Chapter 8- Intruder alert!

Raven's pov

Well, the first day of the academy was just as boring as I thought it was going to be. We literally learned about going undercover, and hiding from enemies. Which is exactly what I'm doing at this very second. Sure, my name is Raven, but I'm pretending I'm an orphan with no surname that's traveled the world. In reality I'm a runaway bunking out here until the storm moves on. It's not like I've been caught yet.

So basically, I've got the subject down.

I said goodbye to Naruto, promising I would eat whatever ramen is with him tomorrow. He seemed horrified to learn that I'd never had it. Apparently it's some sort of noodle soup stuff with loads of toppings that was a gift from the gods above. He seemed pretty passionate about it, so it can't be too bad. I'll eat almost anything at this point though, so I guess it wouldn't matter.

I walked towards Granny Momo's house, not sure what else I was to do. I could see her sitting on her front porch knitting. It looked like the beginnings of a scarf, or maybe a sweater. I don't know anything about knitting so it's whatever. It's probably going to end up being a hat and I'll have been wrong. "Hey, Granny Momo." I greeted as I approached. She smiled, looking up as though she'd known I was coming.

"Hello dear, how was your first day at the academy? Did you make any friends?" She questioned as I climbed the steps onto the porch, sitting on the deck. I leaned up against the house with a sigh. I guess Naruto counts as a friend now. We're both on the same boat in the demon department, although I'm sure his is far more hostile than mine are. Having two makes up for it though. They argue so much they might as well be kicking me in the brain.

"I guess it was alright. Really boring in my opinion, but I did make a new friend." I shrugged. She seemed to brighten at this, her hands continuing on with the... whatever that's going to be. Kuro and Igneous will probably make bets over it later. "Really? And who might that be?" Granny asked.

"His name is Naruto Uzumaki." I said. She seemed to brighten more, sitting back in her seat. The gleam in her eyes told me she was keeping something from me. I'd seen that look before, far too many times to be okay. I perked up. "What do you know?" My tone was joking, but I was dead serious. I know I'm keeping secrets of my own, but I don't like things being kept from me. I know that's weird, but it's just the way I am.

"That boy is special. I feel quite bad for him. I suppose you've already figured out that I know something, so I'll have to tell you, so long as you swear not to tell anyone else." She paused, looking at me. I nodded readily. She let out an almost morose sigh. "He holds the Nine Tailed fox. His father, the forth Hokage, sealed it in him. The dolts that live here are far too thick to figure out the boy's heritage. He's treated like garbage by most. I'm glad he's found friendship with you."

Well... I knew about the demon thing, but not the Forth Hokage. I can't believe people don't know. I don't think Naruto does either. He told me he'd never met his parents when we talked about how the both of us were orphans. I thought about it. Granny trusted me with this piece of information, and I think it may be more serious and important that she realizes. "Granny, can I tell you something if you promise not to tell?" I feel like I can trust her. Besides, I'll eventually spill to someone if I don't tell soon. It's been eating at me. I'm living a lie here.

"My lips are sealed." She promised simply, her knitting needles never stopping. I took in a deep breath.

"I have two demons sealed inside of me." I blurted out. "U-Uh, there's the demon dragon Ignous and the demon crow, Kuro. They're both... er, tamed, and we're really good friends! They won't hurt anyone, I swear. They've been with me through it all and have never tried to escape." I defended immediately as her knitting froze, her head snapping in my direction. Here eyes were wide with surprise.

"...Well, that's a surprise I suppose. I did say I wouldn't tell. I always love a good secret anyway... but do they not lust for blood? They're demons, are they not?" She seemed hesitant about accepting that they were good, which is understandable. I'm just glad she didn't scream or something. I'd have to knock her out if that happened. I'll be taken into custody or thrown out if anyone with high authority finds out my secret. That is, if the villagers don't kill me first.

"No, but Kuro does love a good fight. He's more into experimenting and learning new things as well as creating new things. Inventions, I guess. And he knows random things he really shouldn't. Igneous and I still can't figure out how he does that..." I trailed off. She chuckled, which is a good sign. "Igneous is the weird one. He's really... positive for a demon, and he's not too into fighting unless it's necessary, and only then will he really get into it. He has an odd obsession with scented soaps, too. He rants for hours on end about how wonderful they are."

"Strange beasts indeed." She hummed as I stood. "They sound somewhat pleasant, I suppose. I will keep your secret. I trust that you know what they will do and what they will not do, and if you say they mean this village no harm, I will stand by you in that." She said, and I smiled.

"Thank you... it was eating at me. They're such a big part of my life, and they're my closest friends and allies. I wanted to be able to tell someone about them." I sighed. I felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. "I've got to go. Kakashi is probably wondering where I am by now." I said, rolling my shoulders. She smiled a kind smile.

"Do come back soon." She urged. I nodded, leaning down to give her a quick, awkward hug when she opened her arms. She seemed happy about it, and I tried not to cringe. Granny Momo is great but physical contact man... it's definitely not my forte.

I waved as I walked down the street, turning around once her house was out of sight. The air here was cooler than it was back home, and it ruffled my hair pleasantly as it rushed by, as though racing itself. I looked around. I was on dirt road sparsely dotted with shops and little cafes. There weren't many people around.

My eyes found a small shop that looked pretty cute, and I shrugged. I have money on me, and it wouldn't hurt to look around. I need to start acting like I live here if I want to stay, right? I don't have too many usable belongings anyway. Just things I picked up throughout my life, all stuffed into my portable room.

I entered the store, beginning to scan the aisles. There wasn't much pink in the store much to my satisfaction. As I looked about, I realized just what this place was. It was a store where you bought travel supplies. Everything was in smaller sizes, and I knew what that meant. My heart plummeted.

"Stop!" Igneous bellowed, sure enough. I froze, and I heard Kuro groan as I slowly turned to my right. My heart plummeted right into my stomach. It was a shelf full of small, travel sized soap bottles. All of them were lined up neatly, and worst of all, all of them were in different colors. That meant they were more than likely scented. I was going to scream.

"Yes they finally made travel size bottles of soap! Bars of soap are convenient, but they can melt. But in a small bottle, you can just slip it in your pocket for on the go! You have to look at them!" He demanded after he finished his little sales pitch. I groaned loudly, throwing my head back as I shuffled over, my hand weakly picking one of the bottles off. The dragon inside me let out the loudest squeal. "They're all scented! Look, look at the labels!" He whisper shrieked. I risked a peek. We were never leaving this place.

"Wait, grab the pine scented body wash and the cinnamon scented shampoo." He ordered. I did as he said, sulking. I've made mistakes. "Oh. My. SATAN!" His shriek made me wince. "It's shampoo and conditioner... all in one." He whispered excitedly. I grabbed a few bottles before he could demand I grab anything else, rushing to the checkout to pay. Who knows when the next opening would have been. I swear, that creature doesn't breathe when he talks.

I bought the items with desperate speed, all but breaking down the door as I sped out of there. I can never take this road home again. He'll want to go in every single time. Even now I'm having trouble blocking out his soap rants and squeals. I can't go through this everyday. This is too much.

I threw open the door to Kakashi's apartment, ready to throw the soap in the soap chest and lock it and then fucking burn it. But something stopped me. It was a familiar swish that I couldn't quite place, and I froze in my tracks. Igneous fell silent too, confirming that something wasn't right. I swear... I swear to God I just heard a window open somewhere.

"Hello? Is anyone here?" My grip on the soap bag tightened, and I held it up slightly as though it were a weapon or shield. I heard a faint curse, and a bang. I jumped as a shadowy figure darted from the kitchen, rushing past me. I shrieked, flipping around.

"Shit!" I cursed, rushing down the hall after him, my body turning to metal as I did so, just in case. My feet banged heavily on the floor from the new weight, but I didn't care. The floor could cave in for all it mattered. I could definitely die without my metal armor in play. Damn that. I'm a reckless idiot, not suicidal.

I threw open the door to my bedroom, and the breeze hit me instantly. My red eyes narrowed at the open window, my chest heaving as I dropped the bag of soap on the ground, sniffing the air to see if he was still here. His scent was too faint, and I knew the smell too. He was from my home. The sage scent o him told me he was one of the guards that used to guard me. I should have known they'd find me.

I heard the front door creak open and froze again, pushing myself up against the wall. My eyes searched for a weapon, and then I realized that I had a weapons pouch around my leg. I'm still an idiot. I was ready to grab the bag of soap and wield it like it was a spiked ball on a chain.

"Raven, are you home?!" It was Kakashi's voice, but I still sniffed the air to make sure it was him. It definitely smelled like him. I didn't trust it anyway, moving closer to the doorway and peeking down the hall. He walked into my line of sight and I ducked away, taking in a sharp breath of air. I think he knows I'm here, but my chakra may be too big for him to pinpoint my location.

"What's the first thing I ate when I got here?!" I called, holding the kunai close to my face and facing outwards, ready to strike. I heard Kakashi shuffle slightly with confusion. "What?!" He called back, and I heard footsteps. I pushed myself up more against the wall as he walked right past my room. He thinks I'm in the bathroom then.

"Answer." I growled, lowering myself as he whirled around.

"An iron crowbar? Why?" He stepped into my room, his hands flying up when he saw the kunai I held. "Whoa- are you alright? Put that down!"

"What question did I ask you this morning. The weird one." I urged.

"If I had any scented soaps?" He answered hesitantly, seeming to slump with relief when I lowered my weapon, sighing heavily. "What was that all about?"

"Somebody was in the house. They entered through the kitchen and left through my window. I heard them, and they were definitely too fast to be an ordinary house robber." I informed, wincing when his eye widened with horror. He took a look at my open window before disappearing back down the hall to investigate the kitchen. Kakashi is a pretty private guy from what I can tell. I feel bad that I'm the one who caused his house to be invaded. His home.

"I'll inform the Hokage after I'm done looking around." Kakashi muttered once he came back into my room, his lone eye stormy with anger. I grimaced and nodded, the two demons inside of me tense and upset.

We knew exactly who did this.
