A Figure In The Shadow
Boom. Boom. Boom. I hear outside my room. I get up, put on a robe, and start some coffee. I never can sleep again after I wake up. I see someone outside the window throwing rocks. I move closer to the window to get a better look.
The figure is masked but the moment it sees me it starts running. I don’t think. I just run outside, not even bothering to put shoes on. I feel the cold grass beneath my feet and look for the figure.
“Wh- Who’s there,” I call. The figure runs across the yard. I see something flicker in the moonlight. A gun.
“Victor,” I breathe. Then I feel something cold on my neck. It is the barrel of that gun.
“Victor,” I say again, louder.
“Correct,” comes his evil voice, “did you miss me, Katlyn,”
“Not really,” I say, “Why are you here,”
“To go on another date,” Victor says sweetly, “it’s been so long,”
“You think you’ll get me back by threatening to kill me?” I ask. He moves the gun. “Besides, I don’t go out with bad guys,”
“You think I’ve become a bad guy?!” he asks, faking innocence.
“Umm, yeah, you are throwing rocks at my window and putting a gun to my neck, definitely the aspects of a bad guy,” I say.
“I still love you, Kate,” he whispers in my ear, “I will pick you up Friday night at eight, or things will not end up well for you, and actually even if you do go on a date with me, things still will not end up well for you.”
“Charming, as always,” I say to myself.
I go inside and group Skype my best friends -- Mitchell Walls, Isaac Kramer, Aarik Taylor, Rachael Carpenter, and Meaghan Hill,-- about my crazy experience that night.

“Wait, Victor was here!,” Rachael exclaims after I finish my story.
“Yeah, it was creepy,” I shutter.
“You woke me up for this,” Isaac complains.
“Isaac, I was almost murdered by my ex-boyfriend,” I say.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, almost murdered almost schmurdered,” he drawls.
“Isaac.” I snap, “I have to leave the country, or he’ll kill me,”
“You have to leave?!” they all cry in unison.
“Yeah, I thought that it was obvious,” I say, “I’m leaving on Wednesday,”
“But, you can’t,” Isaac cries.
“We’ll come with you,” Meaghan suggests.
“No, I can’t make you do that, and anyway plane tickets are way to expensive for us all to go,” I say sadly.
“Who says we have to fly, I have an RV we can use,” Aarik offers.
“And I have some money in the bank we can use for gas and stuff,” Mitchell tells us.
“I do too,” says Rachael.
“Me too,” Isaac chimes in.
“Guys, your all very kind, but we would be looking over our shoulders the whole time,” I say.
“We are coming with you, Kate,” Meaghan says, “No matter if you like it or not,”
“Agreed,” choruses everyone.
“Thank you guys,” I smile.
