After about a week, the neighborhood in our house didn't seem so bad. Actually, I got used to it. It was good since now at least I have someone to talk to and I wasn't scared to wander around in the house when mom was away. The fairies picked up a habit to clean my room every morning. Twinkly loved to sit on my shoulder. She just sits there so quietly that I hardly notice when I do my homework.
Some days, if Grandpa Ginger had the mood, he would tell a nice long story. On those days, everyone gathers in the basement and they didn't mind to have me.
Trevelyan still followed me around and sometimes he'd pop out of nowhere in school.
And mom, she hardly noticed anything strange going on in our house. Well, she should be home to notice anything. She was busy because of some big case. Sometimes, her job annoys me but I try to keep calm in front of her. I wonder where my Seer thing came from. I guess my father was a Seer and I wondered where he is. I always used to imagine that my dad was some sort of a British secret agent that had to leave our family to keep us safe and would someday come back to live with us when his missions are over. One day I mentioned this to mom when I was little, she didn't say a word about it, not even a reply. That's when I understood that my dad was not that sort of a person who would care much about his family.
And Andrew, I have no idea why but that kid just hated to come to school. Maybe he was busy with his 'princely' work with Salzar. Even if he does come to school occasionally, he never bothered to speak to me. I didn't like to speak to him but I needed answers. But I dreaded meeting him nevertheless.
It still feels like as if I am in a crazy endless dream that has been going on until now. I really felt like spilling everything to Isabelle. I thought long about it but wondered if it was illegal or not.
'Something is sure to happen today. Amethyst is doing homework in school!' said Isabelle one day during the interval.
With all of this going on, I even forgot what day it is and I had a periodic table to memorize.
'Honestly Amy. Is everything alright at home?'
I wish I could yell and scream "NO!"
The interval bell rang and I hastily picked up all of my books to my locker. Unexpectedly, there was Salzar in the corridor.
'His Highness requests your help,' said Salzar.
I was trying my best to ignore him. But it didn't work, whenever he got close, the dragon crept me out, is if he was searching deep inside my soul or something.
I gave a scowl, dumped my books in and banged the locker shut.
'What kind of help?'
'Follow me.'
'I have school and I have bi_'
But the dragon's stare was enough to get me going. Salzar led me to the library. Fortunately, the librarian wasn't there. Andrew must have really needed to hide since I had to squeeze into the very end of the library and the reason was very clear when I saw him.
He was a royal mess.
His messy hair was even messier, his jacket and denim were torn, like he was in the middle of a piranha attack.
He wore a very annoyed and serious look on his face and I think he had a samurai sword strapped behind him.
'You look like you have been to war,' I said.
'You think!' he snapped. He then calmed down. 'Shift to the invisible side.'
'What?'
'I said, shift to the invisible side.'
'I'm not shifting anywhere till I know what's going on.'
Salzar just flew right through me and faded.
Andrew backed away from me. 'Will yourself there and hurry.'
Then he disappeared, or so somewhat sank into the book shelf behind him.
I was alone. Well, what else can I do, the kid needs help and I think it was something serious.
So I just thought of an unseen invisible land. It didn't work. So I thought of feeling the net. I closed my eyed and walked forward. Then I bumped to something very light. I opened my eyes and found myself staring in front of something like thin polythene curtain. I could see a tree from behind it. I tried to touch it but my hand simply went right through, like it would through water.
'This must be the wall,' I told myself and I walked through.
In the other side, Andrew was waiting.
'You should have hurried,' he mumbled with his arms crossed.
I felt like yelling. 'I could if you told me what is going on.' But I held it back before I got threatened by Salzar for mistreating "his highness."
But more than furious, I was bewildered cause I stepped right into fairyland.
I mean it and I never thought that Flinton could be so pretty.
There was a great oak tree in front of me. It must have been centuries old. Around us was a grassy plane and at the distance a field of purple flowers tinted the land. They must be lavender but I doubted that. I kept on staring at the tree because it somehow looked so familiar.
'Isn't that the oak tree behind the school?'
Andrew nodded. 'It's a Relic.'
'Relic?'
'Something common to both worlds...'
Now that we were in fairy land, Salzar was completely solid. The dragon landed on the ground. Andrew got on to his back, right behind his head. Just then, a flock of something flew toward us.
'Fairy dragons,' said Andrew. 'Quick! Get on!'
I was staring at the swarm of tiny creatures that were about a few yards away.
'Amethyst!'
I quickly hauled myself on top of the dragon, right behind Andrew and Salzar took off. I almost fell over. I quickly grabbed onto Salzars's silver mane and locked my feet tightly besides his scaly neck. Salzar squired through the air like a snake.
From behind us, the fairy dragons were still following.
'Curse those fairies', mumbled Andrew. 'I hate fairies.'
'They are not too bad,' I said, looking behind.
'Then call then off!' Andrew yelled. 'Salzar! Faster!'
But I felt that the fairy dragons or whatever it is didn't, you know, want to piranha us out in the sky. The flock was gaining on us. Then a few, about five were flying along besides us. One griped tightly around my arm. I almost yelled but those beady eyes that stared back at me didn't make me want to yell. They almost looked innocent. It slowly climbed to my shoulder. It was small, maybe seven inches tall and very colorful with colors ranging from bright deep purple to gold. The one on my shoulder was glittery purple with spots of blue here and there. Its wings looked like torn butterfly wings. Another one sat on my lap gripping it hard, I have to admit those talons sure were sharp.
Andrew swapped one away but to his annoyance it was curled around his finger.
'AW!'
Andrew mumbled something under his breath and started to shake his arm like wild, hoping the thing would fall off or something. Then, finally realizing that it was fruitless, he calmed down.
'Can I help?'
'What can you _' but he didn't finish. He just stared at me like there was a halo around me. It took me a while to notice that there were about ten fairy dragons leached onto me. The fairy dragon wrapped around Andrew' finger flew off and rested on my head.
'Um..... help?'
'Under normal circumstances they usually rip people to shreds,' said Andrew.
I felt the blood drain from my face.
Okay.
I was surrounded by them.
One was gripping on to wrist. It was gold. It simply sat there staring up at me. I brought it up to my face and said, 'Would you mind if you can leave?'
Andrew snorted. 'Like that would work.'
It must have been an unlucky day for the poor boy, since the all the fairy dragons simply detached from me and flew away. Salzar, who was not risking any more chances, flew away as fast as he could.
'Oh well,' said Andrew, giving me a strange look and then looking back at the flock of the fairy dragons behind us, 'At least now out plan will work.'
'She'll cause an uproar,' said Salzar.
I raised an eyebrow. How can I cause an uproar?
For some reason, I had a bad feeling that the help Andrew wanted was with fairies. The whole time I rode on a flying mythical dragon, I was staring down. It was the day that I actually realized that I was not sacred of heights. Everything under me was a blur. I have never ridden in an airplane before but I could guess that Salzar was faster than an airplane. I saw fields of green, mountain tops, lakes, and then finally the Mediterranean Sea. Along the way, I caught a glimpse of gold that leaped through a field, a white stag like creature in the middle of a lake island, skyscraping red white polka dotted mushrooms and a few villages. I wondered what kind of people lived in those villages. Every oddity that I passed by would takes a few more pages to describe, I will not bore you with such detail.
As we passed over the Mediterranean sea, I saw two sea serpents wrestling against each other with their bodies coiled around and splashing waves and white foam everywhere.
'Territorial disputes,' said Salzar.
Along the way, I had enough time to examine Andrew's samurai sword. I thought it might be a fake, but it seemed like the real thing. Did he actually know how to use it?
'Are we there yet?' I said as I caught sight of land.
'It's near,' said Andrew.
'Where are we heading anyway?'
'Egypt,' he said.
I had a bad feeling it might be Egypt.
Once we passed over land, the ground below became a desert with sand dunes stretching far and wide like an ocean itself. There was a giant snake like things which leaped out of the sand. In the far distance, I saw the peaks of three pyramids, each one bigger than the last. Those pyramids looked pretty familiar.
'Are those the pyramids of Giza?'
'It's a Relic,' said Andrew.
Then the desert ended and it was followed by the largest city I had ever seen in my entire life.
'Welcome to Sightless, my lady,' said Salzar.
