36. Unpleasing Tests And Paternal Bonds
CHAPTER 36
Unpleasing Tests and Paternal Bonds
Blake's POV
"Wakey, wakey Blakey!" I heard Lynne's voice.
"Wakey, wa–"
"Don't say that again." I mumbled, interrupting her before wrapping my arms around her waist and pulling her towards me. She let out a loud squeal as she fell on top of me and I smiled, still keeping my eyes closed.
"Let go of me, you idiot!" She yelled.
"Is it always this hard to wake him up?" I heard another voice and my eyes snapped open.
"Dad?" I asked, sitting up straight. He gave me a smile and I quickly let go of Lynne before she got up, giving me a glare.
"Will you be staying for breakfast, Marc?" Lynne asked my dad and he nodded with a polite smile.
"Great! I'll go let the maids know." She said before exiting the room.
As soon as she was out, he turned to me.
"We have an appointment at the hospital for the DNA test."
"Right. That was today." I mumbled, getting up from the bed.
"You didn't tell her." He said.
"Well, it's not the most fun conversation to have." I said before entering the bathroom and slamming the door shut.
After coming back out, I walked to the dining room where Lynne and my dad sat, laughing about something.
"How come I've never heard of the time you peed on your maid's face?" Lynne asked as I entered the room.
I rolled my eyes before sitting down next to her and her smile dropped seeing my expression. My dad and Lynne didn't say anything for the rest of the meal as we ate in silence.
After breakfast, my dad and I were about to leave when Lynne called me. My dad gestured me to go to her before he exited the house.
"Are you alright?" She asked and I nodded my head.
"You're not. You've been upset ever since you realized your dad was there." She said, stepping closer to me and slowly caressing my cheek.
"I'm fine. It's just the whole thing about the divorce." I lied and she nodded before standing on her toes and placing a kiss on my cheek.
"Have fun on your father's and son's day out." She said and I chuckled at my dad's lame excuses.
"I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun." I said and she placed one more kiss on my cheek before I walked away.
By the time I got out, my dad was already waiting for me in the car. I entered the backseat and sat next to him.
"Blake, whatever the results ar–"
"I know, you'll still be my father."
"Exactly." He said as the driver started the car.
"So, when will the results come?" I asked.
"In around a week maybe." He said and I nodded.
Once we reached the hospital, I stood aside as my dad talked to the receptionist.
"You can wait here. I have some papers to fill." He said before entering a room as I stayed in the waiting area.
A curious frown appeared on my face when I saw a familiar figure walk towards the water cooler. I walked in that direction, getting close until I confirmed who it was.
"Terra?" I called and she turned around with surprised look.
"Hey," she said with a sweet smile on her face, "What are you doing here?"
"I came here with my dad. He has some checkups to do." I lied, "What about you?"
"I've been volunteering here for the past 2 weeks." She said, "I spend two hours with a disabled child every day. I like spending time with kids and I just thought that it would look good on my college applications."
"Right. College. I haven't even thought about it yet." I said before letting out a nervous laugh.
"It's senior year. I think it's about time you start worrying about it." She said.
"I know. I just haven't gotten a lot of time." I shrugged.
"Don't your parents keep high standards? Cole's parents make him study twenty-four-seven to make sure he gets into an Ivy League."
"I don't study for one-fourth of that time and I can still score better than him." I stated smugly and she chuckled.
"Mr. Vanderbilt." I heard a sound call and I turned around to meet with a nurse holding a few papers in her hands.
"You need to sign this consent form and then head to the room 3 to take your blood sample." She said, handing me the papers.
"I already signed the consent form." I said.
"That was for taking your sample. This is for performing the genetic test." She said before walking into the room I was supposed to go to.
"Genetic test?" I heard Terra ask and my eyes widened before I turned to her, remembering that she was here in the first place.
She frowned before taking the papers from my hand and going through them.
"Your dad....." She trailed off and I quickly took the papers from her hand.
"I should go." I said, "And maybe you should get back to the kid you're taking care of."
"She's asleep." She said.
"Blake, you don't have to go through this alone. I'll wait till you return back." She said, grabbing my hand a softly squeezing it.
"Thank you." I smiled before pulling her into a hug.
I let go of her before walking into the room where my they were taking my dad's blood sample. After my sample was taken, I immediately got out of the room and saw Terra waiting there for me.
"Is it over?" She asked.
"They took the blood samples. It'll take around a week for the results to come out."
"Just call me whenever you need me." She said and I smiled at her.
"Is your volunteering time over?" I asked.
"There are a few minutes left. But I don't think the child I'm helping with today is going to wake up in that time." She said.
"Great! My dad is going to come out now and then we could give you a ride home." I said.
"Are you sure? I don't want to be a bother to you and your dad." She said hesitantly.
"That's alright. Just come with me." I said.
I slowly grabbed her hand and intertwined our fingers together before looking up at her with a smile.
"Let's go." I said and she nodded before we walked together.
After we reached my car, we decided to wait outside till my dad comes in.
"Could I ask you something?" She asked.
"Sure. What is it?"
"Why do you and Cole hate each other?" She asked.
"He does not trust me with you." I said.
"But why not? He says that you're a bad person. But I know that he does not actually believe that." She said, "I remember how he used to always talk about his friends. He used to have great things to say about you."
"Really?" I asked with a smile creeping up my lips.
"Yes. When I first joined here, you were a little too flirty for my liking." She said and I let out a soft chuckle, "But I still liked you because of all the things he said about you."
"He said great things about your other friends too. But so far you're the only person who proved him to be right." She said.
"My friends are amazing. They're just not used to having anyone outside their circle." I explained, "Jack, Asher, Cole and I had been friends ever since we were in nursery. When Lynne joined, she became close with the four of us pretty quickly and then she befriended Hazel through an awkward apology. Kate and Luke joined school a little later, in the beginning of high school. But they immediately became close to us somehow."
"But I'm different from the rest of you." Terra sighed, "And I guess your friends don't like that."
"That's because they don't know you well, Terra." I said turning towards her, "I'm sure they'll love you once they spend some time with you."
She smiled and lowered her head, making a smile of my own appear on my lips. I slowly used a fingertip to bring her face up to look at mine and her deep brown eye bore into mine. I felt a fast beat in my heart as I slowly moved my gaze to her lips and leaned my face towards hers. She parted her lips waiting for mine to touch hers and I softly brushed my lips against hers.
"Blake!" I heard my dad's sound and we both quickly moved away from each other before facing him.
"Who is this?" He asked, giving Terra polite smile.
"This is my friend, Terra." I introduced.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Vanderbilt." She said.
"Nice to meet you too, Terra." He said, "You were his date for the charity ball, am I right?" He asked.
"Yes." She said, lowering her head.
"Don't worry. I did hear some nasty things. But I trust my son's choice in friends." He said, smiling at her and she lifted her head with a relieved look on her face.
"Dad, can we give her ride home?" I asked.
"Sure. I'll sit in the front." He said and I nodded before entering the backseat with Terra.
"Take us to the Hamilton's Estate." I ordered the driver and he nodded before driving.
"Thanks for the ride, Mr. Vanderbilt." Terra said to my dad once we reached Cole's house.
"You're welcome. Feel free to bother Blake anytime you want." He chuckled and I rolled my eyes.
"Will do." She laughed before turning to me.
"Bye Blake," She said before placing a kiss on my cheek. She got out and I watched with a smile as she walked towards the house.
"Are you going to come home?" My dad asked.
"No. I don't feel like it." I said and he nodded sadly before turning towards the driver.
"We'll drop him off at the Frederick's mansion and then drive home." He told the driver.
The car started and within a few minutes, we reached Lynne's house.
"Bye dad," I said before getting off the car and walking towards the house.
I opened the door and saw Lynne sitting on the couch with her attention on her phone. As soon as I walked in, she looked up at me with a grin.
"Finally! You're here!" She exclaimed before jumping of the couch and walking towards me.
"Come with me." She said before grabbing my hand and pulling me upstairs.
She took me to the guestroom that I had been sleeping in for the past few days and opened the door, letting me enter.
"I moved all your clothes to this closet." She said opening the closet, "Now you can't come into my room in the middle of the night saying that you want to change your shirt." She said and I playfully rolled my eyes.
"I moved all your toiletries to this bathroom so you can shower here from now on." She said, "If you shower in mine, you'll have the urge to beg me to join you every five seconds." She said, making me chuckle.
"This is officially your new room." She said, circling her arms around my neck as mine wrapped around her waist.
"But one question." She said, "Why don't you go home?"
"Uhh..... well.... I–"
"That's alright though. I love having you here." She said and I smiled at her before placing a kiss on her forehead.
Looking at her face, I felt guilty knowing that her smile wouldn't be there if she knew that I was with Terra.
"I'm sorry." I said.
"For?"
"For anytime that I ever upset you." I said.
"Alright. That's weird. Did you do something?" She asked.
"Well...... I saw Terra today." I said and her smile dropped, "And we spent some time together."
"Oh", she said, slowly removing her hands from my neck.
"It was a total coincidence. We just met and we talked." I said and she nodded.
"As friends." I added.
"Blake, it's alright. I know that you see her as more than a friend and that's fine." She said, "If you want to be with her, go for it. I'll be happy for you."
I smiled at her before pulling her into a hug.
"You're the best best friend ever." I mumbled, burying my head in her hair.
"I know. I'm the best at everything." She said and I chuckled before pulling away from her.
"So, do you want to have a sleep over tonight to celebrate my new room?" I asked with a smirk and she groaned.
"You're always going to find an excuse to get me to sleep with you, right?"
"Yes." I grinned.
"Fine. For tonight." She said.
"Great! Do you want to shower with me to celebrate my new bathroom?" I asked and she gave me a pointed look.
"Blake, don't push your luck." She said and I chuckled before placing a kiss on her cheek.
