Chapter Twelve
Chapter Twelve
(Madeline's POV)
"I swear, I'm going to turn that wolf into a big fluffy coat." I muttered to myself as I trudged through the forest. I was nearly to Aslan's camp. Just a few more miles, then I'd be safe. Just a few more then I'd be ok. The blood flowing out of the gash on my arm was getting worse, and my vision was starting to become blurry. The world around me was becoming unsteady as it began to turn black.
"No...stay awake Madi." I told myself and continued on, knowing that if I stopped to rest I would never get back up off the ground. My left leg was constantly being dragged, cause it was broken in three different places. Let's just say I didn't have fun learning that piece of information. My sword continued to grow heavy at my side, strapped to my belt.
"Madeline!" I heard someone say, but it was barely a whisper. I didn't stop walking. Not just because if I stopped I'd probably pass out and die right on the spot.
"Madeline!" they shouted. I wasn't going to stop because of a whistle in the wind. Because that's exactly what it sounded like. Blood dripped down my face from a deep cut on my forehead. I looked back and noticed that I was leaving a trail of crimson, but I didn't care. I knew that the wolves would be able to track me easier, but since Aslan's camp was so close, I knew that I was pretty much already in the clear.
"Madeline!" the wind shouted again. But this time it sounded more like..... I quickly spun around and saw four figures approaching me through the woods. Two little ones were with them as well. I couldn't see them clearly, but I guess I didn't have to. I could tell from their voices that I already knew who they were.
And I was ticked off.
I had told Lucy not to come back, but what does she do? She completely disobeys me! She brings her whole family, putting them all in danger. I was steaming mad. I could feel my blood boil in the freezing whether. I continued to walk. If they wanted to help me, they would have to find me first. They would have to come get me.
"Madi! Wait!" Susan shouted. They were still really far away, giving me the advantage that I needed and deserved. I sprinted. The pain in my left leg was unbarable, but I just sucked it up. I didn't need those four. I didn't need Ed, Susan, Lucy, or.....
"Madi! Stop!" I heard Peter shout. I rolled my eyes and continued to run. I knew that I was faster than them. Especially when adrenaline was pumping through my veins. Four words kept on repeating in my mind.
I.
Don't.
Need.
Them.
I ran faster. I was running as if nothing was wrong with me. I jumped over stones, dodged tree branches, and came to a comeplete stop when I got to the river. The frozen river that I had to cross if I wanted to reach Aslan. I cautiously climbed down into the small ravine, ignoring all the pain in my nearly shredded limbs. I hooked my hands on the jutting stones, climbing down step by step.
"Madi!" I heard someone shout. I looked up, and saw that the Pevensies had reached the ravine. I smirked and continued to climb down. I was nearly there, when I heard a low growl come from a few yards away. The wolves had found me. Before I could think properly, I jumped down the rest of the way, landing gracefully on my feet. I ran across the ice, and continued to ignore the agony.
"Little miss Madi. What are you doing here?" I heard someone say. I remembered that voice. I smirked and pulled out my sowrd from my belt.
"You know, I promised myself that I woud get Lucy a new coat for her birthday. It seems that I'm looking at it right now." I said with an evil smile. The wolf growled evilly, hate and anger bowling in his eyes.
"Wait, aren't you that one wolf that I sliced up years ago while I was leaving Narnia? Oh wait...that was your brother." I said to him. He growled even louder.
"Shut up." he spat and attacked. I easily dodged his sloppy attempt to knock me off my feet and stabbed my sword into his back. He whimpered then went limp. I pulled my sword out from his pelt and looked at the other wolves. They growled, and slowly stalked forward towards me. The pain was starting to grow worse, and I leaned on my blood-covered sword, using it as a walking stick on the ice. I felt the frozen ground around me shudder, and I looked down. The ice was cracking.
"Well lookie here, little Madi is going to fall through the ice." they chuckled. I knew I was too weak to fight them all. I was lucky the last time I had faced them, but I knew my luck was running out. It was becoming harder to breathe, my lungs were filling up with my own blood. I fell to my knees as the wolves laughed at me.
"Awe, is Madi all tired out?" they chuckled. Then one by one, they fell to the ground, arrows sticking out of their sides and necks. Susan. I knew Saint Nicholas would end up giving her the bow and arrows. She seemed like the kind of girl that would be good at archery. I took a deep breath, knowing that I was safe now. The blood coming from the cut on my forehead was bleeding badly, leaving a wet river that was flowing down my cheek. I heard someone shouting my name, and then a loud CRACK coming from the ice.
"Madi! It's us!" I heard a familiar voice shout. It wasn't the Pevensies, it was.....
"Mom?" I asked and turned around. She wasn't my real mom, she was actually a beaver. She and Mr. Beaver let me stay with them when my parents died. I even started to call them my mother and father. We made eye contact and she gave me a sad smile. I stood up, but the ice around me cracked again. Little patterns formed on the frozen ground, surrounding me. Peter looked at me, fear in his eyes.
"Madi, stay there. We'll come to you." my mom said. She caustiously took a step towards me, but the ice continued to shatter. Peter put a hand on Mother's shoulder.
"Let me." he said and cautiously took a step. Incredibly, the ice didn't crack. I looked up at him, shocked. He gave me a small smile and took another step. The ice stayed strong. I started to take a step towards him. The ice was covered in little specks of my blood as I continued to walk towards Peter. Once we met in the middle, he took my hand and gave me a small smile. I smiled back.
"Tell me, now do you think I'm insane?" I asked him. His smile disappeared and I had to chuckle. I punched his shoulder playfully as he wrapped an arm around my waist, supporting me as I walked. My left leg was killing me, and he knew it. He quickly picked me up bridal style before I could say anything to stop him. I squealed in shock and we both chuckled.
"I heard that you have a soft spot for me." he whispered in my ear so the others wouldn't hear as we approached them. I rolled my eyes.
"I do not." I denied. He rolled his eyes, and we both chuckled again. After a few scary steps, we reached the safe side of the river. My mom and dad gave me big hugs, and Lucy gave me a drop of her little medicine that she got from Saint Nick. My leg immediately stopped hurting, and the cut on my forehead disappeared. After a few minutes of convincing my parents that I was fine and ready to start walking again, we wondered how we were all going to cross the river. I stepped away from the group to think. looked around at the trees, and an idea popped into my head. Peter stood beside me, and nudged my shoulder.
"You know, its a shame that you don't have feelings for me. Because I might've actually had feelings for you." he said with a grin as we looked at the now melting river. I scoffed, rolled my eyes, and quickly kissed his cheek. His face turned a deep shade of red, and I smiled.
"I know, it's a shame." I said as I turned around to tell my parents about my new amazing plan I had thought of.
