Chapter 5

The following afternoon Larissa sat at her desk, filling out a form whilst chatting to a long time friend, in need of her help. As it turns out another student will be joining Nevermore and despite Larissa's dislike for accepting students mid term this one was an acceptation. Her dear friend filled Larissa in on the situation and as the helpful person that she is agreed to take her daughter in. Just as the woman had finished her call, the phone rung once more. It was the sheriff.

"Good afternoon Sheriff, how might I help?"
"It's gone." His voice sounded distressed as he continued waffling on not making much sense.
"Now I can't understand a word you say. Gather your thoughts and repeat that sentence." She heared the irritated grumble coming from the man but she didn't care, after all she wasn't going to be of much use if she couldn't understand a word he said.
"I said, it's gone. The ring. As soon as I got home I put it in my safe, but when I went to get it later this morning to take it down to the station it's gone."
"And you've waited until now to tell me?" The woman clenched her jaw, sometimes this man pushed all the wrong buttons. She didn't give him chance to finish whatever he began to say.
"I'm on my way." She said then hung up.

The woman left the school and headed towards her car, that's where she saw the Raven perched on the roof. She stopped in her tracks, this was certainly not a coincidence. This bird was following her. Why she didn't know...yet.
She slowly approached the car, fully aware of the pair of dark eyes watching her. A chilling screech startled the woman as another Raven appeared from nowhere and joined the other atop of her car. This Raven however was much larger, it's feathers looked much smoother and well kept. It's talons large and as black as coal, though the thing that caught the woman's eye, and made her gasp with surprise, was the golden ring inside the bird's claw.

It was the ring from the night before, the very ring she was on her way to discuss with the sheriff.
"There's a pretty ring you have." She really had no idea where she was going with this, but she really needed that ring. She inched even closer to the car as the two birds watched her, her efforts were interrupted however by the entrance doors opening and Enid running out startling the birds. At that moment Larissa Weems wanted to scream, but instead she took a deep breath.
"Principal Weems." The girl called, and her principal slowly turned around with a smile.
"Yes Miss Sinclaire?"
"Miss Thornhill told me to come get you." The bubbly girl smiled. The woman glanced at her car where she was so close to getting the ring back before following the girl back inside.

Later that same day Larissa Weems sat in Weathervane starring at her hot chocolate, losing herself in her own thoughts. Meanwhile a figure lurking the opposite side of the road watched the woman from the distance, like they had for days. Toying with the woman at any given chance, like a cat and it's prey.
Dark eyes watched as the light haired woman took a sip from the blue coffee mug, her red lips closing around the china mug before drinking the liquid inside, the eyes fell to her slim pale neck as it swallowed the remaining fluid, before coming to a stop as the mug is placed back on the table. The eyes watch as the woman's slender hand drums frustratedly against the table, each red painted nail collided with the cheap wooden table, where thousands had sat and ate before her. Though the sound couldn't be heard outside on the not so busy streets of Jericho the owner of those eyes could hear every thud. They even heard the deep sigh that left the woman's red lips. If only the woman would look out of the window, the culprit of the lurking eyes was becoming impatient at their own game.

Screams erupted in the quiet coffee shop as a large ebony coloured bird flew at the window, clawing at the glass until it caught the attention of the startled blonde. The minute it locked eyes with her the bird ceased its attack and flew  across the road. The woman quickly reached for her hand bag before leaving the building, she glanced around until she saw the bird landing on the lamppost. She picked up her speed and made her way across the road, feet away from reaching the feathered animal and it took off once more. The woman did her best to follow it, but lost it when she bumped into the mayor. Mentally cursing herself, the woman smiled friendlily to the mayor, engaging in his small talk before finally he wished her a good day and allowed her to get on with her business. Not that it mattered now, the bird had yet again disappeared.

It was getting late and since the woman had nothing else to do in town she decided it was time to go home. The drive was quiet, she didn't turn on the radio as she followed the bendy roads back to Nevermore. Truthfully the woman couldn't wait to get back to have a nice long hot bath, and enjoy whatever amount of relaxation she could fit in. Which is not very much. Her own time wasn't something that came around often, there was always something she needed to do, places she needed to be or fights she needed to break up. She'd be lucky to bet back and not be called upon as soon as she stepped through the door. Despite having head of houses she found a lot of the students would seek her out instead, why she wasn't entirely sure but she didn't mind as much, after all they were her children. A smile graced her lips at the thought of them, despite how exhausting they were on times, and they really were sent to try her she adored them all, even down to their unusual little quirks. She was a very involved headmistress, some people say she's too involved, though she's never heard her students complain.

The blonde made her way through the forestry along the road that leads to Nevermore though halfway along the drive she finds herself slamming her foot on the break as a flock of ravens land on the road in front of her.
