Chapter 1. Changes Needed
1 Month Later
This kingdom really needs some new laws. Everywhere I walk I see something that shouldn't be a problem, and yet it is. Poverty is spreading fast around the Kingdom! It gets worse every waking minute. The newly crowned King hasn't done anything about it just like the past Kings and Queens. It almost seems as if they don't even know these problems exist. Which would make sense considering the past Queens have always been of Noble status. They never let "filthy poor village people" become a candidate for the Queen Elections. If they just suddenly change the rules to where Village people can run, this Kingdom would be so much better.
While I was growing up my parents taught me what was right and wrong in the Kingdom, and ever since then I've wanted to become a candidate for the Queen Elections so hopefully I'd become the next Queen. Like I said, if only they allowed people of my status to become a candidate.
The Queen Elections are a problem in itself. Forcing women to go against each other and having them get chosen by the Villagers. It's very outdated. So if I ever become Queen I would demolish that tradition once and for all. I may sound a bit hypocritical saying that because I'd be in the Elections if that happened. It would be the only way I could demolish the tradition. There's also the King being forced to learn to love someone or force the king to just not marry the one he loves. Now that's sad. So again that's why I wanna get rid of the tradition. I mean why didn't the king just end the tradition? Was he forced to do it? Did he choose to do it because he can't find a bride himself?
With all that aside. I just want what's best for this Kingdom. The kingdom of Aresixis. Aresixis is one of the biggest and most famous of the kingdoms in the whole world. People would pay to live here. If only they knew what it was like.
"Help!" Suddenly I hear a shrill cry for help. I turn the corner to see a woman chasing after a small boy who looked filthy, carrying a purse. The purse is probably the woman's. I chase after the boy as well, trying to avoid bumping into people in the process. Soon I'm close enough to grab him. My hand lightly grazes his arm when someone yells.
"What are you doing, boy?!" I look up to see a tall, stern, elderly looking Woman. The purse's owner is behind her.
"I-I... I Just wanted some money... for food." The boy stutters out. I frown at this. Families and Orphans forced to steal in order to survive.
"I'm so sorry Ma'am, for my brother," I lie. I take the purse from the boy's hands and give it back to its owner.
"Thank you, Dear," she thanks me.
"You're Welcome, Ma'am," I say.
"You should watch over your brother so this doesn't happen again," the stern woman exclaims.
"I will," I lie again. Well it wasn't really a lie. I would watch over him along with the other kids and families. Whenever I have the chance that is.
The ladies walk away and I turn to the shocked boy. I grab a few dollar bills from my wallet and hand them to him.
"Here. Buy some food with this," I tell him.
"Thank you so much!" he beams, hugging me. I hug him back. Soon he runs away to a food stall.
"That was so nice of you!" I turn my head to see two similar looking girls with black hair. One with straight medium hair and the other with afro-style space buns. They have pretty brown eyes that compliment their caramel complexions.
"Oh, thanks! I was just doing what was right," I say back, turning my whole body to face them.
"Oh, I'm Rosalinde by the way, and this is my twin sister, Antionette!" The girl with the space buns, Rosalinde, introduces herself and her sister.
"Nice to meet you girls! I'm Adelina," I also introduce myself.
"It's nice to meet you as well," Antionette says.
Then, at that moment, we hear a trumpet near the village square. We all look at each other knowing that means there was an announcement from the King.
