At first, I thought that the city was under attack and panicked.

Wooosh.... CRASH!!!

BOOOM!!!!

I ran out of the throne room into the palace gardens and looked up at the tower which was supposed to be part of an observatory. It was completely wretched. The sound of destruction rang throughout the air. One of the nymphs, upon seeing me ran towards me with teary eyes.

'This way, your highness!'

I ran after her and came to a balcony which overlooked the city.

What I saw was utterly ridiculous that it made me want to murder someone.

There was a falcon headed man and a man with a head of... of... an aardvark? I don't know, I just guessed me must have been Seth. They were both standing in the middle of the sky with their staff in hand and blasting everything in sight. Clouds, dust and swirls of fire dances around them and occasionally, a ball of fire or a sand cannon would fall somewhere in the middle of Sightless. The more each of them dodged each other attacks, the more everything else got destroyed, so I just hoped that they will destroy each other.

BOOM!

Okay, I have to admit, this was going nowhere and more I do nothing, the more I will feel like killing someone or anyone around me and I don't want to fall to that. Just on time, Andrew appeared on Salzar and with his hair all messed up and with an expression scarier than the one I imagined I had.

'Hop on,' he growled. His voice reverberated with the sound of a dozen roaring dragons. I got on top of the parapet and jumped onto Salzar's back which was something I had gotten used to during these past few months.

'Wait till I get my hands on them,' I gritted under my teeth, 'I had to miss an important physics practical for this!'

Salzar flicked his tail and dived towards the two Egyptian deities.

'Give it back!'

'I didn't take it you block-head!'

Swish! Boom!

I felt like slapping my own face. They are fighting over something Seth stole from Horus! Salzar flew closer to the two when this lump that was growing inside my throat exploded.

'ENOUGH!'

Even I was surprised when Horus and Seth froze midair and turned to stare at me. I could hear on own voice echo across the city.

'Wow,' mumbled Andrew. 'I could barely do that.'

For a moment, there was a deep silence till Horus and Seth snapped out of the daze they were in and started to fight again.

Then I pretty much yelled, 'STOP IT YOU IMMATURE FOOLS!' in Ancient Egyptian. This got them to listen.

But then Horus whined like a five year old girl. 'But he stole my love!'

Okay, five year old don't say that though. So I guess this is a girlfriend problem.

'Look, Horus. A girlfriend is not something that you destroy your city over,' I said with a sigh.

'I didn't steal any of his girlfriends,' snapped Seth. 'He doesn't even have one!'

Horus pointed a wobbly finger at Seth. 'You stole Nakia from me! Now give her back you thief.'

'Why would I steal a stupid amulet with your symbol in the first place,' said Seth. 'And I congratulate the person who did... truly... but it wasn't me!'

Now they were fighting over some jewelry?

I'm starting to get a splitting headache now.

'Liar,' hissed Horus.

I held my hand up. 'Wait a second... Horus, if someone stole something you should have consulted the city guard on the matter, not pick up a fight with someone who you suspected.'

'That person has motive and the guts to do so!'

I turned to Seth. The Aardvark headed man shrugged. 'Oh, well...' he said.

'Take us to the crime scene,' said Andrew. 'After you fix this place up...'

Fortunately, these idiots had some sort of ability to fix things. After that, Horus took up to the crime scene which was in his own bedroom. It was exquisite like his house. The floor was golden, the walls were golden and the bed was golden. There were strange sculptures all over the house and his room was of the size of a miniature ballroom. Along the walls, there were several artifacts, posters inside golden frames and finally, the crime scene; a broken glass covered jewelry stand with laser sensors around it.

And it was situated right next to his bed.

Horus sniffed. 'How dare such a cold blooded criminal steal the only memento of my dear sweet Nakia.'

I leaned closer to Seth. 'Who's Nakia?'

Seth sighed. 'Nakia was an enchantress from nine hundred years ago. She was... Horus's biggest crush... But she went crazy and we had to subdue her and eventually trapped her essence in an amulet of the Eye of Horus, and given to this idiot to keep it safe.'

I coked my head. 'Is that even possible?'

He shrugged. 'That is what they say. And that is what that idiot believes.'

'So she was a queen?'

'A princess,' said Andrew. 'The Bird Enchantress.'

We didn't find the amulet or the culprit, but Seth seemed to be innocent this time. I went back to school with an unsolved case that promised to resolve. By the time I went back to school, the physics period was already over. I rushed to the classroom for my biology class.

'Amy,' said Isa. 'Where were you?'

'Intestinal problems,' I said.

She stared at me for a while before nodding. Good thing stuff like that always happened to me in the past. But then again, she was giving her "What-are-you-up-to" look.

Luckily, the biology teacher came in before things were starting to get awkward. But I didn't expect Trevelyan to appear next to me again with bad news.

'What is it this time?'

'Seth and Horus are arguing again. Not fighting, but they are yelling at each other in the palace.'

I sighed. 'Leave it be. They will cool down eventually.'

Trevelyan bowed and left.

I didn't notice that the girl next to be was staring at me as I talked to supposedly nothing at all.

'Amethyst!'

I jerked. Mr. Jonathan lowered his glasses. 'What was I telling to you about gymnosperms?'

'Um... they don't have flowers?'

'No. You are not listening, Miss Stone. I said that two phyla belonged to gymnosperms.'

Yup, things like these always happen to me lately.

Then I went back during the interval and yelled some more at Horus and came back to school. After school, I went back again hoping to get home soon. But soon word spread out that the queen was available and I was forced to stay. I spend my evening solving odd cases that lawyers could not solve. Like how a pixie for her kid accidently turned into a porridge pot and about how a prankster witch who pretends to be a herbalist keeps on selling potions that give you warts and turn your face green.

My greatest service is to listen. They get satisfied by that. But eventually Andrew and I will have to solve it anyway.

My days were spent like that. Some days I would be in the council meeting where I would simply watch and listen to them and yell them to be quiet when things got off hand. For this, I had to cut school. My grades dropped even worse and Isa was staring to be suspicious of me. I found studying with such pressure so unnerving and exhausting that I found myself always in Sightless.

It was like a little escape for me.

Until that day...

It was just another bad day for me. I was tired from school and eventually ended up running after a runaway Pegasus since some idiot (in the name of Pursues) just had to leave its stables open. It really is a pain that he has no control the flying horse like most of the Hollywood movies point out. In fact, the creature hates him, like as if it was mad at Pursues for forcing it to get born.

Well, whatever. It didn't listen much to me anyway, which was kind of embarrassing.

When I came back home it was five in the evening. I could not appear in my room since it would appear too, you know, strange. So I shifted to appear behind a tree. I had the key to the house and couldn't open it from the inside anyway. When I was about to unlock the door, I noticed that the door was ajar.

Did a burglar break in? Or worse. Mom.

I slowly opened the door and clicked the knob back in place, not making a sound. I prayed it was a burglar. Anything is better than mom being home early. As I slowly walked towards the kitchen, I saw a few fairies peeking from behind the ornaments and clock. They never get this nervous, unless.

I gulped.

Sitting around the kitchen table was Mom and Isabelle.

Mom stood up with her hands on her hips. 'Amethyst, you have a lot of explaining to do.'

I would give anything to face a killer crocodile right now. I grinned. 'School,' I croaked.

'You left as soon as the bell rang,' said Isabelle.

'Isabelle told me that you are not around in school much and that you are probably not at home.'

'How can she know that,' I objected.

'You never answer the phone before seven,' said Isabelle, her arms crossed.

I can't believe it. She actually told on me. But I have to admit, she was doing this for my sake with a bit of a misunderstanding.

'I always take a nap after school,' I sighed. My lying skills improved over the months you know. I can't believe I'm lying to my mom.

'What about today?' said Isabelle.

'I went to pick up some books for Andrew's book club.'

Her face faltered. 'But you are never in school you know.'

I sighed. 'I'm just not next to you all the time, Isa. That doesn't mean I'm not in school.'

'What do you mean? We have all of our classes together.'

'Amethyst,' said mom. 'I think I need a good explanation for your behavior these days. You have been acting strangely and I think I have been giving you too much freedom.'

'Uh,' I said. 'What is this leading to?'

'Do you have a boyfriend?' mom asked.

My jaws dropped. I felt the world fall around me. 'What!'

'Amethyst do you?'

'NO!'

'Then why are you not around all the time,' said Isabelle. 'You've been acting all strange ever since Andrew showed up and you spend a lot of time with him.'

'Who's Andrew?' mom asked in a panic.

'Mom,' I said. 'He's a twelve year old. And Isa, I only hang out with him in the interval.'

'He's a bad influence to you!'

'He's just a kid Isabelle.'

'But_'

'Come on Isabelle. How many kids do you have trailing around you? Andrew is just a president of his book club, that's it. I'm just helping him out.'

'That does not explain why you leave school early.'

I froze. I wanted to argue that I don't leave school early but I've been doing that these few days because of the Council meetings. I just couldn't think of a good excuse in time and I simply cannot explain about Sightless. They will never believe me.

'Amethyst,' said Mom. 'I know that something is going on and whatever is going on must stop right now. Just look at your grades! They were the worst they ever were. I don't care whether if it is resigning from a book club of breaking up with a boyfriend.'

'Mom, I don't have a boyfriend. Who would want to date me anyway?'

'That's not the point Amethyst.'

'That is an important point mom.'

'I know girls of your age_'

'I'M NOT LIKE YOU MOM!' I screamed. I think the house shook. I could feel my voice reverberating. 'I'm not stupid like you when you were young and I'm not going to end up like you did with whoever my dad is. So just drop it!'

I regretted saying that after seeing mom's face. I think I struck a nerve.

Isabelle stared at me as if I killed someone. 'That doesn't explain things.'

'I have some things going on and I will take care of it,' I snapped.

'Well, you'd better finish it soon.'

'I wish I could,' I snapped. Then there was a silence. This hum that kept on ringing in my ear stopped.

'Ame_'

'Isa,' I growled. 'Not another world. I'm done with this ridiculous conversation.'

With that, I stormed upstairs. It was one thing worrying about me. But it was another thing to take things into her hands alone with some stupid idea.

'Amethyst,' said mom. 'Come down this instant.'

I slammed the door, took the Mystica book and shifted back to Sightless with a wow never come back home.

Forever.
