Learning to strike

Tw: abuse mention

Shiloh was walking out to take out the trash, she slammed the door which cut off the sound of her parents yelling at her that came from inside. Miguel was outside and he looked over at her, his eyes soft and a frown on his face. He assumed that's why she was so hard, her parents yelling at her all the time, he could hear the fights sometimes when the door was closed. Shiloh saw him and her face instantly hardened as she glared at him. "What?" He glanced down. "Nothing..sorry, it's just I heard your parents..." He said awkwardly. Shiloh shoved the the trash into the bin. "My life is none of your concern!" She snapped at him.

Miguel approached her slowly, hands raised and out like he was moving towards a wounded animal. "I know." He said in a soft voice. She cast him a small glare, her eyes dark. "Why don't you come with me to meet Mr. Lawrence...it would give you an excuse to get out of the house.' He offered her. Shiloh contemplated it for a moment before sighing. "I suppose so." Miguel smiled at that. "Cool! Um do you have a bike? I don't have a car but if you need a ride we could manage." He said a bit awkwardly. Shiloh nods. "I'll be fine." She walked inside for a moment before coming back with a helmet. She walked over to a sleek black motorcycle. "Whoa.." Miguel said with wide eyes making her smirk as she got onto the bike. "Lead the way."

Miguel, Shiloh and Johnny stood in the new Cobra kia studio. "So am I gonna get the karate pajamas too?" Miguel started to ask. Shiloh gave him a odd look. "Karate pajamas?" She asked in a plain tone "Quite!" Johnny said in a loud voice making Miguel jump. Shiloh turned her brown eyes to the older man. "Don't yell at me, that tends not to work well for people." She said as a warning but Johnny ignored her and continued talking. "The student will only speak when spoken too. Is that understood?" Miguel nods. "Um, yes." He told Johnny. Johnny just tilted his head in a questioning manner. "Yes sir." Miguel said this time. "You will always refer to me as Sensei. Is that understood?" Miguel nods "Yes Sensei."
"And these aren't pajamas it's a gi. You'll get one when you've earned it." Johnny told his students. "You ready to start your training?" Shiloh planted her hands on her hips as she looked at him. "Yes Sensei. " Miguel said with a smile. "Are you Miss Mincsar?" He asked Shiloh. "Yeah."   Johnny lunged and took Miguel  to the ground quickly, he landed hard on his side. He groaned in pain. "First lesson. Strike first." Johnny said, standing up. "Don't wait for the enemy to attack. " Miguel was getting up, hand on his side. "You could have given me a warning-" "Quite!" Johnny yelled. "We do not train to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak. " Johnny said, circling the boy. Miguel pulled out a enhaler. "On the street, in competition. A man confronts you he's the enemy, what is the problem Mr. Diaz?" He stood in front of him. "There is no problem, Sensei ." Miguel said weakly. "You punched me and I have asthma so.." Johnny took the enhaler from him and threw it across the room, it breaking. "Not anymore. We don't allow weakness in this dojo. So you can leave all your asthma and your peanut allergies and all that other made up bullshit outside. Is that understood?" Johnny asked. Shiloh narrowed her eyes at Johnny, that seemed a bit cruel. "Yeah, but those are real medical problems, I just-" He was cut off by Johnny's intense gaze. "Yes Sensei." He said, his head bowing. Johnny then turned to Shiloh, he threw a punch which she blocked. He was impressed but continued, he kicked at her,  the girl ducking under before sweeping his other leg before bouncing back up and landing a kick on the ribs. Johnny looked up at her shocked. Miguel stared at her with wide eyes. "Where did you learn that?!" He asked her. Shiloh looked to the taller boy. "Streets of new York city." She shrugged.

"Cobra kia isn't just about karate, it's a way of life. Learn that first lesson." Johnny said as he stood back up. He pointed to a wall where Strike first. Strike hard. No mercy was written in bold, black paint. "Strike first is the initial step to victory. Like when you're at a party and you see a hot babe. You don't wait for another guy to go talk to her first do you?" Miguel looked at him with a cute, awkward smile. "Well I've never been to a party, so.." Johnny sighed. "Big surprise. Okay look, striking first is about being aggressive. If you're not being aggressive you're being a wuss." After a bit more talking Johnny had Miguel do 50 push-ups on his knuckles. He could barely do one. "Just do some crunches, don't you have gym class or something?" Johnny said, "Yeah." Miguel said breathless. Johnny then looked at Shiloh, sizing her up. She stared back, her gaze intense. Johnny could see she came from a rough place. She had fading cuts on her face as well as scars littering  her. "Welcome to the team." He finally settled on. She gave a sharp nod, going to do pull ups.

Miguel looked over at her, when she pulled herself up her shirt lifted some, showing the tops of her hips. He was about to look away when he saw there was a long cut that was stitched up. He frowned before going back to his crunches.

A jingle was heard from the bell over the door, a man walked in. "Howdy there Mr. , uh, Lawrence?" Miguel sat up. "It's Sensei." He said. Johnny glanced at him. "Miguel, shut up." He approached the man and said in a happier tone. Shiloh dropped down from the bar for pull ups, looking at the man. "What brings you in? Looking to lose that gut and learn to kick some ass?" The man looked at him. "No. I'm from the city heath department. This is a list of requirements to open a exercise studio." He reached into his satchel and pulled out some papers. "This isn't a exercise studio it's a karate dojo." Johnny told the man. "Same deal." He replied then started to walk and look around "Wow. This place needs a lot of work. You're not open for business yet are You?" He looked at Miguel. "You, you a costumer here?" Johnny moved forward and cut in. "No he's just a illegal I picked up today. He's helping me set up." Shiloh pushed her hair back. "I was hiding out in the back, you know sleep anywhere you can when yiur parents kick you out." She said with a smirk. Miguel shook his head at her. He could already tell she would be interesting to have around. The man looked at Johnny then Shiloh. "I don't need to know all that. My job is just to make sure it's up to code." Johnny was flipping through the three page list. "I need to do this before I open?"
"No you need to do all that to get the certification to open." He said, heading out. He looked at the cobra kai logo. "Huh, cool rattlesnake." Johnny glanced over at him. "It's a cobra." The man nods. "Of course, duh. I'm such a idiot. Cobra kay." He said before walking out. Johnny shakes his head in disbelief and disappointment.

Shiloh looked over at Miguel with a deadpan facial expression. "Welcome to Rattlesnake Kia." She said in plain but formal tone, making Miguel laugh and shake his head. The smallest smile curled her lips, maybe he wasn't so bad. She missed her pack but it was time for her to expand the group some. She was the new Alpha of die pack so she didn't have to go through Charlie anymore to get permission. She snarled just thinking about Charlie.

Miguel was working on cleaning the mats when Johnny walked in with bags in each hand. Shiloh was cleaning the windows, deciding to help so Miguel didn't have to follow everything himself.  "Looking good." Johnny told them. "Make sure you get both sides and when you're done with that you can work on these exposed wires. It's gonna be a lot of work." He walked into the back room/ office. "Yeah but what does any of this have to die with karate, Sensei?" Miguel asked, looking over. Johnny walked out with a Cools Banquet.  Shiloh looked over at him. "Yeah, aren't there child labor laws?" She joked. "Don't question my methods. " He said, opening his beer. "Just be glad you're not a sumo wrestler. Those guys have to wipe their Sensei's asses." He flicked the cap to the side.  It landed by trophies catching Miguel's attention. "I see you were a karate champion sensie." He said. "You don't have to call me Sensei every time." Johnny said. "Sorry Sensei." Miguel said then shook his head as Shiloh laughed softly. "Sorry, um, I'm sorry." Johnny then nods. "I won a couple All Valley tournaments. Didn't lose  a single point my junior year. "
"All right." Miguel said impressed. "What happened your senior year?"
"This isn't 20 questions, get back to scrubbing." Johnny said. Miguel nods when electronic music started playing from his phone. "What the hell is that?" Shiloh asked, nose wrinkled as she looked at Miguel. "Where's the garbage coming from?" Johnny was looking around. "That's me sorry." Miguel said, pulling his phone out the same time Johnny asked "Do you hear that?"

"Hey." Miguel said, answering his phone. "Yeah debate club is running late. Uh okay, yeah. Love you too." He hung up and put his phone in his pocket. Johnny looked at him. "Don't tell me you have a girlfriend." Miguel looked at him. "That was my mom actually. I told her I joined the debate club." He chuckled slightly. "Because she doesn't approve of violence." Shiloh shook her head at him. Johnny looked at him.  "What about your dad? Is he okay with you getting your ass kicked up and down Reseda boulevard?" He asked. Miguel looked at him, "I never really knew my dad so.." He trailed off, looking away to the side. "Shiloh?" Jonny looked at her. "I wish i didn't know my parents. When I lived in new York I lived in abandoned houses. My patents are the ones that kicked my ass, so I need learned to handle it." . They stare at each other for a few moments before Johnny broke the silence. "Well quit standing there and get back to training." He pointed at the mat with his beer still in hand. "Yeah, right, sorry." Miguel knelt back down and started to clean.  "And change that ringtone. Get some Guns n' Roses or something." He started to walk back to the office. Miguel looked over his shoulder confused. "What's Guns n' Roses?" He asked. Johnny stopped and looked at him and pointed at him. "I'm going to pretend you didn't say that."

Shiloh looked over at Miguel. "Guns N Roses are a rock band from the 80s. They are really good." She said. "Raphael loved them." She smiled faintly. "Who's Raphael?" Miguel asked turning to face her. "He was part of my pack, beta second in command." She explained. He nods. "Shiloh about your patents-" She turned sharp eyes on him. "Drop it." She hissed, she hated talking about them. Miguel looked down. "Right..I'm sorry."

It was the first day of school and lunch time was rolling around. Miguel stood in the lunch line, after he got his food he looked around the cafeteria. He approached a table that only had two boys sitting at it. One had dark brown hair and the other light brown edging dirty blonde. The latter one looked up as he approched. "Is it cool if I sit here?" Miguel asked. The dark haired one looked up. "Ooh, sorry, this table is really blowing up right now but I could put you on the waiting list. It will problem be next semester at the earliest." He said, the other looked down, a small smile spreading on his lips as he tried not to laugh. Miguel just looked at him. "Okay." He went to walk away. "Im kidding. Sit." He said. Miguel sat down. "Miguel." He introduced himself "Demetri. And this is Eli." The dark haired one said. Miguel nods to Eli who didn't reply. "He's a man of few words." Demetri said, poking at his food. Eli looked down at the table.

Shiloh got her food and looked around, that's when she saw Miguel. She walked over and sat down by him. "Miguel." She greeted, before looking up and seeing the other two boys gawking at her. "What?!" She snapped, making them looking down. "We're not used to girls sitting with us." Dimitri said with a shrug. "Well then stop looking like trout and deal with it. I'll be sitting with Miguel." Shiloh said in a plain voice. Eli was looking at her, well mainly the scars on her face. Shiloh turned her dark eyes to him. "They are from fights, mostly knives." She told him simply. Miguel looked at her. "You got cut with knives?!" He was shocked by that. "Knives, bottles, chains, I've been shot. Welcome to new York," She shrugged. "Wow.." Eli whispered softly.

Yasmine and Sam where walking past their table. Demetri and Miguel looking up as they passed by. "Dude, don't torture yourself, those are the rich girls." Demetri told him. Shiloh glanced over before shrugging, she east impressed with the type of girl where it matters whether you have money or not." Do you ever talk to them or...?" Miguel asked. Demetri nods. "Oh yeah all the time. We hang out after school. Make out, Eli here is the homecoming king, gets laid more then anyone, ain't that right?" Eli was just smiling as he looked over at Miguel. "Talk to them, you do realize what table your sitting at right?" Demetri said. "Oh shit, Yasmine is looking over here. Probably just making fun of me." Eli said, looking down at the table. "I'm sure she's not making fun of you. Just because their hot doesn't mean their mean." Miguel said. Shiloh sent a glare over at them, making Yasmine turn away.

"I don't care if Yasmine is the meanest girl in school. I'd kill you both just to have her spit in my face." Demetri said, eyes on the other table. Shiloh rolled her eyes, she would never understand guys her age. She's dated one guy in her life, that was Charlie and he was twenty-two. "If you don't make a move you'll never have a shot with her," Miguel said. Demetri looked over at Miguel. "That is true but I also won't have to suffer a humiliating rejection. I'm at peace with my depression. The last thing I need to be is suicidal." He took a bit of his food. Miguel stood up. "What are you doing?" Shiloh asked, looking up at him. Miguel never took his eyes off the girls table. "Striking first." He started walking over. "I hope we don't get hit with the shrapnel." He poked at his food. Kyler and his friends beat Miguel to the table and laughed at him. Shiloh's eyes narrowed when she saw Kyler, she wanted nothing more then to go over and beat the shit out of him. Miguel sighed and walked back, sitting down. "So How'd it go?" Demetri asked

"You can't Strike if you don't know how to strike." Johnny said. "The cobra Strike consists of two things, the lunged which requires the whole body and the bite which is everything that happens after you make contact. All right?" He explained as he punched the dummy. Shiloh was leaning on the wall, watching. She already knew how to punch. "But you don't stop here when your fist hits the bone, you want to punch through like the guy you really want to punch is standing behind this asshole. All right?" He looked over at Miguel. The phone rang. Miguel was punching the dummy but not doing a very good job. "That's pathetic." Shiloh hummed simply. Johnny walked back over, correcting him. "Picture your enemy." Johnny told him. "Got a picture in your mind?" Miguel nods this time when he punched he hit way harder, anger on his face. Shiloh smiled slowly, watching him. She didn't care who he was picturing, he was doing amazing.

The day was drawing to a end and Miguel was cleaning the windows, "Any specific way you want me to clean the windows?" He asked. Johnny shook his head. "No, I don't give a shit. Actually go clean the toilet and we'll call it and night." Miguel sighed. "Okay." Shiloh looked at him. "I'll finish the windows so you don't have to do that later." He nods, giving her a smile. The bell jingled and Johnny walked out of the office, "Welcome to Cobra kia." He said before he saw Daniel. "Some things never change." Daniel said looking around. Shiloh turned around to look at the man, her eyes narrowed. "Yeah and what's that supposed to mean?" He asked. Daniel looked at him. "That you beat you some teenagers in that parking lot." He pointed his thumb over his shoulder. "Oh that. I didn't beat up teenagers. I kicked the shit out of a couple assholes who deserved it." He moved forward. Shiloh's lips curled into a smirk at that. Daniel laughed dryly. "Wow, Johnny Lawrence calling someone else a asshole that's rich man."
"Yeah what's that supposed to mean?" Johnny's eyes were narrowed. "Don't talk to Mr. Lawrence like that!" She snapped in a warning voice. "I'm  not here to rehash the past. Just stay away from my daughters friends." Daniel glanced over at the young girl. "You shouldn't be here, you don't know this man like I do." He told her. Shiloh shrugged. "So far he's been there for me more then my parents." She said in a plain voice.

The two argued some more before Miguel walked out. "Anything else you want me to do Sensei?" He asked. Daniel looked at them in disbelief. "Sensei? Really? Listen kid I don't know what he told you but don't listen or you'll become just like him. You and me...this...we aren't done." Daniel said, he started to walk out. "I'm right here man." Johnny called, arms spread to his side. Shiloh moved to stand behind Johnny, her eyes narrowed and her face hard. Daniel looked over at him then Shiloh and huffed a laugh before walking out.  "Sorry if I interrupted anything Sensei. Should I do 20 push-ups on my knuckles? " Miguel asked. " Yeah like you could." Johnny said with a chuckle. The headlights of Daniel's car illuminated his face. Johnny gave a closed lip smile. Shiloh watched the man leave, before she finally relaxed
