The Quest
Oaken POV
Today was like any other day, training my troops, and thinking about what tommorow was going to be like. But then, plot twist, I was summoned before the king. Now I wasn't really surprised but more startled. Why would the king want to see me now? I mean on a Thursday at 14:17 nothing will be happening and none of my soldiers could have been drunk doing unthinkable things, they only have Saturday's and Sunday's off.
"Sir?" On right he was still here.
"Oh sorry. I was in my thought process. You may be excused." I say and he left as if Satan was on his tail.
'I should know" I thought bitterly. 'Hey!' My subconscious said, 'The King want us! Let's go!' Oh right. Ok, let's go through the village.
It has always interested how the villagers have supported themselves on practically nothing. Us soldiers and generals who have the King are struggling even with his help.
I marveled at the sights even now, though I have walked through the village hundreds of time. The glass statues of the king reflected in the sun, made him look like a god, which he was to a degree. His armor, sword and shield gave off this aura of power and authority with a little hint of corruption and darkness, but nobody ever mentions it.
I arrive at the palace and it is even more stunning than the village. It has the gold and silver architecture with the classic white and black contrast. It looked amazing, and even more so with the throne in its glory. I piece of elegance fit for a king, and that is resting atop of it.
"Hello Oaken. How are you this fine day?" He asked.
"I am fine, sir. If you don't mind me asking, why did you call me here? I don't believe my soldiers did anything bad," I said mildly confused.
"No, it's nothing your soldiers have done. It is something that I need you to do." The King said.
"Yes sir. What is the mission sir." I said calmly and respectfully, but on the inside I was in turmoil. 'Why would he ask me? Why me out of any of the assassins or even the mages?'
"Well, I need you to go to a temple North of here. There are rumors that Limorex, Malum Anguis, Nix Gigas, and Ignis are rising, and I need you and a select couple of select others, to investigate and make sure that these rumors are not true. If you see them, kill on sight. Do not stall. I will send you and the other two to an inn, to get acquainted, and then on the morrow you will set out to this temple. Be wary, this temple has a legend surrounding it. It's said that this temple goes through the 4 directions in our land, it is a never ending temple. There is also a better myths but still not good. It is rumored that some monsters can drop legendary armor. So you see why I send you and not a random soldier." The Kind said solemnly
"Thank you King. If I may ask, who are my companions?"
"No, you must not be biased. You will see once you get to the inn. I will tell you this, however. You will be going with an assassin and a Mage. They are both very skilled, and will not tolerate being talked down upon. No hurry, you have only till sunrise to get prepared."
Damn. "Yes sir. Have a good night, sir."
"You too Oaken. Also, if you find any legendaries you must report them to me. I will record them and salvage them. Now goodbye."
Timeskip
Ok, here is the inn. Do I just... Go in? I guess. I walk in and guess who I see? My crush/Archenemy, Violet. Her in all her beauty, her green eyes shining with excitement and disappointment for having to go with me.
"Why are you here? This inn is for questers only. Unless..." She said with disgust and trailing off at the end suggesting she knew why I was here.
"You aren't part of the quest are you?!"
"Yes. Now I was told not to be biased, so let's keep it that way. You stay outta mine, I stay outta yours." I say, slightly hurt by the disgust in her voice, but not all to surprised by it.
"Ugh! Why did you have to put me to this King! I wish I-"
"Now now, children. We wouldn't want to kill each other before the quest even starts now would we?" Someone said behind us, shutting down Voilet.
"Veneficus! You are coming on the quest too?" Voilet said, excitedly. I knew Veneficus was like a father to her, and I was always slightly jealous. I never met my mother or father, so I grew up by myself.
"Yes Voilet I am. Now I know you are excited, but try to withhold your excitement, so you can sleep tonight. King knows we'll need it." He chuckles at the beginning, but turns solemn at the end.
"Hello, Veneficus. Glad we have an experienced Mage on our team of questers." I say, politely.
"Oh hello, Oaken. How are your troops doing?"
"Not bad, considering they haven't gotten in trouble for a few months or so. Now, if you excuse me, I will be going to go get a bed. Goodnight." I say, hastily, trying to get away from Voilet as quickly as possible.
"Alright, goodnight. And Voilet, I expect you to do the same." He says sternly.
"Yes, Veneficus."
This is just a one shot of how I think the DQ adventure started, and some backstory.
Matrix, out.
