Spanish Translations in the A/N at the end

Cara POV

It was the first day of April at like 1 AM and I was on a phone call with Keanu Carmichael and we were talking about sex. How this happened I'm not entirely sure, but here we are.

"Well personally I feel sex is something to be cherished, not thrown around to whoever. I'm waiting for the right person and I haven't found them yet."

"I agree." Keanu stopped mid-sentence to yawn. "Some girls don't even remember who their first was, and some guys don't know how many firsts they took. I'd rather just wait until marriage honestly."

I snorted, seriously?

"You're really going to wait until marriage?"

"Well... yeah?"

"No offense or anything but... why?"

"I dunno really, it's been implemented into me since I was young. My parents didn't say I absolutely had to wait, just that it would be better to. They just didn't want me getting a girl pregnant before my time."

We both laughed at that before I said, "I agree with waiting until you're ready but... come on, do you really think you could last that long? What if you meet the one like next year? You're not gonna marry her then. It's all about timing for me."

"I uh... I never really thought about it that way. I'll take that into account."

I tried to respond but my eyes were basically closed at that point.

"Cara?" 

"Hmm?"

"I really enjoyed talking to you." Keanu tried to stifle a yawn as well. 

I smiled before gathering up all the energy I had left. "Me too." And then we both fell asleep.

"Cara!! Wake up!"  

Ugh what time is it? Why's my mom waking me up so early?

"Cara. You can't stay asleep forever."

"No... it's too early mom. There's not even any school today."

"Babygirl it's 11 AM and I'm most definitely not your mom."

I shot up from my bed. 

"Where are you talking to me from? Did you break into my house?" I looked around my room frantically but there was no one there.

"Cara calm down." He laughed at my little freak out. "we forgot to hang up the call last night."

"We fell asleep... on call together?"

"Yep!"

"Oh thank god!" I slumped back down on my bed.

He laughed at me, again. How was he able to laugh so freely in the morning? Even if it was 11 AM.

I suddenly remembered something.

"Do you have anything to do today?" I said, proping my head up on my elbows and facing my phone even though he couldn't see me.

"Not really, all my  schoolwork is done, why?"

"Because project Lace is a go!"

"Project Lace?" I realized how stupid I must sound and how confused he must be so I elaborate. 

"Project Lucía and Ace. We have to start 'gently nudging them together'."

He groaned. "But forcefully pushing them together is so much more fun!"

"I know, I know, but out of respect for them we do it their way."

"Fine, fine."

"Okay! Be ready for my call and/or text by like 3."

"I'll be waiting."

I quickly hung up the phone and checked my battery percentage. 100%. It's a good thing I put my phone on the charger last night cause otherwise it would be dead. I unplugged it from the charger and went downstairs to have some breakfast with my parents.

After breakfast, dishwashing, and a multitude of other chores it was actually around the time that I told Keanu I would text him. But before I could text or call him I saw that Lucía had texted me. I had told her before I started that I was doing chores, so she shouldn't be wondering where I am.

A little birdy told me something interesting about you mi amiga -L

And what was that? -C

Well... Ace and I were talking last night and he brought you up. He said that you and Kean seemed to be getting along nicely. -L

Okay... -C 

I told him I knew you guys had been talking on snap and everything and that you both were so cute, but he told me it was more than that. -L 

Uh oh... please don't tell me Ace told her about last night. She's gonna be so mad if she found out that I didn't tell her. 

What did he tell you? -C

He said that he asked Kean to play games with him but Kean said he was busy. Do you know what he was busy with last night Cara? -L 

Ugh... here it comes... 

... -C

Did you or did you not fall asleep on facetime with Keanu Carmichael? -L 

Well... technically it wasn't facetime? -C

AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME? -L 

It was last night and I completely forgot until I woke up and he was still there on call and then I got breakfast. I was about to tell you I swear, I'm sorry, please don't be mad. -C 

I'm not mad. -L 

You're not?? -C 

I'm disappointed. -L 

Oh, come on! -C 

You can make it up to me though. -L 

How?... -C

You have to tell me everything that happened during that call y tienes que decirlo en español. -L 

But... I promised Keanu I would text him around now... -C 

This is probably the only time I will say this, but that isn't important right now. I'm calling you, get ready for the hardest español test ever. -L 

Ugh... -C

It was now 4:30. An hour and a half after I told Keanu I would text him. He kept on texting me, but Lucía refused to let me respond. She was oh-so kind enough though, to tell Ace to tell Keanu why I wasn't responding so I wouldn't "lose my chance with him". He didn't stop texting me even after that. 

I finally got off the call with Lucía, who didn't even let me speak a lick of a English by the way, and didn't have the energy to text a word to him, so I decided to call him.

"Hola Keanu, perdón por haber tardado tanto."

"Uhh... qué?"

"Sorry, still in spanish mode."

He chuckled. "I heard that Lucía was punishing you. What happened there?"

"I didn't tell her every detail of our call last night exactly as it was happening and therefore I disappointed her."

"Wow, harsh. Why did you have to tell her about our call though?"

"She has this fantasy that you're going to become the amor de mi vida and won't let it go. Don't worry, I didn't tell her about exactly what we talked about. I just told her we talked about losing virginity."

"Thanks but, amor de... huh? English please."

"Sorry sorry, I'm just really used to talking to Lucy. It means 'the love of my life.' She thinks we're going to fall in love or something."

"But aren't we supposed to be helping her and Ace. Are they secretly trying to do the same to us?"

I gasped. "I hope not. That would not end well for them."

He chuckled nervously, "Nope, not at all."

"Okay so how are we going to gently nudge?"

"I thought you had a plan?"

"Well... yeah, but... I wanted to hear what your suggestion was."

Silence.

"Okay, okay fine. I didn't have a set in stone plan. Just like bring something up in the group chat, I dunno."

We were quiet for a while, brainstorming ideas, until...

"Okay, what if we did virtual truth or dare, where the dares have to be something we can do on our phones. We could get them to do something that could make them closer."

"No way that'll never- actually... that's a really great plan Kean. I was expecting to have to think of everything myself. Good job."

"See, see, I can be useful. Wait a second... Did you just call me Kean?"

"Uhh... maybe?"

"This is the first time you've ever called me by my nickname! We're making progress."

"Actually no, I called you Kean last night, when I was apologizing about the rumor thing."

"Oh? You did? I didn't notice."

"Yeah well honestly, I don't really like Kean. I think I'll call you... KC. Like K.C. Undercover! It works great!"

"Ugh, that sounds quite awful actually."

"Oh, well. Deal with it."

He sighed, then laughed. "So when are we gonna start the truth or dare thing?"

"Tonight. Probably like 9."

"Okay cool. Well now that I have you here, I have a proposition for you. Everyday we each come to each other with a deep topic, or just something interesting to talk about."

"Why?"

"Well for one, so I can get to know you better and two last night was actually fun. I really enjoyed it, so we should to it again."

"Okay... sure."

"And since we're gonna be busy tonight I have a topic."

"Alright KC what's the topic?"

He chuckled before continuing. "Oh, you're gonna hate me for this. Well.. since I told you something that no one knows about me, how about you tell me something no one knows about you? Please don't block me."

"No, that's fair. You did tell me something really big." I paused for a little bit, thinking about what to tell him. I don't have many big secrets but there is one...

"This isn't really 'big', it's kinda stupid actually, but my name isn't Cara..."

"It's not?"

"No, Cara is a nickname. My full name is Caralily..."

"Caralily?"

"Yes, Caralily. And before you laugh or ask my why it's a big deal, I just want you to know that I hate that name."

"Why, because you think it's ugly or something? I mean it's really not bu-"

"It's not cause I think it's ugly I- It's cause... I just can't tell you why right now. I just don't fully trust you, I'm sorry."

"It's okay. I'm sorry for bringing it up... if you wanna talk about it I'm here okay Cara?"

"Yeah, uhm, okay thanks."

"So do you-" He started to say something else, but I cut him off.

"I have to go, sorry, bye."

I quickly hung up the phone and let the tears fall down my face. Why'd I have to go and make myself cry?
