CHAPTER 48
Morning Interruptions and Dodge Balls
Blake's POV
I woke up to meet with a pair of chocolate brown eyes staring at me.
"Hi," Terra said softly, making me smile at her.
"Were you watching me sleep?" I asked with a teasing smirk as her face grew red.
"I-It's just th-that...." She trailed.
"Just what?" I raised my eyebrows.
"Y-You look really adorable when you're asleep," she whispered shyly, blushing even more, and I chuckled.
"We didn't really get to spend a lot of time together last night as we had hoped," I said and she nodded. After the confusion last night, we both just went to bed immediately after Cole left the tent. I was hoping to spend some time with my girlfriend, but unfortunately, that didn't happen.
"Why don't we hang out today?" I asked.
"That would be great." She grinned and I leaned for a kiss, but before our lips could meet, I heard a voice shout my name.
"Why the fuck is he here so early in the morning?" I asked, recognizing the voice as Cole's as Terra chuckled and got up from her sleeping.
She unzipped the tent and Cole immediately walked in, making me roll my eyes.
"Good morning." He grinned at Terra before placing a kiss on her cheek and she giggled, hugging his waist.
"You can get out now," he said blankly to me and I gave him a pointed glare.
"Cole, be nice," Terra warned playfully and he rolled his eyes in response.
"It's our last day here. Want to go see around the place one more time?" Cole asked and Terra nodded excitedly, making my jaw drop to the floor.
"But we were supposed to hang out," I said.
"Oh right, you could come along too!" Terra said happily and I shook my head.
"No, we don't want him ruining the fun," Cole said.
"What's so fun in exploring a forest?" I asked with a bored look.
"It's beautiful, Blake," Terra gushed.
"I don't find it that interesting," I said blankly and she let out a sigh.
"Why don't I go sightseeing with Cole now, and after that, we'll spend the day together. What do you say?" Terra asked, and I mumbled a quick 'okay'.
"Let me go get showered and changed," Terra told Cole before walking out of the tent. Cole gave me a teasing smirk before following out behind her and I let out a sigh.
"So much for spending time with my girlfriend," I mumbled to myself as I got up and rolled my sleeping bag.
I walked back to my tent to see Lynne peacefully sleeping on her mattress. An inevitable smile appeared on my lips before I sat down next to her and slowly caressed her face.
She leaned in closer to my touch before snuggling onto my lap and I smiled as I pushed the hair away from her face.
I pouted my lips and closed my eyes as I leaned in to place a kiss on her cheek.
"Blake?" I heard her call and my eyes grew wide open to see her awake.
"What are you doing?" she asked tiredly as I lifted my face away from her and gave her a sheepish look.
"I-I was going to k-kiss you," I said flustered.
"Kiss me? Blake, friends don't do that!" she reminded.
"I know. I was going to kiss your cheek," I said and she gave me a pointed look as she pushed me away and sat up straight on her bed.
She looked around, taking the place in before looking back at me.
"Where's Cole?" she asked and my face fell on hearing his name.
"Why do you want to know?" I asked grimly.
"I was just curious, Blake. He was here last night," she said.
"He's with Terra," I replied blankly.
"That explains the sour look," she said, getting up from her mattress. I stood up too and followed her as she walked out of the tent.
I saw Asher walked towards us and Lynne placed a kiss on his cheek before walking away from us.
"Why was Addy here?" he asked as he watched her retrieving figure.
"She slept here last night," I replied.
"But I thought you were with Terra." He raised an eyebrow.
"I was. We spend the night in Cole's tent," I told him.
"And Cole slept in our tent?" he asked and I nodded my head.
"Wasn't Luke the one who was sharing a tent with Cole?" He asked and I nodded again.
"Yeah, he was with Haz- About that...." I trailed off and his jaw fell to the ground.
"Luke slept with my girlfriend?!"
"I'm sure that they just slept and nothing else," I said hesitantly.
"Really, Blake? Are you really sure?" He asked sarcastically and I scrunched my face up before shaking my head.
"I will murder him!" he said.
"Asher, calm down," I said and all he did was give me a stronger glare.
"Hey, Asher," a female voice called from behind him and he turned around to meet up with a girl unfamiliar to me. His face visibly calmed down and he smiled at her, making me raise an eyebrow at the sudden change in his mood.
"Blake, you know Amelia, right?" Asher asked and I gave him a confused look.
"Of course, you don't know me," she scoffed, "It's not like I'm the one who spends the most time with your girlfriend at school."
"Right," I said as my mind clicked on who she was, "You're the one sharing a tent with Terra."
"So, I see that you two have gotten acquainted," I said suggestively and Asher grinned as he wrapped an arm around Amelia.
"Who is she?" I heard a voice say and I smiled, seeing Lynne.
"This is Amelia. She's Terra's friend," I said and Lynne gave us a grimace before eyeing her up and down.
"Why are we talking to her?" she asked.
"You're just as sweet as people say you are," Amelia commented sarcastically.
"And you are just as irrelevant as the lack of people talking about you." Lynne rolled her eyes and I did a mental facepalm.
"She just likes to speak her mind," I said.
"No, I don't," she chuckled, "I just like letting people know that I don't like them."
"You don't know her, Addy," Asher said and she narrowed her eyes at him.
"She's a scholarship student. She's probably the one feeding all those rumors." Lynne said.
"It's not me, Addelyn. Look at the way you're behaving. You're the one feeding it," Amelia said and a gasp left Lynne's lips.
"You fucking bitch! You don't know who you're talk-"
"Ladies! Stop fighting." Asher interrupting Lynne.
"Why don't we leave?" I whispered to Lynne but she averted her gaze to someone behind Asher.
"Hazel," she said with an evil smirk playing on her lips and Asher's eyes widened with fear before he turned to meet her.
"What going on?" Hazel asked standing next to Asher.
"Meet Asher's new friend," Lynne said sourly, making Hazel give Amelia a curious look.
"A friend?" Hazel raised an eyebrow.
"Just a friend," Asher said.
"That's what Blake said," Lynne murmured, making my eyes widen.
"I'm just going to leave," Amelia said before backing away from us.
"So, that was the girl you were with last night?" Hazel asked Asher.
"Yes, so? I heard that you were with Luke," Asher said impassively.
"I was, and I had fun," she replied, making him clench his jaw.
"I had fun too. With Amelia," Asher said before walking away and Hazel huffed at him before storming off in the other direction.
"Did you have to do that?" I asked, turning to Lynne.
"Yes, the sooner they realize that they hate this open relationship, the better," Lynne said before walking away from me and I rolled my eyes.
After a few minutes of wandering around, I went to the main area where the students gathered around for the games and I mentally groaned seeing that our coach was going to accompany us today.
I felt someone tap my back and I turned around to meet Terra, grinning at me.
"Now can you finally spend some time with me?" I asked and she nodded.
"What do you think about cooking?" she asked and I raised an eyebrow.
"Cooking?"
"Yeah, Mrs. Davis asked me if I could volunteer to make lunch," she said.
"What the fuck? But what about us spending time together?" I asked.
"You could volunteer too!" she suggested.
"I can't cook to save my life," I said and she let out a sigh.
"Then we could spend time after lunch?" she asked and I nodded dishearteningly, watching her walk away.
It was just a minute later when Lynne walked in, latched onto Cole's arms, making my clenched fists shake.
Cole's gaze caught mine and he smirked at me before holding her closer to him, making her give him a curious glance.
I was so close to walking up there and ripping him off her, but before I can, the coach stood in between us, blocking my view.
"We're going to play dodge ball," he announced, and everyone around me cheered.
"Everyone on the right will form a circle outside and everyone on the left will be inside the circle," he ordered, and I nodded before forming a circle outside. A smirk appeared on my face as Cole joined the crowd inside the circle, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on the ball.
Lynne got knocked out in the first round and she glared at the person who threw the ball before walking out of the circle. I grinned and grabbed her hands, pulling her to me, making her let out a surprised yelp.
"What?" she asked.
"Stay with me," I said, "And watch me knock that fucker off."
"You mean Cole?" she asked, following my gaze to him and I nodded.
I picked up the ball and gathered all the pent-up anger in me before aiming it at Cole with a high force. It almost hit him, but he was quick to move, and the ball hit some other student who groaned out loud in pain, making me scrunch my face up.
The coach helped the kid up and grabbed the ball before walking towards me with a disapproving look.
"Be gentler, Vandy! If only you used this energy for football," he mumbled.
"Don't pretend like I'm not your favorite." I grinned before grabbing the ball from him and aiming it at Cole again only for it to miss him.
"There are other players than Cole, you know," I heard a voice say and I rolled my eyes before turning to Lynne.
"Well, he's the one that I want to beat and watch me do it," I said confidently as I watched the students throw around the ball, waiting for it to be my turn again.
By the end of the game, I was the one who knocked out the greatest number of players except for the one I really wanted to defeat, and Cole was declared the winner.
Lynne grinned widely before hopping over to him and crashing her lips against him, taking him by surprise before he responded back.
My eyes averted to the ball lying on the floor and I picked it up before aiming it at him, and this time, it hit him square on his shoulder. With the sudden force, he fell to the ground, breaking off from the kiss with Lynne.
Lynne turned to me with a surprised look before quickly helping him up. I glared at them before turning around and walking away. I heard a pair of footsteps run up to me, but I kept walking as Lynne caught up with me.
"Why the fuck would you do that?" she asked, grabbing my arm to stop me in my tracks.
"I just felt like it." I shrugged.
"You could have hurt him badly, Blake," she said and I took in an exasperated breath.
"Why do you care so much about him?"
"Because he's my friend," she answered.
"And nothing more?" I raised an eyebrow.
"What is it to you if there's something more?" she asked impassively.
I clenched my jaw before turning away from her and taking a step away from her.
"Blake," she called, "You're dating the girl he loves. You're already hurting him enough, and you don't need to do more of it."
"Stop pretending like he's so innocent, Lynne."
"What did he do to you?" she asked and I let out a huff.
"Don't you see! He's using you to piss me off," I said.
"So? Just stop responding to it then," she said as if it was so easy and I shook my head before walking away from her.
"Blake!" she called and I groaned, stopping in my tracks.
"What?" I asked, turning around to face her again.
"What's wrong? This isn't like you," she said softly, wrapping an arm around my waist.
"I just hate him so much," I said.
"Why?"
"Well, I haven't gotten any time with my girlfriend for the whole time that we've been dating because she's always with him. And now he's taking up my best friend too!" I said angrily.
"He's Terra's best friend, Blake. Of course, she'd be close to him. But at the end of the day, you're the one she picked as her boyfriend. Not him. You have nothing to worry about."
"What about you? Do you know how it feels when you keep pushing me away?" I asked.
"I wasn't pushing you away, Blake. I was just pushing away the relationship we had because it didn't feel right," she said.
"So, you'd rather have it with him?" I asked.
"It's different with him."
"How so?" I asked. Her mouth parted open before moving her gaze to the ground.
"It just is," she said and I let out a tired sigh.
"You need to start packing," she said, "I'm going to get Asher to pack for me."
I let out a chuckle and she smiled before pulling me into a hug. I wrapped my arms around, holding her tight and savoring every second of having her close to me.
She pulled away from me and kissed my cheek before leaving the tent. I sighed and started packing my bags, and after lunch, it was time to leave.
I got on the bus and spotted Terra, leaving an empty seat next to her. I walked up to her, and she smiled as I sat down next to her.
"How was the volunteering?" I asked.
"It was fun," she replied, and I awkwardly nodded my head, having nothing more to say.
She hugged my arm and placed her head on my shoulder, making me smile at her before softly kissing her head.
I looked up and saw Lynne standing in front of me. She gave me a sad smile before walking to the back of the bus, and my gaze followed her as she sat down next to Cole.
She smiled at him before leaning closer and pecking his lips. He wrapped an arm around her as she rested her head on his shoulder, making me gulp as I felt my heart clench.
I turned back to the front and closed my eyes, having my head immediately fill with Cole and Lynne, making my heart clench at the thought of him having everything that I used to.
