkook couldn't help but to sputter in tears.
"I... I... Jimin, am I...?" Jungkook asked softly through sobs that erupted from his mouth. "Am I your weakness? I can't be..."
"Why are you crying like this?" Jimin asked with a charming smile; showing his sharp fangs erupting behind Jungkook. "It's true... you're the only one I allowed to get close to me... in time, I will allow so much to be known, but I want to make sure you'll trust me as much as I'm willing to trust you. After Hyunwon left me... you came into my life and I've never felt more closer to you," Jimin continued and listened to Jungkook's silent sobs. "Could it be that you resemble my beloved so much that I already feel close to you? I don't know what it is but you're special... you know so much to me compared to anyone in this hotel. You know so much but at the same time, you don't... but I can't help but to go crazy when you escape the room. I get so anxious and worried, so frustrated and scared; I'm so scared of losing someone I want to let in after shutting everyone out. You remind me so much of him..."
Jungkook's heart pounded at Jimin's response. The way Jimin spoke about how important the boy was to him didn't seem to ease up how tense Jungkook became as he thought about the plan even further. Yet, with Jimin's arms keeping him safe, Jungkook didn't want to focus on the horrid plan he had to face soon. He wanted to lose himself in the arms of what seemed to be a villain in everyone's eyes while in his own view, was an unknown man that was set out to make bad choices based on the creature he truly was.
"You're my weakness... anything that happens to you, will harm me in so many ways," Jimin concluded and listened to Jungkook cry silently. "Has no one ever told you how special you are? Has no one ever kept you this safe and cherished you? Then let me... let me tell you only the pretty words that make you feel safe. It's all I want to give to the one who manages to make me feel so weak when I'm not."
"Jimin... I can't be your weakness..." Jungkook spoke softly before turning his body around to face Jimin once more. Looking into his caring brown eyes. "I can't be the cause of what can kill you..."
"Why not?"
"I don't know much about you to even be held in such a position..." Jungkook answered and buried his face into Jimin's motionless chest. "Why do you tell me these things, why do you say such nice things to me, why are you so much better to be around compared to those who are supposed to be my family or my friends?" Jungkook asked and closed his eyes tightly. "Why were you so kind to me before even knowing my true intentions?"
"True intentions?" Jimin wondered and looked down to the boy buried against his torso. "Jungkook, you're one of a kind... the moment I saw you, you held such resemblance to someone so important to me before, I just felt connected towards you at first sight!" Jimin continued and ran the boy's silk hair back and held him closer over his body. "You told me the things that harmed you before and I couldn't help but to pity you in many ways... I couldn't help but to protect you... you, my only weakness..."
"No wonder you tend to keep me locked up in here while others are free to roam around the hotel but never leave those front doors like me," Jungkook thought and slowly slid his hands up Jimin's body where his grasps latched onto the motionless man's back. "You just can't afford to lose me... your Hyunwon... you can't help but to see me as your Hyunwon. Seokjin was right."
As Jungkook thought to himself, Jimin fixed his focus onto the bottle of water just sitting over the nightstand. Jimin's eyes then widened the moment he realized that he himself never set the bottle there. It must have been Jungkook who grabbed it all on his own. Jimin wasn't worried about the fact that Jungkook went into the mini fridge to obtain something he needed, but it was the fact that he grabbed it and must have noticed the bags of blood hiding behind the bottles of water.
"Jungkook... please don't leave..." Jimin whispered and continued to look at the untouched bottle of water. Already suspecting that Jungkook must have found the bags of blood on his own. Slowly, he felt Jungkook tighten his grip around the man as they hugged each other against their own frames that late night.
After a few weeks, the ball was finally a day away. At the same time, Jungkook managed to get closer to Jimin, but somehow, never enough to know any life changing secrets. Jimin played a calm game; only opening up about his parents or even past relationships that all added up to such great memories. But other than that, he never wanted to bring up the truth about what he truly was to Jeon Jungkook. Everything Jungkook knew about Jimin being a vampire, was still kept from the boy. Jimin never budged and that alone left Jungkook worried. Worried about the words Seokjin mentioned before, might be true.
It was a day before the ball. Things were hectic as Jungkook recalled never seeing Jimin a day before. But for sure, he wanted to see no one else but Jimin himself. As the weeks slipped by before, Jungkook avoided meeting with Hoseok or Seokjin and hid away in his hotel room. He grew to know so much more to Jimin. Even if it couldn't have been the truth, Jungkook was still being treated well and actually began to enjoy seeing Jimin arrive in the room even on days he would leave for hours on end. Jungkook wanted to avoid the plan as much as he could, but sadly, there was no escaping it.
It was sometime in the afternoon. Jungkook never knew what time it was. Ever since he arrived at the hotel and lost all the charge in his phone, he never checked the time nor what day it was. It was only his body waking him up on days he believed was a Sunday or at times where he believed it was a beautiful morning.
Jungkook slept on the bed he was glad to share with Jimin. Even on mornings he would wake up alone, he didn't mind it all now. Jungkook knew Jimin would always come back to see him or take good care of him so he didn't worry about it too much or even tried to escape now. Jungkook was glued to the room and now, didn't even mind it.
With a quick jolt, the boy flinched awake and rubbed his eyes once he sat up over his spot on the bed.
"Ugh... another nightmare," Jungkook hissed to himself and rubbed his eyes before peeling them awake and looking around the room. "Another nightmare about...that...'' Jungkook spoke to himself as his own hands latched onto his arms. "I can't take it... dreaming of killing him when the ball is tomorrow! I've done everything... I've done everything to avoid it but it's still in my mind as if the plan was just told to me; word for word.... letter by letter... all spelled out to me!" Jungkook spoke into his mind and closed his eyes. "It's tomorrow, Hoseok and Seokjin must be wondering when I will meet with them to tell them Jimin's weakness... but how can I say that I'm Jimin's weakness?"
Jungkook gulped and carried such a gloomy face. "They won't know how I'll look tomorrow. They've never seen the mask before so I will try my best to avoid them.... right?"
The boy wanted nothing more but to escape from the many thoughts of the plan. On the other hand, he still dreamt of the night over and over again as if the pressure seeped through his thoughts and tainted every dream leading up to the day before the ball. Jungkook still remembered Hoseok's bone-chilling words and Seokjin's speech about pulling through for the sake of everyone, so even if the boy was on edge before, he felt vulnerable to the pressure.
Just as Jungkook sat over the bed and contemplated the same nightmare he had of dancing with Jimin in a big room filled with masked strangers, Jimin opened the door and looked up at the boy with just a smile erupting from his face underneath the usual plague doctor mask he wore every day.
"I'm glad to see that you're awake!" Jimin spoke happily as he removed his mask, his top hat, along with his black coat. "It's been quite a while but finally, the ball will happen tomorrow night. Seokjin worked really hard and I'm a bit surprised at how desperate he became to work until the end."
"That sounds amazing..." Jungkook replied and looked up to see Jimin smiling through his plump lips before approaching the boy sitting over the bed.
"You don't look happy. Why haven't you been happy lately?" Jimin worried and finally stood before the boy. "You know, I don't really like it when you're upset. Why don't you tell me all about it...? You love to talk to me about anything, let this conversation take us anywhere, I have the time!"
Jungkook thought quickly about what to say. His eyes slowly met Jimin's red gaze that slowly faded into a brown hue right after. Then, Jungkook quickly made a faint smile at Jimin and shook his head. "I... I don't think I want to go to the ball..."
"What do you mean?" Jimin worried and sat across from Jungkook. "You have to go... I want you to go... I'm letting you go to it..." Jimin spoke carefully as he adjusted the bottom part to his black leather glove before reaching that hand out to cup the side of Jungkook's fragile face. "You're just nervous, that's all! But I promise you, the moment you walk in, it will be a moment you will treasure forever."
"But Jimin, I just don't feel like I can do it..." Jungkook continued as Jimin only shook his head and smiled, standing up and approaching the wardrobe Jungkook would always get his clothes from. "I want to dance with you, but I just feel... the masquerade ball... I don't want to go. I can't explain it but I-
"Oh Jungkook, it will be fine. We could just share that dance and you are free to return to this room after. The moment you told me you wanted to dance with me at the ball to such a special song, I couldn't help but to look forward to it. Just imagine it..." Jimin spoke into his entrancing, raspy, and caring tone that left Jungkook blushing at the sound of his words. Unaware of what was in store for him. "Just you and I..."
Suddenly, Jimin pulled out the same raven mask with an all black suit and tie apparel. Jungkook gazed upon the suit Jimin held up along with the same beautiful mask he laid eyes on before. Just as Jimin held out these things to the boy, he made a smile and held them out to Jungkook as he remained frozen in place.
"It will be a night to remember, my little raven~"
