Chapter 2
The following morning found Larissa Weems in town having a well overdue coffee in the quiet little coffee shop by the name of Weathervane. One of her students required a visit to Dr. Valerie Kingbott the towns local therapist and a trusted friend of Larissa Weems, offering her service to the outcasted children who needed it. One of the very few people who actually wanted to help.
At the sound of the little bell of the cafe door the blonde was snapped out of her thoughts.
"Principal Weems." The voice belonged to the mayor of Jericho Town.
"Noble Walker, what a pleasant surprise." The woman smiles.
Noble Walker is a tall man though he is shorter than Larissa Weems, his hair is black short and well kept, he wore a long beige coat that protected his casual two piece suit. He waved to the young waiter who nodded in response and began making his usual order.
He took a seat opposite the woman despite the many empty tables around them. And thanked the boy when he delivered his drink. Larissa remain silent well aware the Mayor had something he wished to discuss.
"The sheriff said you saw something from your window last night." The man stated glancing around the room for any prying eyes.
"I did, and I presume he also told you that he and his team found nothing to indicate anything peculiar took place on the property."
"Well, nothing even more peculiar than what already takes place anyway." He took a sip of his drink, and the woman bit the side of her cheek at the little unnecessary dig.
"There was something there last night, I know it. I saw it myself."
"I don't doubt you for a minute, if anyone notices anything strange in this town it's you. Which is why I'm here."
Larissa arches her brow, the man leans in closer.
"We've had a few reports this morning about some break ins around here. Though when the sheriff went to inspect the scene of the crimes not a single piece of evidence was left behind, and nothing was broken or smashed. A few things like food from the bakery, some books from the library and someone reported that their phone rang last night but when they went to answer it, it had been blown up despite not hearing the explosion."
"I can assure you now, if you're trying to pin that on my children I'll-"
"No no no, you have it all wrong. I don't think it's one of them, who ever it is are far to carful...no offence, but I don't think any of those kids are capable of this, neither are any of the town kids. But whoever it is, isn't your average burglar."
The woman furrowed her brows, some books and food isn't usually the sort of thing a burglar would steal.
"What sort of books?" She asks and the man shrugs.
"You'll have to ask Libby, she's the one who reported it."
"And that's all that's gone missing?"
"As far as I know, I don't know whether there's been more reports. Better see the sheriff."
Larissa remained silent as the little list kept repeating in her mind, this is one odd thief. She glanced at her watch, her student still had another half an hour before her appointment was over.
"I suppose it wouldn't hurt, I'll go speak to him now. Though I don't know what I can offer that'll be of any use." The woman drank the remains of her drink before rising from her seat.
"Libby saw a light in the library, she took her little pocket gun and went to investigate, but when she got closer the light vanished. She couldn't find a soul in her library." He added quietly.
Larissa bid the man a good day before leaving and heading towards the Sheriffs office.

A tall figure lurking in the darkness slowly stepped out from its hiding place, avoiding the light from the street lamp. The figure came to a stop in front of the antique shop, it's dark eyes focused on the crystal ball on display in the window.
The following morning Larissa Weems was informed of another unexplained robbery at the antique store, the only thing that had been taken was a crystal ball. She's agreed to meet up with Sheriff Donovan and Mayor Noble at the coffee shop for a discussion.
"What kind of robber is this, it only takes certain things, none of which are of much value to begin with."
"Not to you, but who ever this person is clearly has a use for them. And I don't think we're dealing with an ordinary person here."
Both Sheriff and Mayor look at one another before turning to the woman.
"Are you suggesting this person...is an outcast?" The sheriff asks, dreading the answer.
"It would look that way yes. Though I can assure you whoever this is, it's none of my children. I have all this supplied at the school, they'd have no reason to steal any of it. And as for the books, they were historical books on this town."
"What would they want with those?" Asked the mayor.
"I have no idea." The blonde said, turning to look out of the window. A dark figure however caught her attention, the men followed her intense gaze though by the time they looked in the same direction the figure had vanished.
"Excuse me gentlemen." The woman stood up and quickly left the shop, forgetting her untouched hot chocolate. She headed towards where the figure was lurking the opposite side of the street, the only exit being the little alleyway between the two buildings. The blonde glanced around before heading down the alleyway, a sound coming from behind a large wheeled bin. Carefully she approached it, then jumped at the sudden voice that called out her name.
"Sorry Miss Weems, didn't mean to scare ya." It was Mr John kiddler, the owner of the sweet shop.
"It's quite alright Mr.Kiddler, no harm done." She smiles warmly, regaining her composure.
"So what brings ye back 'ere?"
"I thought I saw something tis all. I don't suppose you've seen anyone back here have you?"
"Nope, just you. And that bird there." He points towards the feathered animal sat upon the large wheeled bin. It's feathers coat a jet black, and it's dark eyes appear almost human like as they stare into Larissa's soul.
"Right well thank you, and sorry to bother you."
"Ain't no trouble Miss Weems, you ain't no bother." The woman smiles and nods her appreciation, glancing one last time at the featherd creature before taking her leave.
That was odd, Larissa thought to herself.
Her mind pondering about that bird.
