Chapter 29: In the Eyes of the Devil

Selfish was the word Jungkook began to despise hearing every moment. There was never a time where he went along his way not being called such a word for having a heart in a situation like this. Jeon Jungkook looked back at the words he spoke and understood how Seokjin would think that. But in his defense, he didn't think anyone was being selfish at a stressful time like this.

"Selfish... how could I be selfish?" Jungkook wondered while Hoseok loosened his arm around the boy and watched how he glared over to Seokjin. "I don't want to kill someone who treats me well! How will that make me feel at the end of the day? Am I going to be put into consideration? What about my feelings after the deed is done? Do you think I will throw that away and run back home happily?" Jungkook asked as tears threatened to fall from his face.

"Everyone in this hotel is locked up and this is the only opportunity we have at an escape! If we try to escape all at once, Jimin will manage to get to all of us! He's a monster that can't be detained! Please Jungkook, we don't want to be your enemy, we only want to be set free and sadly, this is the only way... this is the only way to punish a bad soulless monster like him..."

"You can't sit there and say he's a soulless monster! We don't know anything about him to say such things..."

"We don't need to know anything about a creature like him in order to say he isn't! Knowing well that he kills many is enough to know that this thing is a soulless monster. There is no saving a thing like him. He only wants you because he believes you're Hyunwon! How hard is that to understand?!" Hoseok spoke out and covered his face. "Please don't... don't take us as the villains here... and don't make him out to be a hero when he isn't..."

A tear finally escaped Jungkook's eyes as he listened to Hoseok's words. He knew better not to make Jimin a hero and hold him high above those who were suffering. Of course, he didn't need to know so much about Park Jimin in order to deem that he wasn't a bad person. But something in Jungkook felt sick, something in him longed to do it, but that side of him was slowly deteriorating while the other side hesitated to do such things. Even if he was a monster, Jungkook knew better not to build up such an innocent bond and strike him after since it wouldn't make him any better than Jimin.

"Jungkook..." Seokjin called out into a reassuring whisper as he slowly approached the boy sitting on the couch quietly. "I know this is a lot of pressure... but I'm sorry about everything... we didn't want to put this work over you but, you are the only one he would allow to stand close to him. There's no other way... Jimin is a vampire and what he craves is blood to survive and the people here are his source," Seokjin continued and rested his hand over the boy's shaky shoulders. "In a perfect world, he would have been an innocent person and we would have thought of a better way to escape. But the way he was created, was in the eyes of the devil."

"I understand..." Jungkook mentioned in order to make the words stop flowing from Seokjin's mouth. He understood both sides of the conversation. Hoseok and Seokjin just longed to be free and to make sure Jimin wouldn't harm another person by killing him off. It was understandable, but Jungkook still didn't feel right.

Was the boy just scared he would never find someone who kept him safe? Was he scared that he wouldn't hear someone else tell him such lovely and comforting words ever again? A part of him that grew fond of the man, was afraid of never finding such a kind soul like Jimin. Killing someone who only cared about him didn't feel right... but he had to put others into consideration when Jimin was the one that was the villain in this story. All the signs pointed that Jimin was at fault. Even if his actions didn't display it, Jungkook had to put himself in someone else's shoes since Jimin was only known to protect and cherish the boy and no one else.

"I'm sorry you have to go through this... but Hoseok and I tried too many times before to the point where Jimin is very aggressive towards us. We need to save everyone here before everyone dies and remain trapped here forever. We all have lives... and believe it or not, you're on the same boat as us, but you're just treated differently by the captain," Seokjin concluded and watched Jungkook nod his head and wipe his own tears. "It will all be over soon and you'll get to return back home."

"Yeah... whatever that is..." Jungkook answered into a whisper as he rolled his hair back and laid against the couch. "Give me a moment..."

"Of course. Would you like a drink?" Hoseok asked after calming down for a bit.

Jungkook processed the question and finally shook his head. He denied it with the thought of Jimin and how much he longed to help him with his addiction. The least he could do was make Jimin worry about him even more and grow closer. At a moment like this, Jungkook almost didn't want to grow closer to the man just so he wouldn't have to harm him in any way, but sadly, the masquerade ball was just around the corner now.

"I think I should be going back to the room... I don't want Jimin to find me in the hallways," Jungkook assured as he finally got up. The room was silent as he made his way towards the door until he opened it and left.

Outside at the hall, he could hear Hoseok speak to Seokjin carefully on how worried he was about the plan when it came to Jungkook. The boy was too afraid and this alone left Hoseok to worry completely. He wasn't the healthiest in the hotel and feared death every time he fell asleep, so it was hard for him to hear Jungkook hesitate on a final step to ending the nightmare.

Jungkook began to tear up as he made his way to the elevator. The pressure on killing Jimin was finally seeping into his weak mind to the point where he had no other choice but to pull through with the plan. Even if he didn't want to, he had to think of everyone who was suffering instead of stopping to think about how Jimin feels. What Jimin felt was a secret to the world, but Jungkook knew Jimin lived a long life to understand any imperfections he carried on his own. There was no other way to approach the situation now but to pull through with it even if it was going to harm him mentally.

Jungkook managed to return to the hotel room; keeping an eye out for Jimin as he entered the room and didn't see the man anywhere.

"He hasn't returned yet..." Jungkook thought and wiped away his tears before looking over to the kitchen. His mouth craved the cold and bitter taste of alcohol ever since Hoseok offered it, but he denied and knew he didn't want to alarm Jimin about it like before. Jimin genuinely cared about the boy and Jungkook knew it, so he didn't want him to worry if he turned to drinking once again.

Jungkook walked over to the kitchen, hoping to fool his own mind by drinking water instead of taking in alcohol. So, the boy placed his hand over the handle of the mini fridge and pulled it open. Instantly, his eyes scanned along the fridge which carried vegetables, beef set into its packaging, milk and bottles of water to the back. The boy was relieved to see nothing unfamiliar as he reached for the bottle of water and pulled it out of its stack. All was fine for the moment until Jungkook's eyes fell to the back of the bottles and found three small crimson red bags filled with blood.

The boy's blood went cold instantly and his eyes froze at the sight. He let out a sharp exhale and grew pale as the blood bags just sat there. Even if it was expected, he never thought he would come across something like this. Jungkook grew curious about whose blood this was, but in no way did he long to ask. Jungkook shouted after fighting back from his frozen silence and slammed the door to the fridge shut.

"I didn't see it, I didn't see it!" Jungkook whispered to himself and grabbed the cold bottle of water. Three bags of blood looked recent since there was no way Jimin was going to keep it in there for such a long time. Jungkook hugged the bottle of water and recalled the sight of the crimson hue every time he closed his eyes and shivered at the thought. He knew what Jimin was and what he needed to survive. It was understandable, but even so, things like these scarred the boy deep in his mind. The fact that Jimin harmed others and allowed them to get drained was something Jungkook didn't want to face at all. The kind image of Jimin was still surrounding his naive mind.

The boy made it to the bed where he set the bottle of water on the nightstand and hugged himself over the black silk covers. He closed his eyes tightly as his mind played back the many words Seokjin said about Park Jimin. He was truly a soulless monster in everyone else's eyes, but was he to Jungkook? No, he was the exact opposite and that's what made it difficult to believe. As the boy hugged himself and cried silently into his own arms by thinking of killing Jimin, Jungkook exhaled softly when suddenly, he heard the door open from behind him.

In stepped the cold and silent man. He quickly removed his mask; eagerly watching Jungkook laying over the bed as he set the mask over the table along with his top hat and removed his black coat quickly. Only revealing his black dress shirt afterwards. The firm creases to his back folded the fabric of the shirt as he stretched and approached Jungkook over the bed.

"Jungkook, are you alright?" Jimin asked curiously and crawled onto his own side of the bed where he could reach the boy instantly. "Are you hungry?"

"No... I'm just... a little tired..." Jungkook whispered and quickly tried to dry his eyes and hide the many words written on his forehead. However, it was no use. Jimin managed to read those words like letters to an open book.

"I understand. I get tired as well... are you okay?"

"I... I'm fine... I'm just... thinking, that's all..." Jungkook continued and noted how goosebumps never failed to form over his skin the more Jimin watched over him.

"Do you want to talk to me and share those thoughts? I'll always be here to listen, Jungkook. I'll always be here for you..." Jimin continued. Just then, Jungkook closed his eyes and suddenly began to break down from the many thoughts in his head. Constantly exhausting him over and over again. "Jungkook..." Jimin whispered as his own brown eyes glistened at the sight of the human he held dear to him, breaking down from the inside. "Can I.. comfort you?"

Jungkook instantly shook his head but Jimin wrapped his arms around the boy and moved in closely either way. Spooning Jungkook into his arms from the back and hearing his sobs in which grew silent as he tried to muffle them. Even if the boy lied and denied the request, Jimin knew Jungkook needed it deep down.

"I'm sorry... I know you shook your head but I can tell when you're lying to me. I can't help it, not when you're in pain like this..." Jimin whispered softly.

There the man laid; motionless, but also soothing Jungkook mentally and protecting him. Jungkook longed for the feeling of safety, he latched his hands onto Jimin's arms and closed his eyes. Calming himself down and trying to organize his thoughts into sentences. But after a while, he finally managed to pull his lips apart to speak.

"Jimin..." Jungkook spoke into a raspy whisper and fretted the words he had to say next.

"What is it..." Jimin asked into a whisper along the boy's ear. Pressing his forehead against the nape of Jungkook's neck and causing a shiver to race down the knobs of Jungkook's spine. Just begging him not to say what he tempted to ask.

"Jimin... what... what makes you weak?"
