A few days later, They set off and when they were almost to Castle Arulen, Elsa was having misgivings.
"Are you alright?" Gilan asked the pale girl beside him.
"Yes, just a little dizzy..." she told him.
He slipped an arm around her waist to help her walk.
"You're as cold as ice!" he exclaimed.
She coughed uncomfortably and the wind turned a little frigid.
"This weather is acting strange lately, don't you think?" Gilan asked.
"Yeah."
When they got to the castle, the ran into Horace.
"Well who is this Gilan?" the knight smirked.
"This is Elsa, I found her injured and unconscious a few days ago, and she's not entirely recovered. She'll need a room." Gilan explained.
Horace set off immediately to figure out what room was open for this stranger to have.
When Gilan got her settled, he went to his quarters and made sure he didn't miss anything important.
He started writing letters to a few rangers that he needed to go on missions, and he was signing the last when he heard the faint, nervous knock on his door.
"Come in," he said shortly.
As the door opened, he saw who it was.
"Elsa! Was there something you needed?"
"I was just.... a little...."
She seemed to be searching for the right word.
"Lonely?" Gilan offered.
"A little."
"Ok."
For a few hours, he explained how things in Arulen worked.
That evening, she was sitting in her room singing softly to herself.
(yes, you knew it was coming.)
The snow glows white on the mountain night
Not a footprint to be seen
A kingdom of isolation,
And it looks like I’m the queen.
The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn’t keep it in, heaven knows I tried
Don’t let them in, don’t let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know
Well, now they know
Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door
I don’t care
What they’re going to say
Let the storm rage on,
The cold never bothered me anyway
It’s funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can’t get to me at all
It’s time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me
I’m free
Let it go, let it go
I am one with the wind and sky
Let it go, let it go
You’ll never see me cry
Here I stand
And here I'll stay
Let the storm rage on
My power flurries through the air into the ground
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I’m never going back,
The past is in the past
Let it go, let it go
And I'll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
That perfect girl is gone
Here I stand
In the light of day
Let the storm rage on,
The cold never bothered me anyway
"That's a neat song." Gilan commented from the doorway.
"Oh, um.... thanks."
He set a hand on her shoulder.
"When you are ready to tell me how you were injured, I'll be ready to listen." he told her, walking over and setting a hand on her shoulder. "Damn, your skin is still ice cold! Is it always like that?"
"Pretty much."
"Well, good night."
"Good night Gilan."
