Chapter 19: Big Plans
A smile as bright and charming as Jungkook's, left Jimin staring with his glowing red eyes; unknowingly latching onto the boy at every beat of Jungkok's heart. He was speechless, at complete awe at the sight, and couldn't look away for more than a second. Jungkook's smile was only the best Jimin has ever seen in his strangely lived life, so he sat there, and finally mirrored the smile he watched from the boy, yet, only smiling with his plump, red, lips.
"You should eat some more, we could share it!" Jungkook mentioned and looked at the bowl of stew. "This time, go slow and don't rush it," Jungkook added and let out a laugh. Just then, he noticed Jimin's smile once more and couldn't help but to look away. Feeling as if this interaction was enough to make him nervous.
"No, please, it's all yours. I have a very... peculiar taste.. when it comes to what I eat," Jimin mentioned and slid the tray closer to Jungkook. "Eat up, the last thing that I want is to let you starve."
"A peculiar... taste?" Jungkook asked and smiled at the man again. "Are you the type of person who would enjoy steak with wine? You must be very fancy."
"Hm... well, it's something like that..." Jimin added onto the conversation and watched Jungkook eat.
It was as if his world struck down with a quick flash of lightning from his crimson stare; he thought Jungkook's smile was very familiar and warming. Something he was very unaware of before, began to rise up in his head. The way this boy smiled, the way he spoke and the way he would laugh, left Jimin curious at once.
"You... have such a beautiful smile..." Jimin mentioned and watched Jungkook freeze up and slowly set the spoon down once more.
"O-Oh... thank you, I don't remember the last time someone told me anything like that! I appreciate it," Jungkook replied and continued to eat.
"This was my first time seeing you smile or laugh like that, you should smile often," Jimin continued and enjoyed seeing Jungkook freeze up at every word.
"I would, but being held captive and unaware of many things... isn't really a thing to smile about," Jungkook answered and looked at Jimin once more. "Would... you smile, if you were held captive and kept in one room?" Jungkook asked and watched Jimin shake his head faintly. "So, it's weird that I'm actually smiling or even laughing. For a moment, I don't think I've been happy even before I came here. So hearing my own laughter was a very rare thing. Of course, I would hear my own voice when I would giggle as I drank until I was completely drunk, but nothing that actually made me laugh like this. Thank you... for that..."
"You're welcome..." Jimin replied and watched the boy nervously look away as continue to eat. "Your smile, reminds me so much of him..." Jimin brought up and smiled again. "It's charming..."
"Him... is that all he likes to say? He seems to compare me a lot to this Hyunwon guy, huh?" Jungkook wondered in his mind. "I don't know... if that's a compliment or not. You must really like to compare me to Hyunwon," Jungkook finally spoke out and watched Jimin tilt his head right after. "I hope you don't associate me with him as the same person, it's not a good thing for you to do, especially if you're waiting for him to come to you soon."
"I'm just very observant... that's all," Jimin replied and finally looked away to stare at the boarded up windows. "Jungkook, you look so much like him... I couldn't help it. But I know you two are different..." Jimin assured and cleared his throat right afterwards. "There are many things that make the two of you different..."
"What is it? If the rest is personal, you could name one thing if you would like," Jungkook assured. Noticing how the silent man stared off to the boarded window. "I understand if things are too personal for you to tell. I have many things I hold back from telling you since, it's too personal for me to open up.. especially too soon. But yet again, I don't think I'll ever recall a memory we supposedly shared and I think I'll be here forever, so, if this is the last place I see before I die, I would rather tell you everything now since I will live with you until then. Yet, time is a good thing and I believe there's a time and place for everything," the boy assured and slowly reached over Jimin's shoulder and softly gave him a pat. "We could open up whenever we feel like we're ready. How does that sound?"
"If... you don't remember until then, I have no problem with that," Jimin agreed and looked at the boy once more. The way that they finally agreed on something, dragged them further into understanding each other. So far, they knew that they both disliked confrontation and opening up about things. Yet, they were different in many ways; still, living in different worlds. Jungkook had a tendency to run from his problems and get scared too easily, and as for Jimin... it was very unsure to tell since Jungkook was only starting to learn his flaws before his perfections.
After the meal, Jungkook was sitting over the bed and noticed how pale he was beginning to get. He gazed upon his arms and let out a sigh before focusing onto the concealed window up ahead. "Hey, can I at least stand by the window? I haven't seen the outside in quite a while..." Jungkook questioned Jimin, who was only sitting at an opposite chair across the room; sitting with his leg crossed over the other and scribbling into an old book silently. "Hey..."
"I have a name..." Jimin replied and continued to write while Jungkook closed his eyes tightly and shook his head.
"I... I don't want to say it... it's weird."
"How could you find it weird? 'Master', how weird can a word like that get? Enlighten me, Jungkook."
"You have no idea..." Jungkook replied and nervously scratched his head. "Could I just call you by your name? I don't understand why you choose to go by another when your name is very nice. I love to hear it, not the other word... it makes me uncomfortable to call someone that," Jungkook mentioned and watched Jimin continue to write away in his book.
"If I tell you to call me 'Master,' you would only avoid calling me altogether. If you long to call me by my name, go ahead," Jimin replied and heard the boy sigh in relief. "Also, the window will remain boarded up at all times. I don't want you to lose your mind one day and throw yourself off."
"Lose my mind?"
"Oh, you would be surprised at how many people tend to lose their minds being held captive.... it's just a fact I've found out the hard way," Jimin stated and noted how quiet the room became.
"I keep forgetting that he holds many people captive in his hotel. Who knows how many innocent people have thrown themselves off many windows..." Jungkook wondered and shuddered at the thought of people throwing themselves out of the window to escape this hell. "How long has he kept people in here? It's so difficult to understand that a man so caring and charming, would do such a thing. I shouldn't judge a book by its cover though, I don't know what's the true words hidden behind those many pages."
Jungkook was silent after Jimin exchanged words like that. Instantly, the room was filled with the sound of the man scribbling down in an old leather book. Leaving the boy to wonder why Jimin would write his thoughts into a journal; allowing his writings to be read out once pulled open.
"Jungkook..." Jimin called out and finally stopped writing into his journal to look up at the boy right after.
"Yes?"
"The Raven Hotel hosts an annual ball every year and this one for this year is quickly approaching us. I didn't think we were going to hold the annual ball so soon, but Seokjin is very invested in it. So, he prepared many things so soon. I guess it would be nice to hold a ball for the guests, wouldn't you say so as well?" Jimin asked and watched Jungkook tilt his head.
"First he holds many people captive and then throws a grand party for them? I don't think I've ever heard of a kidnapper like him before! It's as if he never tortures any of them and just wants them in his life for the sake of being around others... how pitiful..." Jungkook thought and noticed Jimin making a short smile.
"A question... needs answering~"
"Oh... y-yeah I think it would be great!" Jungkook mentioned and watched Jimin nod his head before continuing to write in his book. "Will... I be able to leave this room to attend it?"
"Let's see how well you behave and maybe then, I'll let you attend it. I'm still disappointed about earlier today. You must learn to respect my wishes before you're able to leave this room so freely. What would happen if you were to escape the hotel during the ball? I wouldn't be very pleased."
"I understand," Jungkook replied and pondered his next thought. "If I am able to go to this ball, what would I wear?"
"You could wear something of mine in the wardrobe. If you haven't noticed, I wear only classy clothes every day. So, you will find a lot. Also, the ball has always been a masquerade ball. I will be more than happy to give you a mask I used to wear before," Jimin said.
"Sounds great..." Jungkook then continued to look at the boarded window and began to wonder to himself, how will he be able to escape to Hoseok's room now? Jungkook still kept the man in his mind and longed to see him just for the sake of silencing his curious thoughts.
Jungkook knew that he had to be patient and wait for Jimin to open up to him when he was able to, but the boy didn't trust Jimin enough to actually wait for his truth. At the end of the day, Jungkook only knew one side of Jimin and he was also held captive against his own will. Unable to leave the room he stood in, was enough to leave Jungkook hungry for answers.
"If I leave this room, he will find me again... I need to make sure he's busy on a day I choose to make a quick run to the tenth floor. If he finds me, he will punish me again and he wouldn't allow me to attend the ball; my next attempt at an escape and hopefully by then, I can escape with a few people..." Jungkook pondered and closed his eyes after staring at the boarded window for a while. "No matter what, I hope I don't lose my mind here... please... don't let me lose my mind..." Jungkook continued on. Only hearing his sharp exhales assisted with Jimin scribbling away in his book.
"Jungkook, are you alright? Your breathing is uneven." Jimin pointed out and closed his book before setting it over a desk and approaching the boy.
"Yes, I'm alright," Jungkook assured Jimin and kept thinking of ways to escape again. "Jimin, will you stay here with me everyday until you trust that I won't escape?" asked the curious boy who watched Jimin approach him closely. "If you do... will you eat with me?"
"Oh... no, I won't really have any of my meals in here. I also won't stay here that long at times due to the many...many... things I have going on outside of this room. Don't expect us to sit together and share a meal, I have a very... different eating schedule than anyone else," Jimin answered and made another smile. "You will have your alone time to do anything you would like. But always remember..."
Jimin then sat next to Jungkook and leaned in to whisper against the boy's ear carefully in a way to make him uneasy at the next words he planned to say.
"Don't you ever, let me find you outside of this room again, Jeon Jungkook."
