A complicated meeting
Miguel's mom, Carmen walked over to him with a bag of ice and a glass of orange juice. "Here put this on your ribs." She told him in a sweet voice. He took it from her. "Thanks." He shifted on the couch and put the ice against the sore area. "Miggy why don't you tell me who did this. The school can protect you." She said softly. Miguel shook his head. "It will only make it worse." He told his mom. Carmen looked at him. "Worse then this?" Her voice held disbelief. Miguel nods some. "Yes. If only I had more lessons-" He started to say but was cut off. "No." She said firmly, Miguel leaned his head back. "It's not Sensei Lawrence's fault. I just wasn't ready." He tried to reason. "No. No more karate." Miguel's grandma walked over. The two women had a slightly intense discussion. Miguel looking between the two. His grandma held her arms up like she was blocking and punching. The mom replied in Spanish. "No he is not. You don't even know him." Miguel said defensively. "I know he's a loser." She told her son. Miguel sat up, a upset look on his face. "He is not a loser. If you knew him you'd see he's a good man." He then sat back. "Can you check on Shiloh?" He asked his mom. Carmen smiled and nodded.
Carmen walked over to where the Mincsars lived, knocking on the door gently. She could hear people bickering as soon one walked over. A woman opened up the door, she had ratty black hair that looked unkept. Her brown eyes glazed over and cold. The woman could have looked just like Shiloh if it wasn't for that. Carmen had to regain the smile she didn't notice had vanished upon seeing her. "Hello, I was wondering how is Shiloh?" She asked in a soft tone. "Who the hell is asking?" Mrs. Mincsar asked. "Oh I'm Carmen, Carmen Diaz. I'm your neighbor and my son is friends with your daughter and he wanted me to check up on here because of the fight."
"What fight?" The other woman asked, her eyebrow raising in a questioning manner. "At the school...she didn't tell you? Surely you saw her injuries." Carmen knew Shiloh had to be hurt. "The bitch hasn't been home." Mrs. Mincsar said. Carmen's face fell. "O-oh, well I guess I'll see you later." She started to hurry away. "If you see her, tell her she has until tonight to get her ass home!" The one called after her.
Carmen got inside as quick as possible, Miguel sitting up more. "They said she's not home...Miggy I need you to be honest with me, okay?" She asked as she sat down on the couch beside her. Miguel nods, a curious look on his face. "Yeah, of course." He agreed. She sighed softly. "Shiloh.,is she safe...at home I mean?" She asked as gentle as possible. Miguel frowned. "I don't think so..she won't tell me anything though. She's a fend for yourself kind of girl." He said with a frown.
Shiloh woke up with a pounding headache, she let out a small whimper as she grabbed her head in her hands. She sat up, blinking before fear gripped her. She didn't recognize where she was. That's when she heard movement, her head snapping in that direction. She relaxed seeing Johnny, this must be his couch. "What am I doing here?" She asked, rubbing her head. Johnny looked over. "Good you're awake. You fell asleep in my car." He said walking over with a glass of water and some ibuprofen. "You're parents didn't open the door so I brought you here." She took the medicine before smiling at him. "Thanks." She told him. She had a fair sized cut on her head from it being split open, a bruise forming around it. Her lip was busted and she had a bruise on her jaw. "Get ready, you have school." He told her. She shook her head. "Not going. If i see Kyler I'll kill him and I've been there one day. I might go late but not right now." She said defiantly. Johnny sighed as he looked over at her. "Fine." He said with a shrug. "But you got to go. I have a problem to handle."
Johnny and Shiloh walked out of his apartment, Miguel was sitting on the ledge in front of it. "Hey Sensei....and Shiloh, you don't look too good." He said standing up and starting to walk with the man and girl. Shiloh rolled her eyes some with a smirk. "You aren't no looker right now either." Miguel couldn't help but smile at that. "My mom said I can't train with you anymore but I had a idea that if we meet at the dojo before-" Johnny cut him off, turning to face him. "You don't get it. There is no dojo. We're closing it up, it's over." Miguel looked hurt by that. "What about me?....I need you." He asked in a soft and low voice. Johnny frowned. "Sorry kid. I gotta go." Johnny turned away and walked to his car. Shiloh frowned at Miguel. "Everything will be okay." She reassured him as she climbed onto her motorcycle. "And where are you going?" He asked her. "Following Mr. Lawrence, he's pissed and I want to know why." She said with a grin before starting the bike and following Johnny.
She parked by Johnny at a apartment complex. "What the hell are you doing here?" He asked the girl as she got off the bike. "You said you had a problem, two are better then one plus I'm bored and you seemed mad." She said in a simple tone. He sighed some. "Whatever kid, just stay out of the way." He told her. "Sure thing." Shiloh said but she knew as well as he did that was a lie. The two walked up to the apartment. Johnny knocking on the door, waiting for someone to open it. "I got this." Shiloh told him, she picked up many things in New York. He moved aside as she kicked the door by the lock, knocking it open. It hit the wall hard.
Johnny burst into the apartment, Robby and two of his friends in the room. "Don't you knock?" Robby asked angrily. "I have been knocking for five minutes but you can't hear me over that trash playing on your boom box." Johnny's voice was anger. "What the hell is a boom box?" The one with a mustache asked. "What the hell is on your face?" Johnny said back, Cruz reached up and touched his mustache, staring at the man. Shiloh followed in, closing the door behind her. Johnny turned his attention back to Robby. "I got a call from your principal. I heard about our trip to Colorado." Robby just looked at him, only anger and hate on his face. "Well I had no idea what real father son trip looked like so I had to use my imagination. If it makes you feel better next time you can pick where we don't go." The three boys sat back down. Shiloh leaned against the wall that lead to the open room. "Ouch." She said in slight amusement, the three boys looking over to her. "Damn girl, what happened to you?" Trey voiced what they were thinking. She looked over at him. "A fight, nothing major." She replied. Cruz laughed some. "Looks like you majorly got your ass kicked." She pushed herself off the wall. "I can show you what getting your ass kicked feels like." She snarled.
Johnny took a few steps towards him, putting his arm up to block Shiloh from getting to them. "This isn't about us. It's about the fact that you should be in school instead of hanging around these jack holes." Trey looked over at Johnny, pulling his eyes from Shiloh. "Screw you man." Johnny wasn't putting up with anything. "Screw you." He fired back. "No more like fuck off." Shiloh hissed at the boy making him look away after that. "Is your mother around?" Johnny asked his son. "Of course she's not it three o'clock it's gotta be happy hour somewhere." Robby quickly got to his feet when Johnny said that and bowed up at him. "Don't. Don't talk about my mother that way." His voice held a warning. Shiloh moved forward, pushing against Johnny's arm. Johnny looked back at her. "Calm down Shiloh." He said under his breath. "Look kid. School can be a drag but you have your whole future ahead of you." He told Robby, glancing at Shiloh to show the point was to her as well. "Ooh so I can grew up and have my own strip mall karate dojo?" Robby asked, voice laced with sarcasm. His friends snickered at that. "Listen here you little fucker. You're dad is not a bad man so shut the hell up with your attitude!" Robby couldn't help but chuckle. "You're one to talk about attitudes." He said looking down at her with a half smile. She was about to fire back when Johnny cut in, making Robby loose his smile.
"We're not talking about me here. You can still make something of yourself." Johnny said. "Like you're old buddy Daniel Larusso? It must feel nice being a winner." Robby showed how much he disliked the man before him. Johnny clenched his jaw before talking again. "Go to school don't go to school I don't care." He said. "See that's right you don't care, that's why it took you so long." Johnny gave him a odd look. "The school just called me this morning."
"It took you sixteen years," Robby said, "And I'm not going to school, I'm done. My mom's okay with it so you can go home." He was very ridged around Johnny, he hasn't relaxed once. The father and son had a stare down before Johnny left and Robby slammed the door behind him.
Robby looked back and saw Shiloh. "What are you still doing here?" He asked bitterly. "You slammed the door before I could get out first of all." She said in a plain tone. He took her in, dark red hair that was black, the roots growing out. She had dark brown eyes. "Why did you get into a fight?" He asked as he looked at her injuries. Shiloh walked towards the door, looking over her shoulder with a small smile. "Defending my friends plus ever since I moved here I'm wanted to beat the shit out of that guy." Trey stood up, walking over. "How long have you been here?" He asked her. "About three days." She said as she left.
The three boys sat there. "She was something." Cruz said, he was clear in his dislike for the sarcastic girl. Robby chuckled. "She's tough and kinda pretty." He said back. Trey looked at him. "Dude, she was hot but she'd destroy you." Robby looked at him. "And who hasn't tried in my life?" He chuckled softly. He couldn't help it wonder what connection she had with his dad.
Shiloh got down to he bike, Johnny looking at her. "What took you so long?" He asked her. "Talking to the charming boys, what's your son's name?" She asked him curiously as she moved to sit on her bike. "Robby." He replied with a even curiouser tone. "Robby, that's a nice name." She said as she started her bike and headed to the last period of school.
Shiloh snuck in, keeping quite. She went to the library and sat down with Eli, Miguel and Dimitri. They looked over at her a bit shocked. "Where gave you been?" Dimitri demanded of the girl. "Places, go back to talking." She hummed. "Whatever it was that you were saying before I got here." She said leaning back. Dimitri turned back to Miguel, asking what he wanted to before she showed up. "So that's it?" Demetri asked. "No more karate?" Miguel was staring at his book and shrugged his shoulders. "I guess." He grumbled. Demetri nods. "It's probably for the best. You were starting to boost your confidence." Miguel looked up at him, confusion on his face. "Isn't that a good thing?" He asked as Eli looked up from his work as well. "No. What has confidence ever gotten anyone except for a black eye and their backpack throwing in the trash?" Shiloh scowled at Dimitri, she was starting to have a strong dislike for the boy and she had the feeling that it was mutual. Miguel slightly shook his head and looked down. "Well..I thought it was pretty cool how you stood up to Kyler." Eli said in his soft voice. "Are you kidding me?!" Demetri looked at the boy. "What's the best super power anyone could ever have?" Miguel seemed certain of his answer. "Super strength." Shiloh looked at him. "Being invincible, no one could hurt you ever again." She said glancing down. Miguel casted her a worried glance. Demetri don't even look at them. "Wrong it's invisibility. A decent second would be super speed to run away fast." Kyler and Brucks walked over. Kyler putting his hand on Eli's shoulder. "Run away from who?" He asked. The boys loved their heads some. "We were just leaving." Miguel said as they stood up and tried to get away quickly. "You asshat." Shiloh snapped as she got up at a normal pace.
Kyler caught Eli by the back of his neck and turned him around to where he was facing him. "Where are you going? I guess the little girl wants round two." The two other boys stopped and looked back as Kyler grabbed Eli's face. "Ahh look at this freak. What girl would ever kiss this shit?" He sneered as Brucks laughed. "Shut up Kyler! He's twice the man you will ever be!" Shiloh barked in anger. Kyler let go of Eli and rushed her, giving her no time to react. He pinned her to the wall behind her, his body pressed against hers. "Why don't I show you what a real man is like." He said in a low voice, his lips going to her neck as she struggled. Her heart racing in fear, all sense left her body as she focused on getting free without crying in fear. "Leave her alone Kyler." Miguel said. Kyler turned on the boy, letting go of Shiloh, who scurried fast to Eli and Dimitri's side. Eli noticed how bad she was trembling. He looked confused and concerned, he's seen her fight Kyler with no fear, what was so different. He moved over to her, wrapping his arms around her. She jumped at first but looked at him and relaxed a bit into his hold. "What you didn't have enough Rhea?" He shoved the boy, almost to the ground. "Get out of here." Brucks pushed Eli which made him stumble as he was still hugging Shiloh.
"Shiloh are you okay?" Miguel asked as Shiloh got herself out of Eli's hold and walked quickly. "I'm fine." She muttered. "Are you su-" She turned around. "I said I'm fine!" She snapped making the three boys stop as she hurried away.
School was over and they were all filing out. A car horn was heard a few times then a female voice. "Miggy! Miggy!" Carmen called. "What's Miggy?" Shiloh asked, putting up a facade. "Me." Miguel sighed and went to the car and got in. Shiloh chuckled softly at that as she headed to the park, not wanting to go home just yet. She fell asleep in the park and slept till around midnight, getting home when no one else was awake.
The next day Johnny was boxing stuff up at the dojo. The bell above the door chimed. He walked out and saw Miguel and Shiloh . "My mom says I can train again." The boy said. Johnny looked shocked. "She did?" Miguel nods, "If we still have the dojo." The younger boy threw in. Johnny nods some. "We do for now. But what I need to know is if your ready to take your training to the next level?" Miguel smiled broadly and nods. "Yes Sensei." Johnny started to walk in a circle around the two. "Shy?" Johnny asked. "Yes Sensei." She said dipping her head tou him, shocked by the nickname. "You got your ass kicked because you didn't have any defense. So I'm going to teach you the best defense you could know which is." He punched at Miguel but didn't hit him. Miguel didn't flinch. "More offense." The two smiled some. Shiloh had her arms wrapped around herself. She swore that nothing would ever happen like what happened yesterday in the library.
