28. Daddy Issues and Outdoor Conversations

I just realized that I haven't put any pictures of Matt Lanter in here even though I have a HUGE obsession with him (He is the guy on the cast list for Blake) Yeah, so that's Blake ^^^^

CHAPTER 28
Daddy Issues and Outdoor Conversations

Blake's POV

As soon as I entered the house, I was greeted with the sight of my dad sitting on the couch with a few documents in his hands. As soon as he heard my footsteps, he looked up at me and gave me a small smile.

"I thought you were staying over at Addelyn's." He said but instead of responding, I kept walking towards the staircase.

"Blake, wait!" He said and I stopped in my tracks. "We're not done talking."

"We are." I said coldly.

"Please, Blake. We need to figure this out." He said and I sighed. I walked towards the couch and he moved to side, making space for me to sit next to him.

"You know I love you." He said as I sat down.

"I don't really feel the love when you're asking me for a paternity test." I said, rolling my eyes.

"I'm sorry, Blake." He sighed, "I just found out last week that your mom had an affair before you were born. It's been bothering me ever since."

"How did you find out about it?" I asked.

"I found these with some old files." He said, handing over a few photos to me which were dated almost a year before I was born. I clenched my fist at the sight of my mom with a random man that I have never seen before in my life.

"So, my mom is a cheater." I said, more like questioned, as I lowered my head.

"She isn't." He said and I frowned.

"I thought you were married back then."

"We were. But we broke up and we were in the process of getting a divorce. Then we found out that she was pregnant, so, we decided to stay together."

"So, you two were together only because of me?" I asked and he nodded.

"Do you love her?" I asked and he looked down at his lap in silence.

"Did you ever love her?"

"Yes." He spoke.

"Did you love her after I was born?" I asked and again, he didn't respond.

"So, you both have been lying to me and pretending for the past eighteen years?" I asked, raising up from my seat.

"We just wanted you to have a stable family." He said.

"Well, this seems very stable when you're asking me for a fucking paternity test!" I shouted.

"Blake, I don't have any doubts that you're my son." He sighed.

"Then what's the point of taking a test?"

"I just want to make sure. I don't want to live with the possibility that you might be someone else's child."

"And if I am?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Nothing has to change. You'll still be my son."

"I need a moment to take this all in." I said before climbing up the stairs.

As soon as I got into my bedroom, I fell face first on my bed before taking out my phone and switching it on.

There were multiple notifications on my phone but there were only two of them that captured my attention. I played the first voicemail sent by Lynne before placing it close to my ear.

"You won't pick up the, phone, will you?" I heard her voice, "Anyways, I can't believe that you think that I'm hooking up with that idiot. You're the only one I'm sleeping with so, don't worry, I'm not going to bring you any Cole STDs. Now that it's cleared up, come fuck me." She said and I chuckled, already forgetting about my problems.

I played on the second voicemail she sent with a smile on my lip.

"Okay, it's been seven minutes and thirty-two seconds since my last voicemail and you still haven't called me back. If you don't call me in the next five minutes, I'm going to show up at your house and tell your parents that I'm pregnant. So, you better call me back fast." She threatened and I laughed but stopped myself when I heard a knock on the door.

"What?" I called.

"Mr. Vanderbilt, there's someone at the door." The maid's voice spoke, "She says she wants to meet you."

"Yeah, I'll be there in a second." I said with a smile before getting up from my bed and walking into the bathroom to wash my face.

I walked downstairs and eyed the living room with a frown on my face. There were old documents lying all over the place and pictures of my mom and that other guy who could be my father lied on the table, making it unsuitable to receive any guests.

With a sigh, I walked towards the door and opened it.

"Terra?" I asked when I realized that the person behind the door wasn't the girl I was expecting.

"Hi!" Terra greeted.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" I asked.

"Cole called me and said that I shouldn't let you in the house if you showed up because you're in a bad mood and you'd probably try to get some from me." She said and I rolled my eyes.

"So, you came here so that I could get some from you?" I smirked and her eyes widened.

"N-No. Of c-course n-not." She stuttered and a very prominent blush appeared on her face, clearly visible despite the darkness of the night.

"I was just kidding." I laughed at her expression and she slowly calmed down.

"Well, I know that you won't try to take advantage of me like that." She said. "I just thought I'd come check up on you since there is something bothering you."

"I'm fine." I lied.

"Are you sure?" She asked concerned and I nodded.

"Is it okay we stand outside?" I asked, "My mom is doing some renovation inside." I said, giving her a fake excuse.

"Sure", she said, stepping away from the door. I took one last glance at the messy living room before walking out and switching on the lights to the front porch as she took a seat.

"So, how did you know where I lived?" I asked.

"You're a Vanderbilt. Is there anyone who does not know where you live?" She asked.

"That makes me feel very safe." I commented sarcastically and she chuckled.

"Well, I'm glad that you're here." I smiled at her and she returned the gesture.

"We didn't really get a chance to talk after school." She said.

"You can thank Cole for that." I scoffed and she let out a small laugh.

"He has always been a little protective over me. I find it kind of sweet." She smiled.

"I find it very annoying." I rolled my eyes.

She chuckled, "That's exactly what he says whenever I call you sweet."

"You think I'm sweet?" I smirked and she blushed, making my smirk turn into a soft smile.

"Yeah. I mean, you're always nice to me and I don't really have a lot of people in my life who are actually nice to me." She said, "That's why I was kind of surprised when you stopped talking to me. I thought you didn't really care."

"I do care about you." I said, placing my hand on hers. "It's just that I couldn't lose Lynne."

"She means more to you." She said and I lowered my head.

"Do you have feelings for her?" She asked softly.

"No, we're just friends."

"I don't understand." She said, "How could you two be friends after what you do?"

"We just are. It's always been like that and I can't even imagine it any other way." I replied.

"What if she sees it another way?" She asked and I looked up at her with a frown, "She's a little possessive over you."

"I think it's no secret that she has something against you. Other than that, it's nothing. I've been with plenty of girls before and she's had no issues." I said.

"Oh, so, you both don't have any feelings for each other?" She asked and I shook my head.

She nodded, "Let's talk about something else, shall we?" She asked.

"So, how has your life been over the past two months?" I asked.

"Really?" She deadpanned.

"I'm trying to make a conversation here." I laughed.

"Well, I spend most of time either studying, reading a book or hanging out with Cole. My life isn't all that interesting." She chuckled.

"Well, all I did was...." I trailed off, thinking about what I had done, but the only memories that came into my mind was all the time I spent with Lynne.

"I cooked." I finally said. "It was a disaster though."

"Did you burn down the kitchen?" She asked.

"No, way worse. I kind of ruined my friendship with Lynne."

"By cooking?" She furrowed her eyebrows.

"Sort of. It all started with me cooking." I said. "But if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't be talking to you right now." I smiled.

"I still don't understand." She gave me a puzzled look and I laughed before we went into a comforting silence.

"I missed you." She spoke, breaking that silence, "I know that we haven't known each other for that long. But there's something about you that makes me feel comfortable." She said and I smiled.

"I feel the same way."

My hand on her slowly intertwined our fingers and I looked at our joint hands before looking up at her face.

She smiled at me for a second but her smile dropped as her gaze moved to my lips. She slowly leaned in and soon, I felt her lips touch mine and my entire body froze, not knowing how to respond. I felt a strong beat in my heart as her lips moved against mine and I felt my hand move upwards to cup her face as I finally kissed her back.

My other hand left hers and wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer to me just as she placed both her hands on my chest, probably feeling my heart beat hard against it. I slowly nibbled on her lower lip and she slightly opened it, allowing my tongue to enter and soon, I could feel her tongue move softly against mine.

A loud roar of a car snapped me back to reality as I hastily pulled away from her. I looked to my gate only to catch a glimpse of that car before it sped off and I turned my gaze back to Terra.

"I'm sorry. I can't do this." I sighed, "I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have kissed you back." I said, running a hand through my hair.

"N-No", she stuttered, "I-I'm sorry. I-I shouldn't h-have kissed you. What was I thinking? Of course you don't see me like that. You just wanted to be friends and I crossed the line. I can't believe I did that. Oh my god! You probably don't want to be friends with me now. I messed up. I can't beli–"

"Terra!" I called, interrupting her nervous ramble. "I do have feelings for you."

"Y-You do?"

"I really do." I said, looking into her eyes, "But I can't give you a relationship, if that's what you want."

"W-Why not?" She asked and I didn't know what to say, so I just looked at my feet.

"Is this because of Addelyn?" She asked softly and I still didn't know how to reply.

Getting in a relationship means ending things with Lynne and I didn't even want to think about that ever happening.

"So, it is her, isn't it?" She asked and this time, I nodded in response.

"It's not just her." I said and she looked up at me.

"It would hurt Cole too." I said, knowing about his feelings for Terra, "Sure, he pisses the fuck out of me sometimes, but he was still my friend and I would never want to deliberately hurt him."

Her eyes widened and a quick flash of realization and guilt flashed through her face.

"Oh my god, Cole!" She exclaimed, "I-I wasn't t-thinking." She said and she quickly got up from her seat.

"H-He is going to hate me when he finds out." She panicked.

"No, Terra. It's going to be fine." I said grabbing her face in my hands, making her look at me. "He's not going to find out. We don't have to tell him or Lynne. Let's just keep this between us, okay?" I asked and she nodded.

I closed my eyes and placed a kiss on her forehead before looking at her again.

"How did you get here?" I asked.

"By the bus." She replied.

"Well, it's late now." I said, "Let me drive you."

"N-No that's fine." She said, "I'll just go on my own."

"No, I'm driving you." I said, pulling out my car keys which were still in my pocket, "I need to be somewhere anyways." I said as I lead her to my car.

That car I saw speed away earlier; it seemed awfully familiar.

Author's Note

You guys are the best people on earth and I love you so much so please do not kill me............ love you!!!

Moving on to more important things........

So, a question that has been haunting every single reader of this book is: why is Blake so oblivious to Addelyn's feelings?

Well, here's your answer. His parents have been in a loveless relationship his whole life. I don't know much about this, but from the research I did; a loveless marriage actually affects the child's future romantic relationship. Because, the relationship they grew up seeing isn't healthy and isn't even real love, which make it difficult for them to recognize love when they see it.
