chapter 15
“What do you mean normal isn't happening anytime soon?” Bianna asked a puzzled look on her face, looking at the others for any sign that they knew what Keefe was talking about.
Keefe started to open his mouth to say something but shut it and a pensive look came over his face. “I've already said more than I should, but there have been rumours of another rebellion forming.”
“WHAT?” Came a collective sound from everyone.
“Like I said, I've already said too much but life in the Lost Cities is going to get a little more complicated.” Keefe said his gaze shifting to Fitz and Sophie. “You sure you want to come back now, I mean what with your. . .”
“Yes,” Sophie interrupted him. “We need to be back home as soon as possible.” Fitz gave her a confused look. They had only started talking about moving back last night, why was Sophie so insistent that they move back now.
“Who is the rebellion coming from?” Linh asked softly leaning into Wylie and bracing for what was about to come out next.
Keefe sighed.
How was he going to tell his friends that the new rebellion was going to hit a little too close to home this time. Before fighting the Neverseen had been about making the council look weak and how to deal with humans. Now with the issues with humans were being addressed and very effective as Sophie and Fitz could personally attest. Their work had been invaluable to the humans, even if they didn't know it. No this rebellion was different. It had the potential to turn their whole world upside down.
“It's a long story and I need to be getting back to Eternalia before my absence is a cause for concern. Why don't we head back and tonight you are all invited for dinner, we can meet at my place to talk. And steer clear of the Gulon statue in the front, well unless you want to get wet.” Keefe answered with a smirk. The weight of his words about a rebellion forming still hung heavy on the group.
“I hate to say it but Keefe is right, I should be getting back to Slurps and Burps.” Dex said pulling out his Pathfinder and setting the facet to Mysterium. “I’ll let you know if I am able to make it tonight.” As a beam of light pulled Dex away.
“We might as well use the time to find a place to move back to, and to stop and visit my parents,” Fitz said while looking at Sophie.
“Thank you Linh for bringing us here, I'm glad we all got to see each other again.” Sophie said as she made her way over to give her a hug. “I hope we can make this a regular thing now. Maybe a standing ladies lunch date if you and Biana are up for it. I’ve missed you guys so much.”
“Oh please that would be so awesome, I know all the best restaurants and cafes.” Biana joined in, she had missed spending time with the girls and it would be fun to have someone to gush about her budding relationship with.
“That would be wonderful! I can't wait to hear all about your adventures and to get the scoop on Biana's social life,” Linh answered with a glance at Biana.
Biana and Tam both turned a familiar shade of pink and quickly made eye contact before turning from pink to red.
The reunited friends all said their goodbyes and pulled out their Pathfinders ready to leap to various parts of the lost cities, giving the cave one last look, not sure when or if they would ever need to come visit the cave again but knowing that whatever Keefe decided to tell them that night it would have an impact on their futures.
Author note
I feel like this story is at an end point with the purple crystal and am contemplating writing a sequel with more on the new rebellion, the Tam/Biana storyline, Fitz and Sophie back in the Lost cities and Dex's family. Any thoughts?
