The garden of Eden is full of snakes.
The holy churchgoers turn away the poor,
The abused, the women who have a choice,
And don't have a choice,
All the while they cheat, lie, and steal.
The river of the blood and tears of the damned
Grows each day.
The Broken and Bruised stand no chance
Against the Patriarchy,
Their tongues are slit from their mouths
And as the blood spills it fills the bottomless,
Gluttonous, pit of the Oppressors.
There's no salvation for them.
Only Pain and Misery.
The cost to rape is free,
Or a couple hundred dollars
And a few months of probation
The price is freedom is non-existant,
There is no freedom, no salvation
when no one believes your pain,
no matter how severe the evidence.
They blame it on clothes,
But can you blame a five-year-old
Or an 11-year-old victim, for
Wearing clothes?
Can you blame a woman for wearing clothes?
You shame broken victims, and praise the
Abusers and rapists.
2019 marks the 400th anniversary of
The massacre and rape of my ancestors
As they were stolen from their homes.
I could only wish to have a fourth of their strength.
We've come so far, but we still fight for our human rights –
We're mass victims of police brutality,
We're prevented from doing our jobs,
Or simply spending time in a coffee shop with friends.
Black children believe themselves inferior
To their lighter-skinned classmates.
They hate how dark their skin is,
They hate their beautiful, natural hair,
They, like their parents and predecessors
Before them, are assimilated and forced
Into society's cruel stereotypes,
The last to be thought of.
The land of the free, is not free.
Change will come, eventually.
Until then, we need to fight,
We need to make our voices heard,
To be the voice for those kept in silence.
If we want to see a change,
We have to make it.
